4.0 out of 5 stars Better than ever
If you're already got last year's Scene It? Disney Super Game Pack you'll find a lot of repeat questions in this new game, but if not it's a lot of fun. If you're going to spend family time in front of the TV, laughing with each other as you try to answer these trivia questions sure beats just sitting there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good game but repetitive and not made well
We enjoy playing this as a family but have found that the questions repeat very quickly (after two plays). The game board is not cut and glued very well at all and that causes it not to lay flat and the game pieces to topple over and slide off. The questions and films have a very good range in the Disney catalog but are a little more focused on more recent releases...

If you're already got last year's Scene It? Disney Super Game Pack you'll find a lot of repeat questions in this new game, but if not it's a lot of fun. If you're going to spend family time in front of the TV, laughing with each other as you try to answer these trivia questions sure beats just sitting there.

Our family has the original Disney Scene It?, but we like this version a lot better. Compared to the old DVD, this package has more types of questions, more questions altogether (as it's spread out over two discs) and covers all the recent Disney films, all the way through Ratatouille. What we liked best about it, though, is that it includes Party Play. That gives you the option to skip the gameboard, have the trivia questions appear automatically one after the another and just sit back and try to out think each other. (Playing that way is unfair to younger kids, but with our 13-year-old we need all the help we can get.)

Another nice touch: the game tokens. They're antique brass versions of Ariel, Lightning McQueen, Nemo and Tinker Bell.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but Too Difficult for Younger Kids, September 8, 2008

I am the oldest of 8 and, being much older than some of my siblings, I get to play the fun "aunt" and have game nights where they come over to my apartment. The hardest thing is finding something that everyone that comes (ages 7-23) will like and be able to do.

I thought this game was the perfect answer. Unfortanetly I was dissapointed as it is too difficult for younger ages and some of the movies pre-date what very young kids might have seen.

How It's Played:
The DVD has a very clear video explanation of how to play, but the basic premise of the game is a board game with a DVD extra. You set up the board game, choose your game piece, and go through the options on the DVD. You roll two dice (one with the question category and one with the number of spaces you can move if you get the answer right.)
(As a note, with younger children I just let them roll the category die first, and then if they get it right they can roll the number die.)
The categories are "all play" "my play" "take three" "songs, slongans, and sayings" "mousellaneous", "buzz cards", and "player's choice."

(FYI Examples are from kids cards)

"Take Three" You get three clues and you must guess the answer within 10-30 seconds. (Ex. What heroic Dinsey character is helped by a dragon and a cricket, must become a soldier, and wants to bring honor to her family? Answer: Mulan)

"Songs, Slogans, and Sayings"
10-30 seconds to answer question. (Example: "Gaston" is a song about a brutsih villan of what Disney classic?" Answer: Beauty and the Beast.)

"Mouselanous"
Pretty much every question they could think of that did not fit other categories. (Example: What four children are from Finchley? Answer: Lucy, Edumnd, Peter and Susan Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.)

"Buzz Cards"
Pick up a card and in a cute Disney way it tells you to move forward or back. (Example: "The Mad Hatter and March Hare are hapy to discover that it's your un-birthday! Move ahead three spaces as younjoy a tea party celebration!)

"My Play"
A 30 second movie clip from a Disney movie plays and a question follows. The question may be triva (such as what movie is this scene from?) or just observation (such as "What did the cats knock over first in this scene?")

"All Play"
This is an all out everyone plays. It can be a variation of my play in which a 30 second clip plays and a question follows, a list of 5 clues (read aloud) are listed and a character must be guessed, a "what character was cut out of this scene", a "remember where the villan is hidden in a 9-square puzzle, or a few other options.

They are all randomized (and all pretty fun).

If the person who rolled wins they move forward their rolled amount. If another person wins they move forward one space.

The object of the game is to get to the winners circle first and win the "All Play to Win."

Pros:
*Classic & fun Disney clips our entertaining for all ages
*The board part of the game gives you the option of folding it out for long games or folding it in for a much shorter game
*The DVD is very well done, easy to use, and fun
*You have many customizable options (such as 10 seconds, 20 seconds, or 30 seconds to answer the questions.)

Cons:
*I expected this "updated" version to focus primarily on newer movies, but several of the questions and clips actually came from older movies (a few I didn't even know)
*The "adult" cards can be very difficult, even for the older players. Many of the questions aren't about movie content but who wrote a song in a particular movie or what was the name of someone who voiced a character in a movie. I didn't know these answers and neither did most of the older kids & adults who played.
*Younger children easily become distracted and bored with this game that I expected to be fun (and actually purchased with them in mind) for them. I play with younger kids on teams, but we still play shorter games or they get bored.

Verdict:
A fun game, I don't regret buying it. The 6+ age category is probably a stretch as I have found this game is much more fun with kids 9+... Younger kids can get bored or confused with the questions and probably require a partner. If you love Disney movies you will probably enjoy this game!

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for all ages, even non-Disney fans!, February 2, 2008

My brother got this game for me as a joke since I'm such a huge Disney buff. I coaxed a few of my friends (all ages 20 to 21) into playing with me, promising them it'd just be one game. Four hours and five games later (I'm serious!), we were yelling out answers for All Play and jumping up to find the hidden Mickey ears. My friends didn't know too much about Disney movies, but enough to beat me for most of the night and have fun while doing so. The game gives two colors of trivia cards - green for easy and magenta for hard - so by giving me the hard ones and everyone else the easy ones, the playing field was leveled.

I was disappointed, though, to find video repeats within the fourth game or so. The video clips have many different questions attached to it, but we were getting the same clip AND question. Not only that, but the clips seemed to be mostly (almost a third of the time) about Chicken Little! There were none of the classics I was hoping for, like Sleeping Beauty or Peter Pan.

These disappointments were very minor, though, during game play. We just skipped the repeats, too anxious to get to the next question. Overall, this is one of the best games I've seen and played; I suggest it to anyone, although having a little Disney love wouldn't hurt.

For older players:
I am a college student and a HUGE fan of Disney. My friends and I often play this game without the board as a drinking game with the dvd, playing all the questions like All-Plays. This improves the game in the sense that no one feels like the game has cheated them by asking them the only difficult question that has come up during the entire game. That's the problem with Disney Scene It. Most of the questions are easy, and when the one challenging question shows up it seems totally random.
The other problem is that, like other Scene It games, the questions following clips are often unrelated to the clips that accompany them.

That said, the game is fantastically fun for Disney fans. But good luck getting your Non-Disney fan friends to play it more than once.

This game is a definate must for anyone who's a Disney fan. There are times when our kids know more answers than we do, but there's some questions for those of us who remember the Mickey Mouse Club & Old Yeller. Everyone can participate & have fun. There's multiple ways to play the game (short & long version or party version) so time isn't an issue with this game. The directions seem a bit complicated at first but after your first game you'll become a pro. Good investment for family nights!
