5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Tool!
I was able to get a really good deal on this and the single serve tea tool. This enables me to make french-press like coffee on the road - all I need is my own ground coffee (the carrying case even has a compartment to carry it with me.) and boiling water. It takes a bit to get used to drinking hot coffee and tea through a straw, but it's better for your teeth.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great concept but poor design!
I ordered 2 wands... they work great but they did not last very long. The fragile glass straws are very long and extend past the cup edge about 4" and are awkward to drink from. The first one broke when my cup was sitting on the kitchen counter and my daughters sleeve got caught on the protruding straw and knocked it to the ground! The second one broke while doing dishes...

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool way to Drink your Coffee, October 26, 2008

I was originally looking for a single serve coffee maker. After reading the reviews of the top sellers, although mostly good, I couldn't help to think of the hassle if I were one of the few who got the leaky malfunctioning machine.

I'm so glad to have come across the Java Wand. At first glance it looks to be a novelty. But there couldn't be a more simple way to make a good cup of coffee. I find drinking our of the straw fun and it really does spare your teeth. I was worried about how I was going to sip a hot cup of coffee through a straw. I don't know if the glass tempers the coffee or what, but so far so good. And less cleanup than a coffee maker.

The second one broke while doing dishes. I was a bit disappointed since they did work so my husband took the little filter off the bottom and went to the hardware store to look for a replacement straw. He came back with an aluminum tube version and a clear flexible acrylic tube version. My favorite is the clear tube and think that this should have been how they designed it in the first place. It is flexible, light weight and can be cut to any length!

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever - but looks a little too much like a crack pipe, March 23, 2009

I ordered 2 of these - one for me and one for my father in law. I thought it might be handy for the office and/or camping or just on the road. The filter does work really well, and the straw pulls out so you can wash everything easily. You must keep the case it comes in for it to be portable as the straw is made of glass. Plus the case has a little compartment on one end to store coffee grounds or tea leaves on-the-go. Drinking coffee/tea through a straw is better for your teeth - and since I am whitening right now (and not supposed to be drinking coffee as it is) it's a must for me. Drinking a hot beverage isn't too bad through the straw unless it's searing hot. You get used to it. I use mine mostly for tea at the office. One of my workers pointed out that it looks a bit like a crack pipe - yes that was nice of him. Now, I don't have much experience with crack pipes myself but from what I've seen on Law and Order SVU or CSI or whatever it is, I'm probably going to agree with him. Ever since then I've been a little self conscious about using it at work - and then going to rinse it off in the kitchen. Oh what people must think! But if the thought of drinking through a crack pipe in public doesn't bother you and you'd like on-the-go convenience for your favorite coffee and tea - this is a great little product.

Finally I can make my favorite coffee outside my home effortlessly. It's perfect to use in in my travel mug. I recently used it while traveling on a plane, then in my hotel and to my office.(Everyone in my office wants one!) Love the ergonomic design so I don't have tilt my travel mug and risk staining my clothes. Also love . . . No more teeth stains for me! I bought one for everyone in my family so we can all have make our coffee the way we like. Great for the environment, I'm giving my coffee maker away. No more filters, electricity and wasted coffee. I also tried the Health Tea Wand for tea and it works great!
