5.0 out of 5 stars Good looks and functionality
I have to confess that I did not buy this from Amazon, but rather from Costco. The model numbers are slightly different, but both have identical specifications. While I shop a lot at Amazon and have always been pleased with them, the Costco price was just too low to pass up!

But you probably want to know how the unit functions rather than where I bought it...

I have to confess that I did not buy this from Amazon, but rather from Costco. The model numbers are slightly different, but both have identical specifications. While I shop a lot at Amazon and have always been pleased with them, the Costco price was just too low to pass up!

But you probably want to know how the unit functions rather than where I bought it. In a word, it is a great microwave. I thought the Inverter Technology was just marketing hype, but it really does make a difference - food heats up more evenly, and defrosting is faster and easier. Unlike past microwaves I've owned, I don't have to stir foods midway through -- just press sensor reheat, and the Panny does all the work for you.

The control pad is easy to use, and the pop-out knob is a nice feature. I find knobs easier to use than a key pad, but hated having to clean them. This solves that problem - you have a knob to set time/weight, but it easily pops in so you can clean without any hard to reach crannies that trap dirt.

The unit looks very nice on the counter top. The top and sides are not, however, stainless. They are silver and look nice, but only the front has real stainless.

Lots of power (1300 watts) so food reheating is very quick. Has a rotating glass turntable. The inside is well designed both from a space standpoint as well as ease of cleaning. My only quibble is that the "done" chime is not very loud.

All in all, this is a very nice microwave, and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars All I can say is Wow!!, October 29, 2007

This is best microwave I have ever used!! I love how well it works so much, I specifically wanted to review it somewhere to sing its praises. Like other reviewers, I also thought the Inverter Technology would turn out to be marketing hype, but it really does make a difference. Food warms faster & more evenly and, the best feature, is that defrosting is one step. I am referring to the last microwave we had where it stopped 2-3 times during the defrost and wanted you to do things with the food, then start it again each time.

The control pad is easy to use and, although I was hesitant about the pop-out knob when I was choosing it, I have found it to be a very handy feature. I was comparing it to another Panasonic on the shelf that was bigger, which had buttons and, actually, slightly less wattage. Since we don't do large meals or multiple plates in the microwave, the smaller size combined with 1300 watts of power = food heating that is faster than the low estimate on the packaging. I believe, even if you do need to "nuke" multiple items, this microwave would be faster one-by-one than a bigger one would be with multiple items together.

The cons, although minor, are that the "done" chime is fairly quiet, the display isn't readable from my eye height (I'm 6'4" & have to stoop to read it) and, lastly, the Quick Min button doesn't automatically activate the cooking, as many of my previous microwaves did -- you have to hit Start afterwards. I mention them just to show that there is balance in the Universe ;)

The Cons are minor annoyances and the Pros far outweigh them. Even cooking, which has been tauted by microwave manufacturers since their inception, is finally here and I'd buy it again without hesitation.

Pro's:
- aesthetically pleasing stainless steel front (top & sides are silver colored plastic but blend well);
- noticably stronger (quicker heating) than our previous 1000 watt Sanyo oven;
- small dimensional footprint fits our shallow counter;
- knob to set the length of microwaving time is a little different than most other microwave ovens but it's easy to use.

Con's:
- temporarily kills our 80211.g wireless network (Airport Express is about 12 feet away) when microwaving food and shortly afterwards wifi resumes on its own;
- the digital display is a little difficult to read because of the angle when you're in front of it setting cooking time, etc. unless your line of sight is at the same height as the screen.
- minor: wish the touch pad lit up for late night forages in the kitchen without having to turn on the kitchen lights.

Overall, we're satisfied with the oven, even with the cons. We'll try relocating our WAP farther away.

1.0 out of 5 stars microwave nightmare, March 3, 2008
By nmf (RI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Panasonic NN-SD667S 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1300-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Purchased this microwave from Amazon about a month ago, paid full price $159.99. Used it about 10 times and received an error message H98. Basicly the microwave function died. Called Panasonic they told me to take it to a service center for repair. Rinfret's service center told me that they do not do warranty repairs for Panasonic because Panasonic does not pay. Called Panasonic again, now they want me to take it to another service center 45 minutes away. Wasting a lot of time on this $159.99 microwave that's just 35 days old.Panasonic NN-SD667S 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1300-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart, stylish, and speedy, November 18, 2007
By Juan Goldfarb (Alexandria, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Panasonic NN-SD667S 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1300-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This microwave works well, looks good, and heats quickly. I am impressed with the speed and accuracy of the sensor cook/reheat feature. It has heated all of the items I've tried it on to perfection. Because everyone has their own idea of perfection, you can also tell it to make things a little warmer or cooler. I'm pretty satisfied with the default. I can't say much about the time dial, since I've mostly used the sensor. The dial makes setting the clock simple enough, though.

I haven't tried the "Inverter" function yet, but if it works as well or as quickly as the sensor, I'm sure it'll be great.

As I looked for a microwave, I read tons of reviews from Consumer Reports to Amazon and everything in between. Unfortunately Consumer Reports' reviews were not very recent, and not many of the models were still available. More importantly, most of them were either blandly styled or hideous. Yes, I place some importance on the appearance of some things. But I also require that those things also work well. I am glad I took a chance on this model.

I agree with earlier reviewers that the screen is a little hard to see if it is not at eye level. I'm sure most toddlers would be able to see it quite well, but the rest of us will have to stoop a bit. I believe it's worth it.

A final note: I read a lot of reviews by very disgruntled people who had had terrible experiences with various models. I doubt there is a brand or model out there for which you could find no negative reviews. I'm going on the assumption that unhappy people are more likely to review products than those of us who aren't. However, those reviews did convince me to spend a little extra for an additional year of warranty...

1.0 out of 5 stars Great 90-day disposable microwave, September 23, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic NN-SD667S 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1300-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I didn't get mine from Amazon either, but I'd like my review to be available to Amazon customers anyhow.

Initial impression: great. The machine was exactly the right size and power for my needs. It worked quickly, simply and well, although a few of the bells and whistles were simply that -- you could get the same results by careful timing. It even looked good on my counter.

After exactly 89 days of daily use by a single person, it stopped cooking. The error message indicates that the microwaving mechanism has died, leaving me with an oversized and pricey kitchen timer. Panasonic service is a joke: basically, I am responsible for carrying the machine into a repair facility to see if it can be fixed. As a 70-year-old New York City woman, I cannot quite see myself lugging an estimated 50+ hunk of dead metal on the subway. Got the same response from the big-box store where I purchased it.

So I'm looking for a new microwave. One thing is sure: it won't be a Panasonic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great until it stopped working after 2 months!, May 6, 2008

Obviously Panasonic has problems with the model since I have read several similar reviews here and on other sites. The microwave worked fine for 2 months and without warning it stopped and gave me the H98 code. My only option is to take it to a repair shop 20+ miles from my house and go without until it is repaired. I think my best bet is to cut my losses buy a more reliable brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Few Quirks, October 23, 2007
This review is from: Panasonic NN-SD667S 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1300-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
For a countertop microwave, the display is impossible to read if you are not looking at it straight on. This means you will probably need to bend down to read the display.

Another quirk is that cooking time beyond 1 minute can only be adjusted in increments of 10 seconds. The "Quick Min" is not adjustable except by repeatedly pressing the "Quick Min" button to add 1 minute increments. This means you cannot use the knob to adjust the cooking time after pressing "Quick Min".

With the dark glass front, you will barely be able to see your food while cooking.

The Costco equivalent model is NN-SD697S. Like a previous reviewer said, only the front is stainless steel. The sides and top is just silver paint.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another unreliable Panasonic inverter model, October 16, 2008
This review is from: Panasonic NN-SD667S 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1300-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Mine died also...right after the warranty ran out. There is simply no excuse for this. Comments like: "These things happen" do not help our understanding. It is very attractive, worked okay, but died and the repair is more expensive than a replacement. I don't expect it to last ten years, but I also don't expect to spend one hundred dollars every year. These machines are not that complicated. There is a way to ensure quality control and consistency. They might make great audio equipment, but I would not buy a microwave from them until I read some reliable reports about their dependability.

I bought this at a local membership store. Lucky for me, because they have a very liberal return policy which is where it went right back to join the two other ones I saw sitting behind the counter when I took it back. This microwave looks great, is the right size and manged to heat up one container of peas before croaking. After that it would heat for somewhere between 30 seconds and 1 minute and then turn itself off. The top of it got VERY hot. It still has power (its not that the circuit is blowing) but it decided that my food is done enough.

I called Panasonic. They have a very annoying computer that you must speak too. After being transfered 3 times, waiting on hold then the system hung up on me. Called back, got a person who asked me for all kinds of info before informing me that I could take it in to be repaired since it was "still under warranty". I told him I would just take it back to the store and he tried to convince me they would not take it back since they do not have "store return policy". I pointed out the the store I bought it from does have a return policy. He was rude after I told him I was not willing to work with them to repair a product I had not owned for more than a day.
