5.0 out of 5 stars great toy for the price
I bought this toy for my daugher's 2nd birthday and I have to admit it looks even better than online. The toy is durable and fun and has a good educational value for small kids. I got this toy for 18 dollars and for this price this toy works wonders. As for the connector, it DOES come with the toy. It's was hidden underneath the base and I don't know why so many people...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent but below my expectations
My mother bought this toy for my 4-year-old who has been playing with her V Smile and loving it since age 3. The games are fun but they are awfully easy for a child who has played V Smile or other gaming systems, and she beat them all the first time she played it. She played it twice then lost interest completely. My mother wound up buying my daughter a different globe...

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the money..., February 1, 2008

My twin 3-year-old daughters received this for Christmas and LOVE it! One daughter in particular plays with it ALL THE TIME, to the point where Dora is driving me batty! I was amazed at how quickly my daughter figured out how to move the joystick and play the various games (she loves Adventure Play the most), since she's had no exposure to video games previously.

About the adapter: no, it's not included in the box, but neither is it necessary to play with the globe. The globe can take batteries (4 AA), and in my experience I've found them to last a reasonable amount of time. I've changed the batteries once, even though my daughter plays with the globe almost daily.

Excellent toy, better than I imagined it would be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dora Globe, January 25, 2008

I love all V-tech items and since I have three daughters am more then appreciative they are buying into the Dora themed products. I love this globe, Dora goes around the world in search of things and the children help find the places on the globe. The only reason I did not give the toy all five stars is because I have only listened to it, not actually played it. I am a believer in learning toys and V-tech is one of the better brands.

I got this for my 4 yr old as a Christmas gift and she has liked it so far. The joystick is a little temperamental, but once she got the hang of it (she doesn't play any video games), she was fine. It's neat to watch her pick out the countries and find animals and play the games. I just wish there was More for her to do with the software that is installed on it. I'm a little worried that she'll get tired of it soon enough. But in the meantime, I'm enjoying watching her count and learn letter progressions of the alphabet and I'm surprised to find out that she knows more that I thought she did! I'm glad I bought it and I'm sure we'll wear it out eventually!

this was a gift for my 6 year old, she loved it when she opened it and played all the games. it kept her busy for about an hour or so, and then after that she lost interest. i would say around 3-5 is the best age for this toy. it is cute and fun and very enjoyable to watch as they learn about new adventeres and places that dora goes

My mother bought this toy for my 4-year-old who has been playing with her V Smile and loving it since age 3. The games are fun but they are awfully easy for a child who has played V Smile or other gaming systems, and she beat them all the first time she played it. She played it twice then lost interest completely. My mother wound up buying my daughter a different globe and donating this one to a woman's shelter where there might be some younger kids who will be able to enjoy it.

Frankly, I think there are better globes out there. I'd spend my money on one of them. I even think the V Tech Fly & Learn Globe might be better, and it's around the same price. I think for this globe, you're paying more for "Dora" than for the education.

I expected more educational with musical toy. It was my fault that I chose this one. This is more like computer game for a young kid. It should be fun though. I will not let my kid play with this.

3.0 out of 5 stars My kids weren't interested in this, January 13, 2009
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I bought the Dora globe for my 4-year-old because he wouldn't leave his older brothers LeapFrog globe alone. My purchase was based on price and the positive reviews I read. I thought it was a good buy. My kids are not interested in this- making it not such a good buy.

The good points:

The adaptor cords are attached to the toy. No lost or misplaced cords. The downside is that the lid to that compartment can easily be lost.

The toy is bright and colorful and offers differnt types of learning activities. There is enough of a variety to keep a child interested in the games.

The downside is that the graphics are nasty on my HD tv. They look distorted.

The obvious downside for me is that my kids were not interested in this toy at all. I would have been better off spending $[...] and getting another LeapFrog globe.

It also does pay to shop around for this toy. I was able to get it on clearance at a much lower price than the SRV.

I'm giving this a wishy-washy, three stars. It is a good toy. It just didn't appeal to my kids.

I won't bother going into too much detail but the controller is useless and the whole device is POORLY thought out. More than half the games require the controller to be centered for the command to register. Move left, let go. wait for Dora to stop talking move right... if the child makes a mistake she starts talking again and the child has to WAIT to make a move... NO CHILD in the age group that this is designed for has this level of patience... couple this with the fact that Dora and Boots get hung up on everything they get NEAR. Poor work I could make a better game when I was 15. I suppose if they did any testing they just figured anyone who buys this for their kid will plug it in and walk away and let the child deal with it on their own. I'm insulted at the level of poor design that is shown in this device. Add to all this the fact that this game looks like something from 1994. My best advice is don't pay a dime for this thing and return it if someone gives it to your child.... unless you wish to punish them with it.

I just purchased this Dora globe at Costco for $4.97! Amazon is really reasonable most of the time, but I was shocked to see how much they are trying to sell this for. It pays to shop around!
