Bought this for my mom, she loves sea foods but can be allergic to some. Now that she needs glucosamine that works for her body, instead of giving her itchy effect. She's a happy loyal customer.

I have been taking glucosamine for years because of my knees. I was not sure the vegetarian version would work as well, but it has, because I have been taking it for two months and I have had no problems with my knees. Source Naturals also seems to be the most reasonable brand available. Other brands seem to be twice to three times the cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally - glucosamine for vegetarians!, July 12, 2007

When my regular supplement vendor stopped carrying Vegetarian Glucosamine, I was pretty upset. It DOES make a difference in pain, but as a strict vegetarian, I'd have to give up the glucosamine if I couldn't find an affordable alternative.

So far, the Source Naturals has kept my pain level as low as my former brand did, and I have noticed no side effects.

If you're a vegetarian who's passed over glucosamine, please note that there ARE vegetarian formulas that exist.

I very much appreciate the Source Naturals Vegetarian choice for glucosamine. I have taken glucosamine for years for joint support. As the research and product development has progressed, the supplement choices include "cleaner" options. First, research has shown that glucosamine alone is just as effective as glucosamine with chondroitin. That eliminated any need for an animal component (originally "shark cartilage", then bovine cartilage) except for the gelatin capsule. Now a total vegetarian formula is available in an economical size.

5.0 out of 5 stars vegetarian glucosamine on the cheap!!, March 31, 2010

My wife has been having serious problems with her knees for several years now. Her doctor informed her that her two options were taking Glucosamine or Surgery.
Being a Vegetarian, she had serious reservations about using a suppliment derived from several kinds of shellfish and it was relatively expensive. Her Pharmacist (usually particularly knowledgeable and helpful individual) iformed her that there was no way to get glucosamine other than shellfish.
I then did some research and found that there is indeed source that didn't harm defenseless sea creatures (derived from fermented corn), checked amazon and low and behold there it be at about half the price the non-vegetarian stuff in our local pharmacy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vegetgarian Glucosamine HCl, February 4, 2009
Most glucosamine is available as a sulfate. Some people are allergic. This product is the hydrochloride salt of glucosamine, thus is beneficial to such patients.
