We originally purchased the Britax Marathon but sadly it was way to big to rear face in our compact car. After going back and for the between weather to buy the Priori or another smaller Britax we decided to go with the Priori because of it's fun colors and I guess just to try something new. Now I am pretty much wishing we had gone with the Britax.

We LOVE this car seat. We bought the infant seat and loved that one as well. This chair fits in United's small seats on flights, as well as our older Euro cars. We live in Europe and had a lot of seats to choose from, US and European. This seat is far and away the best buy and wonderful quality. Our son gets to see out the windows of the car, he is comfortable for our long flights back to the states. The padding on the seat is very comfortable. The one glitch is that it does not work with most carseat travel systems for getting through the airport. I often have to travel without my husband. So I bought a small travel folding luggage cart, like people use for other carry on luggage and strapped it on. That worked so well, when we landed after an 11 hour flight, my son was still asleep. I put the chair on the cart, secured the straps and wheeled him off the plane and through customs. Good thing as the stroller I gate checked did not arrive, yet again. We are now buying a second one for my husbands car, after looking again at all the options we could not be happier!

The Priori is nice and has the latch system which is wonderful but the safety harness twists easily, the crotch pad is tiny and just gets in the way, the buckle is not always easy to latch and getting the cover off to wash is a real pain... I pretty much had to take the whole darn thing apart.
On the upside it is a great size for compact cars, the color variety is fun and it has a cup holder to set the sippy cup in. All and all though I wish we had just gone with the smaller Britax (Roundabout or Diplomat).

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL CAR SEAT... BEST ON MARKET!, July 14, 2008
I absolutly love this car seat. My son seems very comfortable and I love how easily it reclines, as we take many a trip... and he falls asleep, we just recline it and his little head doesn't fall forward! I love the material, so soft and everything easily washes right off. Easy to buckle him in it and as for "Hard to install" I have 2 boys now who have gone through car seats (many) and I've never ever came across a car seat that wasn't "Hard to install!" They're all hard to get in that first time.. but this one was just fine, and very safe! I can't tell you how much i love it, and it looks so cute in our red truck! :P
I've gotten so many compliments on it and I sent in a picture in the photo section! All-in-all obviously I think it's a great buy and worth every penny!

2.0 out of 5 stars What Parents Need to Know BEFORE Purchase, February 22, 2010
We got this car seat to replace our Graco Safe Seat at our son's first birthday. Upon installation (yes, the instructions could be clearer, but an extra minute had everything in its place), I was instantly pleased because even rear-facing, it was three inches shorter than the Safe Seat, allowing us to reclaim some leg-room in front. It was also much more secure due to a better latch system, which was also makes installation and removal easier. My son was happy because it puts him higher and better able to see out, and overall, he seems comfortable.
Upon using it for a while, I discovered the issues. First, the seatbelt fabric is less rigid than our last car seat, enabling it to twist very easily.....and I mean VERY easily. Unfortunately, though it is not easy or quick to correct. Second, the release at the bottom is very stubborn. It is one button to release both sides but you have to press it on either edge of the button for both sides to actually come out, and pressing gently is not an option. It is only mildly annoying when your child is awake, but wrestling with it to release a sleeping baby will cause frustration.
Finally, if I pay $200 for a car seat, I expect it to be well constructed and last more than ten weeks. A few mornings ago, my son lost his breakfast in the car, so I had to wash the seat's cover. I will credit Maxi-Cosi with making a seat that is easier to take apart for washing than Graco, but my Graco seat did hold up to multiple washing, where after one wash, I now have a two inch hole in the Maxi-Cosi. The hole is on a seam, and upon examining the stitching, I am surprised that the whole cover did not unravel, as the stitches are huge and loose. Time now to learn how strong their customer service is.

UPDATE: I called customer service and they have no issues with a seat manufactured on 11/11/09 coming apart on 2/19/2010. They claim that you can only HAND WASH their product, and that does not mean the "Hand Wash Cycle." Yes, Donna Reed, they want you to hang over your bathtub and scrub the cover by hand and then leave it dripping for a day, because you really don't need your car seat, do you? I tried to explain that I would not have purchased a product that cannot be washed due to time constraints and the CSR's comment was "we advertise it in our instruction manual." Sorry, but I did not read it until (drum roll) I purchased the product. Now, to make this all better, they will ALLOW me to buy another seat cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars very happy with this purchase, April 3, 2009
By euro mama (portland, oregon) - See all my reviews
We bought the Maxi Cosi Cabrio for our first baby and we loved it, though our son outgrew it pretty fast. For our second baby, we decided to get the Priori because we wanted to keep him rear facing comfortably for as long as possible, and we also knew we'd need another forward-facing car seat (our first child is still using his). Here are the pros and cons:

PROS
1. Aesthetics. The colors choices are great and we loved the pumpkin. It looks sort of maroon in the pictures, but it's a cherry red with cantaloupe accents.
2. Fabric. The fabric is very durable and washes nicely. We also like the softness of the accent fabric. It's kind of suede-like, which is nice when our son falls asleep and rests his face against it.
3. Size. Fits perfectly in our Honda CR-V, rear-facing and forward-facing.
4. Comfort. Plush enough for long car rides. The recline options are great.
5. Easy to Install. I know other customers have complained about confusing instructions, but I didn't find them hard at all. It's pretty straight-forward and only took me about 10 minutes. I used the LATCH system, rear-facing.

CONS
1. Not Attachable to a Stroller. We have the Quinny Zapp that we used with our Cabrio, and with a sleeping infant, it is really great to be able to just attach the carseat to the stroller without having to transfer them. You can't do that with this one, obviously.
2. Price. I just have to say this about all car seats. I think it's such a racket how much we are charged for baby safety equipment. $200 for everything! Eek.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Car Seat...with only a few minor complaints, June 9, 2008
By A. West (Charleston, SC USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Maxi-Cosi Priori Convertible Car Seat, Gipsy (Baby Product)
I did A LOT of research before buying the Maxi Cosi Priori for our 11 month old son. His previous car seat was also a Maxi Cosi (Cabriofix) that we purchased from Europe mainly because of the safety factor of having the isofix system that it latched into, but also because of the convenience of how it popped out of the car and clicked into his Quinny Buzz stroller with no problem. We absolutely loved it!
As far as the Priori goes, we were considering it or the Britax Boulevard. The Priori is a little smaller than the B.B.(which we like for travel purposed in airports..as well as the fact that it was more likely to be compatible with rental cars in Europe when traveling abroad),and seemed to have more protective foam near where our child's head would be. We were also drawn to the reclining option that the Priori offers (although our son still sits in it in a rear-facing position so we can't take advantage of the reclining option until we turn him around).
The only complaints that I have are the difficulty of taking off the cover to wash (we had a diaper leak the first week that we had the car seat) and the buckle (you have to push really hard on the button to release the two metal buckles...definately not easy or something you could do with one hand like his Cabriofix was).

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted to like it..., February 21, 2009

2 friends recommended this car seat, so I really wanted to like it. I guess it is OK, but what I HATE about this seat is that the buckle is REALLY low and in my daughter's crotch. It is VERY difficult to buckle, and forget about putting a kid in a snow suit in there - I was not able to fasten the buckle. Plus, the button is really hard to push to release the belt and I thought my finger would break. It's OK, but try it out before you buy!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality: A Tale of Two Carseats, April 19, 2009
By Rebecca W. Clarke (Orem, UT) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I cajoled my husband into getting this carseat for my car (because let's face it, these carseats are adorable), after we got the cheap-o Evenflo for his. I rue the day. Not only are we out over $100 more than we spent on the other seat, this one is about done sizewise for us, the fabric is falling apart, and my husband was right--"It looks cute, but that's a lot to pay for cute."

The best thing about this carseat is the darling color, and the way it looks in your car for the first two months or so (if you can get away with not washing it before then). These carseats are just so cute. Other than that, though, there's not a lot to recommend them. In fact, there's a lot to NOT recommend about them. My husband, as I type this, is putting the thing back together after having washed it . . . a process that takes a smart human about 45 minutes. Not your typical Evenflo cheap-o slap it back together, but a brainteasing (yes, we read the directions, yes, we've done it before, and yes, we have the wherewithall to put together IKEA furniture no problem), tedious process. You'll read about that elsewhere from other consumers, as long as they've owned them long enough to have washed them.

On to things I didn't read about anywhere else before I bought this (because I thought maybe the people who were complaining about "difficult installation" were maybe just-not-as-smart-as-we-are). My biggest complaint is really about the quality. The plastic part is all fine/good. However, the lighter color fabric is loosely woven, and so our carseat is literally ripping apart at the seams. I wouldn't say we're hard on the carseat, and I wouldn't say we've washed it overly much, either (given what that process entails). Compared to the cheaper seat, which still looks brand new, this one looks trashed and has stuffing poking through. I contacted the company about this--including photos and cool evidence and all, and there was . . . no response.

Also, be aware that the design of the carseat adds about 4 inches' thickness (as compared to our less expensive Evenflo), and so my son's legs are pushed into the back of the passenger seat. I drive a Saab, and so likely this wouldn't be an issue in a larger car. But do be aware that some of the dimensions aren't super user friendly.

And the last consideration: I haven't reread the specs on this, but kids grow out of it fast. My son is 20 months old, and we're almost done with it (and will be replacing it with a less attractive, though CHEAPER and HIGHER QUALITY seat) and I seem to remember thinking that this would be our "long haul" seat. Honestly, this whole thing bugs. It bugs me that I didn't get what I paid for, and it bugs that this darling carseat is made so poorly. Maybe it bugs me the most that my husband in his practical frugality, was totally right, and I didn't listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great compact seat but beware of old manufacturing dates!, January 21, 2009
By mom of 2 (orlando, fl) - See all my reviews

After enojoying the design comfort and easy instalation of the Maxi Cosi Prori seat (Nigth Owl) in my car, I purchased a second for my husband's car. The seat is substantial yet sleek. It takes up less space in the back seat than Greco and Cosco seats we have had in the past.
My son falls to sleep easily and the belts go on with ease. The fabric on the belt covers does get water stained but can be wiped away with a damp cloth or the universal life saver - the baby wipe!
I was disappointed when I checked the manufacturing date of this seat I purchased from Amazon, it was made in 2007. Since car seats only have a 5 year life span for safety, I was hoping to use this seat until my baby grew to 40 pounds.
Often, the Navy Relection color is at a reduced price- $169.99 which may indicate an out of production color (last years style). However, our other Maxi Cosi Night Owl was also at a special price but was manufactured in late 2008- go figure!
Love the seat! Whish it was not manufactured almost 2 years ago!

This is the perfect seat for those of us who don't want our car looking like a daycare. It's especially stylish, in a European kind of way. My only complaint (and it's very small and minor) is the bottom buckle is somewhat difficult to snap. The pieces slide along the harness and are often underneath my daughter when I put her in the seat. Otherwise, I love it!
