5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy! But remember...
A great buy from Amazon! Even after shipping costs I saved nearly $300 over B*st B*y and Circ*it C*ty. I can't believe this unit shipped so fast and in perfect condition to Florida. Ordered late on 25 April and received the unit on 30 April from Fed Ex (estimated delivery date was 29 April - 4 May.) Fed Ex delivery person helped me bring it into my house, which is unusual...

A great buy from Amazon! Even after shipping costs I saved nearly $300 over B*st B*y and Circ*it C*ty. I can't believe this unit shipped so fast and in perfect condition to Florida. Ordered late on 25 April and received the unit on 30 April from Fed Ex (estimated delivery date was 29 April - 4 May.) Fed Ex delivery person helped me bring it into my house, which is unusual for curbside shipping. He also told me he could have delivered the TV on 27 April but that was before the shipping date so he held onto it. No sweat though, it was still ahead of schedule.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the TV. One word of advice - don't buy HDMI hi-def cables from a retail vendor or you'll pay 5-6 times more than you need to, like $50 for a 6 ft cable which is ridiculous. It's a digital cable, so the signal is there or it isn't. There's no advantage to buying M*nster C*bles or another overpriced brand. I picked up 12 ft cables from a reputable online vendor for $10 each.

Remember this unit doesn't ship with a TV stand. I have it resting on two end tables until I make my own stand for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice TV but..., July 25, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 65HM167 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
I purchased this TV on May 21. I felt like I got a smoking deal since I got free shipping and paid no sales tax but shipping took quite a bit longer than Amazon estimated due to the fact that once Eagle trucking received it, they made me wait an extra week for them to bring it to my house. Small problem considering the shipping was free. I was very impressed with the picture quality and features for the price. That is until the lamp unit failed last week after only two months of normal use. The TV suddenly began having problems turning on. The LED lights on the front indicated a lamp problem. I called Toshiba and they offered to mail me a replacement lamp unit without question (lamp warranty is one year and they are user replaceable). They said it would take five business days but I actually got it today after only three business days. I installed the lamp and the TV now works perfectly again. My only hope is that this does not repeat itself in another two months. Depending on who you believe, these lamps are supposed to last anywhere between 3,000 and 8,000 hours but a quick Internet search told me that Toshiba has had a continuing problem with their lamps failing prematurely. I recommend this TV if you can get a good deal on it but I wish I'd purchased the extended warranty.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the price it can't be beat (right now), September 29, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 65HM167 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
I got the TV very quickly from Eagle, they came in, unboxed it for me and let me turn it on before they left. Very professional. I ordered it on a Wednesday and it got to me by the next Tuesday morning in Texas.

I have to say though, that the TV might be a bit too big. If you're thinking bigger is better, you should at least have 9 ft viewing distance (like I have now). Honestly, I think it looks best sitting about 12-14 ft away. Standard Def looks really bad on it at my current 9ft viewing distance. But HD looks GREAT at 9ft.

I was a little disappointed that the VGA input didn't take 1080p. I was hoping to use a VGA cable with my Xbox 360 to get 1080p, but that does not work with this set.

Also, it seems like there might be a slight defect in the upper right hand corner of the screen. It bows in slightly giving that corner a rounded edge instead of a straight edge like the other 3 corners. I'm not sure if this is a defect with my TV alone or all with this model.

Overall I haven't found a better deal at this size and 1080p for $1600. That's pretty amazing. I've only had the TV for 5 days now, but it's great. Finding a stand for it was a bit of a pain, but BEST BUY sold a stand for this model that is a nice 22" high and looks like it was suppose to go with the TV.

The speakers inside the TV also put out a nice sound quality.

Overall, I'd say if you want BIG and 1080p for a great price, go for this TV. But have at LEAST 9ft of viewing distance for HD to look good, and at least 12ft for Standard Def to look decent (as good as standard can look).

Also, the dimensions of this TV say it goes back 22" deep, but the footprint is actually more like 19" deep, so when you're trying to find a stand keep that in mind.

Oh, one more plus about the TV is the viewing angle. I stood in Circuit City to look at this model before buying from AMAZON and I have to say compared to the SONY, SAMSUNG and MITSUBISHI models this one had the best side viewing angle. It didn't darken like the other DLP models did when standing from the side (at least not nearly as much).

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultra Excellent!!!!, June 14, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 65HM167 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
This is by far, the best 1080P TV purchase I could have made. I am a Toshiba fan from way back and I must say this 65 inch rear projection Talen HDTV is the best!!! I had an issue with the sun bleaching out my old 55 inch Toshiba Theater Veiw Tv but, with this new HDTV black screen I don't have the wash out issue. This TV has it all! You can't ask for a better center peice for your home at a fantastic price. I won't bother you with any tech jargon, just know that Toshiba has all the bases covered!! I purchased a Toshiba HDTV 1080P DVD player and a wonderful Onkyo Stereo that has the 1080P up-conversion with all the HDMI connections you could ask for and now I have a rockin THEATER in my living room because the Talen 65" 1080P. Oh! It has the best clear picture an it makes you feel like you are right there. I am a happy camper indeed!!!

I would also like to say that the company I purchased the TV from was the best an Amazon and that company deserve the best rating possible!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Lamp Problem, October 7, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 65HM167 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
If it weren't for the lamp problems I would have rated this product 5 stars!!

A week after getting thhis tv home and using it it suddenly stopped working. I called Toshiba and the lady talked me through their quick fix which entailed me removing the lamp housing door and removing the lamp houseing at which point she directed me to tap on all sides of the housing. Not the glass side.

Ok, did that and it still didn't work at which point she regsitered my tv and set me up to have a replacement lamp sent out. This was in the morning on a Friday. After I was done with her and several hours later I gave it one last shot...took the housing out and tapped on it again. It then worked fine.

I called and cancelled the replacement lamp.

So here we are a month or so later and I have the same problems again. It would start up one morning but let it go into its eight start cycle and it came back to life.

Just this past Thursday it did its trick again, I tried the fix....no luck. So once again I called Toshiba and again they set me up for a replacement lamp. Once again later in the day it came back. I did not stop the order for the replacement lamp this time. It worked fine all day Friday and Saturday morning.

Saturday evening it was tempermental once again but came on during its mandted 8 attemps.

This morning, Sunday it decided nothing was going to make it come on.

Hopefully the new lamp will be here tomorrow. I don't mind the prospect of replacing the lamp every 4,000 or so hours or even maybe twice a year but I don't think this much time should be spent after just a couple of months to get it to work correctly.

Like I said, these lamp probelms aside, the tv is absolutely beautiful and for me 65" is just the right size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, December 1, 2007
This review is from: Toshiba TALEN 65HM167 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV - EOL August 2007 (Electronics)
I was nervous at first ordering such a huge item, but I have been wanting one of these for a very long time. Over the years I have grown sick and tired of playing video games and watches movies on less than great TVs and decided to do some research and get a big one.

This product is simply amazing. My video games have never looked so rediculously good. I was playing Halo 3 with a friend today and each half of the screen was so huge and crystal clear that it felt like we had our own tv, as if we weren't playing split screen at all. And then I went to single player and this game looks unreal on 1080p. "Holy crap" is the only legitamate description and it's not enough to literate the true grandness of image quality. This thing even makes Playstation 2 and Gamecube games look amazing.

I have my PS3 and 360 connected with HDMI, the Wii and Bose DVD system are on Component and they all look fantastic. Do not be afraid to buy this thing.

Shipping was great. If you buy this thing from 6th avenue, they offer free shipping, which is unheard of for someting so big. I checked another site and they were asking $[...]. Go with amazon and 6th avenue here.

The stand that comes with it is perfect. It looks great, like an extension of the TV and holds all my peripherals nicely with no issue. Plenty of cable room. If you buy this TV you have to buy the official stand or you're shooting yourself in the foot.

Other thoughts: I am sitting about 6 to 8 feet away from the TV. The alleged optimal viewing distance is like 10 feet or something, but that's all nonsense. Sit where you want. The optimal viewing angle for the thing is about 45 degrees. After that it started looking distorted, but I don't know anyone who wants to sit that far off center. You can layout your seating, spreading it out wider and wider as you get away from this thing. So far I have one couch and plan on moving to a different apartment so I can add a few more couches and chairs, each on their own risers to get the real home theatre experience going on.

I brought my friend Wily over today and whooped his butt in some Wii Tennis. The expletives and amazement on the size and quality of this thing never ended. I'm still awestruck. Take the hit to your bank account, go out and get this thing. Screw the Mitsubishi models, they have problems with a loud buzzing noise. Get this thing and get it today. You will not be dissapointed. Your friends and family will love it. Stop debating, start buying.

(Oh and the built in speakers are great too, but I don't use them. I have bose home theater which is simply unreal in all aspects. I hope this review was helpful).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Value for the price!!!, December 8, 2007

I was in the market for a bigger screen TV than my current samsung 61in, which is agreat TV. I was considering either buying the Mits or going with a projector and screen. I decided to buy this Toshiba. In one word, "wow."

The PQ looks great in blu ray or HDTV. The sound is a little wanting, but thats why I have the onkyo with Klipsch Senergy Series speakers.

You can't beat this TV for the price.
