Inspires you to use it!
This zafu cushion is both beautiful and comfortable! It makes me feel a bit like I'm being transported to a beautiful Asian country with the red satin-type fabric and embroidered golden and black dragonflies. The fabric is slippery enough that you can adjust your sitting position easily, but not so slippery that you feel like you will slide off. I do recommend that you...

Gave me pinched nerve
The buckwheat filling was very uncomfortable for me. I meditate for one hour a day (holosynch meditation) and after 30 minutes or so, I got a pinched nerve and my leg was totally asleep and I can barely feel it.
I did empty about 20% of the buckwheat to make it softer, but after 10 seconds of sitting on it, the cushion becomes too hard and does not give...

I do recommend that you spend the time necessary to adjust the buckwheat hull filling. I removed at least two full quart-sized snap-and-seal bags of hulls before the zafu was a comfortable fullness (or squishiness). The cushion expands in diameter and lowers in height as you remove the hulls. I preferred the zafu less full so that it resembled the consistency of beach sand that could be adjusted to the contours of my body. Of course, I am saving the hulls in case they later compact, and the zafu becomes too squishy.

Very comfortable!, September 11, 2008
I love this meditation cushion. What a tremendous difference between meditating on this versus a small sofa pillow (like I had been doing previously).
The first time I sat on it I doubled my meditation time. Its that good. I recommend this and get a firm dog bed to use as a Zubaton (base underneath it) that you can get for [...] or so.
You can remove more of the little husk seeds inside to make it softer which is great for adjusting it to your preference. I removed about the equivalent of half a box of cereal and now it conforms to my buttocks very nicely.
This is even nicer than the one at my Buddhist center so that should tell you alot about the high quality of this product. Worth every penny - Buy one!
Best of luck on your path to enlightenment!!
EDIT: 9 months later the cushion started to fall apart and the stitching began to tear. Therefore I would not buy this brand again.

Lovely, February 15, 2008
I'm very happy with this product....and especially pleased that the price was so reasonable, given what they go for in the stores. It seems comparable to others I looked at being sold for $65. Other customers have noted that it's a bit too full, but I found that I did not need to adjust the filling at all.

I love my zafu!, April 16, 2008
I just love meditating on this happy cushion of mine! I think it's filled to perfection (but you can adjust that if you want to) it's pretty AND it's half price others I looked at.

Functional beauty, March 19, 2008
I agree with the other reviewer about the price. At $33 and change with free SSaver shipping this is most reasonable. I have one from 10 years ago when you could only find them in specialty shops at $50 or more.
It is as pretty as pictured and is shipped (and warehoused I presume), shrinkwrapped so you know it has no dust or anything on it. It is so pretty it seems to call to you to come to meditation or just restful sitting. I found the cushiness and height just right. If it were very much lower and I wouldn't feel as comfortable in the hip and knee. Would make a great gift, it seems very luxurious for the price.
*note- it is advertised as "Natural" buckweat hulls, not organic though it may be that it is one and the same.

Comfortable and pretty, June 9, 2008
Comfortable and pretty pattern. Only give it four stars because not easy to remove the hulls to adjust firmness and the fabric is not washable.

Sweet, February 6, 2010
PROS: Sweet.
DETAILED REVIEW: Conforms to your bottom splendidly. Most likely you can take out some of the stuffing - they put a bit extra in so that it's adjustable, a good thing. Heavier than a pillow, so you don't want to carry this by hand for hours or whatever. Nice dragon brocade. Handle is flush so sometimes hard to find (I took the tag off), but that's okay. Half the price of what they want retail at the Yoga studio. I'd buy it again if I gave this one away or lost it.
CONS: This purchase alone will not result in enlightenment...

Gave me pinched nerve, September 23, 2009
The buckwheat filling was very uncomfortable for me. I meditate for one hour a day (holosynch meditation) and after 30 minutes or so, I got a pinched nerve and my leg was totally asleep and I can barely feel it.
I did empty about 20% of the buckwheat to make it softer, but after 10 seconds of sitting on it, the cushion becomes too hard and does not give. Being a thin male with little cushion on my own buttocks, I need something that gives more, and buckwheat filling is not it. I just ordered the Yogitoes mSeat Meditation Cushion since it is filled with foam. I will try that hopefully no pinched nerves there.

Awesome, June 3, 2009
When I first pulled it out of the box, I was shocked, due to its small size, and I did not think it would work. However, I was Amazed when I tried it out for the first time. It was perfect! It is firm, but comfortable and worth its weight in GOLD.

No more tingles, February 9, 2008
I've used several different Zafu cushions and this one is the best. Very soft and no more problems with my leg falling asleep.
