5.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea!
So glad I stumbled on to this. For someone just starting out and not knowing the proper weight to buy this solves your problem. Also, as you get stronger you can add weight without having to drop a bunch of money. Yes, you have to buy the weights to add, but it's still cheaper than buying a whole new kettlebell.
Great workout - especially for Tabata routines...

2.0 out of 5 stars wish I could say more good about it.
I know this item is made by a small company so I was reluctant to post a negative review. However, I'm doing so to be fair to other people who want to order.

I know this item is made by a small company so I was reluctant to post a negative review. However, I'm doing so to be fair to other people who want to order.

What you get for your 57 bucks is: a plastic handle on a metal strip, 2 bolts, an axle the bolts screw into, an allen wrench to screw the bolts, one page of instructions, and a brochure extolling kettlebells. Oh, and two washers. The hardware looks kind of grubby, like it was made in a back alley in some 3rd world country, and has an unpleasant-smelling lubrication on it. It is not something you will want to let out of the garage.

So why is it 57 bucks? I guess because kettlebells are "hot" right now so everything about them is overpriced. If you saw this little kit in a store, you might be willing to pay 25 bucks for it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good compromise of price and performance, July 3, 2009

I've had this product for over 3 years and finally ordered another one.

Pros:
Sturdy construction
Simple design
Customizable

Cons:
Overpriced for what you get
Swapping out weights isn't easy

I just purchased a second one of these due to the difficulty of swapping out the weights. I purchased again because I can change out the weights and I don't think buying standard kettle bells for varying weights is a sensible solution.

If this were offered at $30 it would be a great buy, which is why I can only offer 3 stars.

Great workout - especially for Tabata routines. Very similar to Olympic lifting without needing space for the bar. Highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sold on Kettlestacks ! (find out why they're the best deal out there), June 8, 2008
This review is from: Kettlestack Adjustable Kettlebell Handle Weight Not Included ! (Misc.)
I had never worked out with a kettlebell so I knew I wanted an adjustable model to figure out what weight would be best for me. The other adjustable-style Kettlebell on the market cost $149.99 (plus $72.87 shipping). That's $222.86 for one bell! No thanks. For ¼ that price I found kettlestack. Understandably, there are no weights included. I was able to find a 100 lbs weight set at my local sporting goods on sale for $50 off and the store's website had a discount coupon for 10% off.

Within minutes of working with my newly assembled 35 lb. Base kettlestack I ordered another one. The solid quality was instantly felt. I have now two complete kettlebells from Kettlestack at a fraction of the price I would have paid anywhere else, and the money saved I put it toward a kettlebell instructional DVD.

I am glad I didn't let one review on here hold me back from seeing this piece of fitness gear for myself. Although the reviewer was sincere in his comments, the two complaints were about 1.) "unpleasant-smelling" lubrication and 2.) the fact that kettlestack's parts are similar to hardware and therefore should be half the price it sells for.

One: I don't know who's out there looking for pleasant smelling lubrication. In my kettlestack kit there was a small amount on the washer and this grease is there so the bolt can be safely & adequately tightened. Once the washer is against the weight plate it's not something that will be smelled. Two: If you think it's just couple bucks worth of hardware, you're mistaken. Research their website you will find out that the support bands that hold the weight plates are made from a single piece of laser cut spring steel that is bent to track through the internal channel of the heavy duty ABS grip handle. Because of this design you cannot pull them out. On top of being incredibly strong, the high impact ABS polymer handle is the same material used in football helmets. Therefore, it is well worth paying approx $50 for quality materials that are assembled so well.

This is one of the NEATEST things I've seen in a long time. Load it up with your weights and get on with the work out.

That being said, I suppose that someone who works strictly with kettlebells would find it inconvenient to change the weight between sets.

I CrossFit and don't use kettlebells that often. When I have used kb, so far they haven't been the majority of my workout. If I had to do sets with different weights in one workout, I would probably load the handle with the heaviest weight and use some of my dumbbells for the lighter sets.

I am satisfied with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all..., December 6, 2009

Pretty nice product. I don't have a lot of experience with "regular" kettlebells, so it is tough to do a direct comparison, but this set up works pretty well so far. It does seem to have the feel of regular kettlebells. I haven't gotten to really heavy weights, so can't comment on how bulky it may get with bigger weight loads. The construction is solid, but I would agree with a previous review that it seems a bit expensive for what I would think it would cost to make. It does look like it will last a while. Buying or finding standard weights is not a problem, they are fairly cheap and can be found at yard sales, craigslist, ect. Overall, as it has allowed me to start and progress through 2 levels of weights, and the money I have spent on the handle and weights is still less than what I would have spent on buying a starter bell and then having to trade up.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% Functional !!!, March 25, 2008
This review is from: Kettlestack Adjustable Kettlebell Handle Weight Not Included ! (Misc.)
This fitness tool is 100% functional. For one price, I have the kettlebell functionality of several common kettlebell weight configurations. I started off with 35lbs, progressed to 40lbs, and now am at 45lbs. I'm following Pavel's ETB Program Minimum, and have reached 115 reps in 12 minutes, a far cry from what I started out with. I feel good with the kettlestacks in that I know I don't have to spend more money as I get stronger .... the kettlestack will meet all my needs up to 70lbs. If I had went with kettlebells from the start, by now I would have easily spent at least $240, and needed a place to store the extra equipment, and would be planning for my next purchase. No thanks! I don't see why anyone would go with a fixed weight other than novelty reasons. If you really need another KB, get another kettlestack!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good compromise, August 18, 2010

Maybe it's because I'm new to kettlebell training, but I find the Kettlestack sits a bit higher, or it is "longer" than a standard kettlebell. When holding it in certain positions, the length of it somewhat affects the balance,or feel of it as opposed to a standard kettlebell, making it less comfortable. Also, the metal strips on the side can beat up your wristbone pretty good. That being said, the versatility of it is worth the compromise. I already had a full set of weight plates at home, so the $60 investment is worth it. Maybe not as good as the "real thing", but you'll still get a great workout and save a LOT of money.

Very nice and sturdy product. It seems kind of weird when you first assemble the stack, but if you have a kettlebell handy you will see that it is very comparable. This compares favorably size and shapewise, as long as you have the proper weight plates. I don't reccommend using the big (high height to weight ratio) olympic plates. The olympic plates makes your stack kind of unwieldy. I would use the more compact and solid plates with the smaller center hole. With the compact weights your stack is smaller and more easily managed with the exercises.
