5.0 out of 5 stars Bigger is better
This ball is the perfect size for me even though I'm shorter than the recommended height (I'm 5'4.5"). I also have the smaller purple ball, which the manufacturer claims is the proper size for someone my height, and it is much too small for me. If you are unsure about which size to get, I would recommend getting the next size up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than other 65cm balls
Well made item but it is much smaller than other 65cm exercise balls. It seems like different brands size them differently. I've returned this item and will buy the 75cm from another brand. (FYI - I'm 5'7", and this had my knees a bit higher than my thighs, so not good posture for exercise, though my use for this is for labor and later soothing baby).

The ball was easy to inflate with the hand pump... it took about 15 minutes. I have had the ball over a month now and it does hold air very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect ball for shorter people, April 24, 2008
I have used this ball a few times and I really like it. I used to have a larger ball from a different manufacturer. I didn't realize that balance balls came in different sizes and having one that's smaller (I'm 5'1") makes all the difference. I like the pump it came with. It's sturdy and easy to use. I could be wrong but I think it even has a safety feature that keeps you from over-inflating the ball. As I pumped the ball to full size I began to hear a leaking sound from the pump. I assume this was because the ball had reached it's capacity. The ball itself seems sturdy and after use I have not yet needed to re-inflate it. The CDs that come with the ball are pretty good. I was skeptical that the band used for the exercises would really do anything but it provides a great deal of resistance and I got a great workout. I wouldn't depend on using the included CDs for too long because they are short and I can see myself becoming bored quickly. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the money..., January 18, 2009
The Product:
Gaiam Total Body Balance Ball Kitt (small, purple), with bonus video and exercise band (latex).

I just bought this kit today, so I cannot remark on the quality of the ball exercises. I'm 5'3" and I too thought the ball was too small when I first inflated it.

INFLATING THE BALL

I did an online search regarding the ball sizing and was surprised how consistently most sites recommended the small (55cm) ball for my height. So then I googled "55 cm in inches" and saw that it should be almost 22 inches in diameter. When I measured my ball, it was only 16.5 inches in diameter! I had pumped it using the included hand pump until it was leaking air, which I thought meant it was at capacity. But then, I found out that new balls are usually very hard to fully inflate on the first try.

So, I went to work and got my first upper body work out--inflating the ball. It took me perhaps 20 minutes and several resting breaks to get the ball up to 20 inches in diameter (actually 20.7 inches in diameter based upon a measurement of the circumference). Now, when I sit on the ball, my knees are lower than my hips and my thighs slope downward. When I roll back on the ball, I can stretch my whole back and rest my head on the ball. I may keep it at 20.5 or so inches, which is very firm already.

DVD - Tanja Djelevic
I think the instructor is fine. It is too bad she has to talk during the work out since it seems to mess up her own concentration. My main gripe about this video is that the audio keeps cutting out for 2-3 minute spans at a time. I'm sure it is probably a fluke defect and I will contact Gaiam for a replacement.

Update: Replacement DVD is just fine.

Bonus DVD - Suzanne Deason
I liked the focus of this video much better and its AV quality was what you'd expect. The instructor uses a voice over so that when she demonstrates, she is fully concentrating and not talking. But it is a "sample" or "taster" of 3 other full length videos. Although it does have short "workouts," I think it is more designed as a selling tool for these other 3 full length videos.

LATEX EXERCISE BAND

It's a latex exercise band -- Gray. I'm latex sensitive and the packaging doesn't say anything about latex, but then, running shoes don't come with any warning either. But if you're sensitive, be warned... It comes in its own polyethylene baggie, so just don't open it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Product, January 15, 2009

I've used other balance balls in the past, but this so far has been my favorite. very comfortable and durable. The hand pump isn't difficult to use at all. I love that this kit comes with a resistance strap and a DVD. The instructor, Tanja Djelevic, is delightful. Her voice is so soothing, I could listen to her for hours. She wonderfully optimistic and upbeat, without being annoying and fake perky like some other work out instructors voices that come to mind.
The activies on the DVDs are challenging but not impossible for even a beginner like myself to do. Over all, this is a great product and I've recommended it to many of my friends and family. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

This has probably turned out to be the best purchase I made while pregnant. It's a little smaller than expected after seeing other balance balls in the gym and in childbirth classes, but it's the perfect height for me (I'm 5'5"). Its permanent home is in the family room. I sit on it when I watch TV, eat dinner, fold laundry, the list could go on. When I get bored, I just start using it to exercise without needing to get up or go somewhere else. I know I'll also get use out of it once baby arrives for soothing bouncing, strengthening my core and for the kids to play with. The thing I like best about it is it doesn't pick up carpet lint, dirt or pet fur from the floor as I expected it would. The surface stays clean. We'll always have a balance ball in our household now!

I bought it to use as a replacement computer chair so I could sit on it while I work. It was way too short. I ended up having to buy the 75cm size. I am 5'6" if that makes any difference.

I received my item today and checked it all out. I inflated the ball, which was easier than I expected. The pump is of good quality so it's not hard to do, just follow the instructions. The ball had zero defects, contrary to what some other reviewers reported- I was a bit nervous about that. The resistance band is sturdy as well. Its taller than I am (I am 5'4'') and is nice and wide so it doesn't hurt to use. If you have an allergy to rubber or are highly sensitive to smells, you may want to avoid this product or air them out for a day or two. It's not strong smelling but it has an odor. I am excited to try out the dvds. I also go to prevention.com to look up free exercises. A thumbs up for this product- great value for what you get.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for my needs, October 25, 2008
This review is from: SAVE 20%: BalanceBall Set, 65 (65cm BalanceBall + 2 Workout DVD + Resistance Band + Air Pump) ~ GAIAM (Sports)
I actually bought this do use with another exercise DVD other than the ones it comes with and it does the job. It was easy to inflate and doesn't smell like I read on other reviews of other balls. I chose to order this one over others because for the price, it was worth getting the additional DVD's than just a ball.
