Worked for four years, still under warranty
I bought this in early 2005, and it's worked fine until October 2008. It has a 1 year warranty for most parts, and a 5 year warranty for the sealed system. Fortunately (?), the compressor seized up, and that's part of the sealed system. The warranty repair took two trips (one to diagnose, and an all-day trip to replace the compressor), but it was covered...

Gladiator Freezerator
Purchased this Gladiator Freezerator three years ago. Three times the Freezerator has stopped working. Lost over $900.00 worth of food. Gladiator Freezerator, July 16, 2009
This review is from: Gladiator GarageWorks GAFZ21XXRK Freezerator Convertible Refrigerator/Freezer 21-Cubic-Feet (Tools & Hardware)
Purchased this Gladiator Freezerator three years ago. Three times the Freezerator has stopped working. Lost over $900.00 worth of food. The compressor was replaced twice. 30 days later it stopped working again. Another loss in seafood and meat. This is a very poor product. Purchased thru Sears. Had a warranty contract with Sears. When I called Gladiator Garageworks they said that Sears is NOT an authorized service providor for this Freezerator. There was nothing in the owners manual that stated that another service provider was to be contacted. We lost a tremendous amount of money for the Freezerator + all the food. Got rid of the Freezerator and purchased another freezer.

The refrigerator part can hold a flat of water bottles easily, but is just a little too shallow to hold 12-packs of Coke in the long dimension. The freezer freezes solidly -- what more could you ask? No frost issues at all. Wheels are optional.

This is a terrible freezer/refrigerator. After about 3 months had problems with it freezing everything in the refrigerator section even when set to the warmest posistion. Had techs out 3 times and could not stop this bad habit. The freezer door can open with the slightest bump and not close back tight. Thus causing everything to defrost. I have to remove blocks of ice from the bottom 2 to 3 times a year. NOT WORTH THE MONEY

Problems, Problems, & More Problems, October 19, 2009
This review is from: Gladiator GarageWorks GAFZ21XXRK Freezerator Convertible Refrigerator/Freezer 21-Cubic-Feet (Tools & Hardware)
I have had two of these Gladiators and have had problems with both. Sears finally gave up and replaced the first. The main problem is I live in South Texas and it is very hot and the humidity is very high. The top refrigerator/freezer has always had ice around the door, because it does not seal properly. I have never had any problems with the bottom freezer except one time I had to have the gasket replaced. I have had the top gasket replaced several times and every time it gets worse.
Good luck if you purchase this refrigerator/freezer if you live in a very hot location.

Florida Beach Garage, April 14, 2010

The unit is actually not totally convertible. The lower (larger) section can only be used as a freezer and the upper (smaller) can be used as a refrigerator or freezer. All of the cold air comes into the lower section first and the tempurature in the upper section is regulated by how much cold air you send there. It is not thermostatically controlled like you might think.

LEMON, August 12, 2010
This review is from: Gladiator GarageWorks GAFZ21XXRK Freezerator Convertible Refrigerator/Freezer 21-Cubic-Feet (Tools & Hardware)
We bought this item about 4 years ago. We've had to have it repaired SEVERAL times. It just quits freezing. The top portion, which is supposed to be a refrigerator often gets too cold & freezes & explodes my milk. We've had to place a padlock on the bottom portion b/c it's constantly coming open on it's own & we've lost tons of food. For some reason, ice builds up in the bottom of the freezer & several time a year i have to get a hammer & knock it all out.
I know that it looks cool & that the drink rack in the top portion of the appliance is awesome, but DO NOT buy this. You'll be throwing your money away.

Buying a 2nd One, July 21, 2010
This review is from: Gladiator GarageWorks GAFZ21XXRK Freezerator Convertible Refrigerator/Freezer 21-Cubic-Feet (Tools & Hardware)
I bought this unit 7 years ago and absolutely love it....no problems whatsoever. I live in Las Vegas, where it is very hot, and the unit is in my garage. I'm about to purchase a 2nd one for my cabin in Vermont (for the cellar). I usually don't review items, but this seems to have gotten a bad rap somehow, so I wanted to let people know that it's a great product. Love the textured front...goes perfectly in a garage.

Gladiator 21 Cu Ft GarageWorks Freezerator, February 6, 2010
This review is from: Gladiator GarageWorks GAFZ21XXRK Freezerator Convertible Refrigerator/Freezer 21-Cubic-Feet (Tools & Hardware)
This unit has gotten some undeserved bad reviews if my experiences with it are to be considered normal. Needs at least two people to manhandle the wheels into place. The energy consumption is approx 10% higher than comparable units (I found no comparable units).Quality construction. Neat look. When placed right, doors firmly close by gravity alone. Roll around simplicity and it does a great job at the lowest cooler settings in both compartments.

I have had this fridge since summer '09. The fridge and freezer have worked perfectly in summer and in winter. I love it but only gave it a four star rating because the price is high, plus I bought an extended warrenty because so many other people have had trouble with this unit.

We have had the freezer stop working twice and have had a tech out and he could not fix. Twice we have lost a fully filled supply of frozen foods. Once was on vacation and we lost everything. I will try one last time to see if they can fix. Beware
