Terrific Product
I ordered this for a homeschool project because my boys were interested in gemstones, crystals and rocks. We had a blast excavating and now the boys carry the gems around in their pockets.
I'd recommend this over TV any day of the week. It's fun and a great learning tool.

Rock Excavation kit
It is ok for some entertaining time. Not too realistic when it comes to resemble a real excavation, should contain at least 2 more rocks and not tumbled but in their natural state. Can be improved if the manufacturer would add a sheet explaining the name and characteristics of the minerals inside. I give it a 5 out of a 10 scale.

The rocks/crystals were much larger than I expected and really beautiful. My 6-year old LOVED this...and so did I. I would give it 6 stars if I could!

I purchased this for my daughter who is almost six and she had a blast with it. She has always loved collecting rocks and gemstones and has quite a collection. Wonderful gift that will provide hours of fun digging up the gems. The only bad thing I can say about it is it would be nice if it contained a sheet so you could identify the gems. But it gives us another project to do looking them up on the internet and finding out what they are. Was recieved in two days and is exactly as described. Now she has beautiful stones to treasure and keep!

My granddaugter was very excited about this gift and persisted in locating and digging out the first 2 rocks. When I visited her the next time she still had not dug out the others and started thinking about how she could get to them without the work (leaving them out in the rain, etc.). I think if her mother or I would have given more encouragement she would have completed the task. It is a fascinating gift!

Even though this will only last a few hours, my daughter was really excited about finding the rocks in this kit. It is a little messy so just be aware of this. I tried another kit and the rocks were really small, this one was much better.

My eight year old boy loved this item. If your child likes to dig in the dirt or likes rocks, this is a good item to try for a special treat. Unfortunately once the dig is done, the rocks are exposed and it's all over. However, he gets to keep the rocks and crystals which are nice pieces and can provide some educational value if an adult takes an interest.
