Lack depth if mounted horizontaly
I installed these in the roll bar a 2009 Jeep wrangler with a stock head unit and Polk Audio DB6501 components in the front, and I have to say these sound very lacking in depth and somewhat tinny compared to the Polk Audio DB6501 components. Heck, these almost sound as bad as the stock speakers. I believe these are good speakers but I must be doing something wrong, I have...

Ive read some reviews saying they have no bass thats crazy! These little things got a lot of bass plus highs and mids! Maybe the past reviewers were not putting enogh power to them. Cant wait to hear how they sound in a month after a full break in period!!
Update Sep 29 09 Just had another pair installed in the back and all I have to say is WOW!! Like I said before I had Boston Acoustic 6/9 s95 in boxes and they just cannot hang with these! You can get away without a sub with these! Love em!

Polk DB651 Car Spakers, October 8, 2009
This review is from: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics)
I bought these to replace speakers in a Pontiac vibe. I am extremely please with my choice. I also replaced the factory radio because the CD was skipping and hooked these speakers up to a JVC replacement radio. Wow, what a difference. I read several reviews b4 I bought these and would agree with many people that these speakers sparkle with brilliant sound. The replacement was easier than I thought. It was an excellent choice and I would recommend it to anyone.

Perfect fit and perfect sound..., October 19, 2009
This review is from: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics)
I purchased a set of four DB651's to replace the factory speakers in my 2004 Nissan Sentra. My intention was to replace the entire factory sound system piece by piece, but once I installed these speakers I realized I didn't need to change out my head unit or add an amp. These speakers sound perfect with the factory HU. I can turn the HU up to maximum volume and the Polk can handle it with no distortion. When I first installed them, I had a raspy popping sound, but I realized the factory subwoofer was still connected. Since disconnecting the Sub the sound has been perfect! These speakers pick up the bass perfectly, so I decided not to add a sub at all. The sound isn't competition quality, but more than what I'll ever need. Perfect full-range speakers for the average listener. Purchasing these speakers saved me a lot of money on replacing the rest of my system. Thanks Polk!! You have a new fan!

Way Better Than I Had Hoped For!!, September 8, 2009
This review is from: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics)
Installed six of these speakers on my 23 ft Cobalt Boat. I had read the reviews and honestly believed that the speakers would be good . . . WOW, they were better than good . . . they are GREAT! Installed a mid priced Pioneer Ipod compatible system with it . . . expecting mediocre performance . . . STUNNED at how great this system sounds . . . Better than the 10 speaker BOSE system in my CTS . . . and this is a boat?? Sitting on the lake with the engine off, just relaxing and it felt like I was at Lincoln Center!
You can't go wrong with these speakers . . . and at this price??? MANY THANKS to all the previous reviewers for their comments, I decided to purchase on your recommendation and you were all RIGHT!

Improved sound in minivan, but little bass., January 4, 2010
This review is from: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics)
Got these and the 4" to replace the odyssey's speakers. the fronts already had infinity reference and these polks were a little better in the mids. the 4" were a huge improvement over the factory paper distortion machines.
after changing, there was really no bass to speak of in the minivan. we added a Basslink sub and wow, very nice combination. excellent musical sound, good with reggae and techno etc. fat strings sound great with this combination...but do not expect the Polks to deliver any of that thick sound in a odyssey, maybe if you have a few pairs they might have some punch.
very nice mids and highs and i'm happy.

Great replacements for stock speakers, November 24, 2009
This review is from: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics)
I love these speakers. I just replaced the front door speakers in my 2009 GMC Sierra with these.
These are great replacements for your stock speakers. I am running them off of the stock stereo and they sound perfect. Very loud and clear. Tight bass, and crisp highs. I can turn the volume to max and there is zero distortion. These are an awesome product.
The Crutchfield advisor said that didnt fit but I am a DIYer and figured I could make them work. The only reason they didnt fit is because the stock speakers were built into the door mount. I cut the stock speakers our of the mounts. Did some trimming to the mount and then the Polk's fit perfectly.
The stock mount was a formed plastic piece that the speakers were built in to. The mount snapped into the metal of the door and were held by a screw.
Awesome product.

Very good speakers and water resistant, January 5, 2008
This review is from: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics)
I had some very good speakers in my car years ago but they had paper cones and were destroyed by water. Polk was one of the few companies that offered a marine grade speaker for the car and based on Polk's audio history I went with it.
They sound great.
I would have only said "very good" until I removed a piece of wood that I had over the door port (a long story!). Once this speaker had room to breathe the sound is fantastic - very rich, open and detailed. The bass is amazing. It really shakes the car without distorting - and I don't have a subwoofer anymore.
I am a car stereo enthusiast without a budget so my "system" is a:
'96 Honda civic stock radio (Alpine, with cassette)
75 WPC mtx amp with .75f capacitor (picked up at electronics shop for $15)
These Polk speakers mounted in the front doors (regular position).
About 300lbs. of sound deadening material including roofing tar and shingles.
The sheer stupidity of putting the tar in my car is pointed out to me regularly by my wife and I have to agree - don't do this at home! However - it was dirt cheap and provides incredible bass response.
I used to have an 8" sub but these speakers go down so low that it would not make any sense to put it back. I have all 75w going to the Polks. I listen to stuff on the radio and prefer metal but the Polks make any radio mix sound very nice.

Great Speakers, March 15, 2010
This review is from: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics)
I bought a Ski Centurion Elite V 22' boat and wanted to upgrade the stereo system from the existing Alpine unit (which didn't have an i-pod port) and the older marine speakers. I installed this Sony Amp, along with the Sony CDXM60UI Marine Stereo and 6 Polk DB-651 speakers (4 in the boat & 2 on the tower). This combination has a clean crisp sound, even at a higher volume, with a nice bass. I'm so impressed with the Polk speakers. I didn't think 6.5" speakers could have such great sound in an open area. My installer was also impressed with how this system sounded. I would recommend it highly.

Polk quality at a bargain price, it is true., February 18, 2010
This review is from: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics)
I use to install car audio for a living and am well aware of the Polk quality so when the chance to own a pair of the DB651 for what I felt was a bargain price, I could not pass it up.
The surrounds of the rear speakers in the wife's Jeep Cherokee Sport finally ripped out and replacing them with the Polk was rather easy, very little effort was required in modifying the rear sound bar for fit, removing the sound bar took more effort.
Sound quality met my expectations and the wife is very happy with the looks, sound, and price. She is old school and only used the rear speakers and so far, handles the volume without any issues. The only problem is, the OEM sound bar in the rear is a poor enclosure so I need to modify that which will improve the overall sound.
