3.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised
This grill brush is advertised as having brass bristles, but it does not. They are steel and will rust. It's probably more trouble for me to return in than it's worth.

I called Weber and they told me that but it took a long time on hold and even then they didn't seem too sure. Weber also recommended it not be used on porcelain grates as they didn't trust it. The product description should be changed and the photo to show silver (stainless) bristles. For those that need brass, look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Brush, December 16, 2008

Every time I wear one of these brushes out, I buy another one just like it. It really seems to clean my grill well, with bristles that don't rust and are the right stiffness. And I like the long wooden handle.

Weber 6422 18-Inch Grill Brush and Scraper

Our 10-year old Weber 6422 grill brush wore out and we replaced it with the same model. The current model has steel bristles, while the older model had brass bristles. Weber probably switched to steel to reduce their manufacturing costs (brass is more expensive), instead of staying with brass and simply raising the price to cover their costs.

In any case, steel should last longer than brass bristles. Brass is better on softer materials that could scratch, but for stainless steel (or steel) grill racks, steel bristles are better since they are stronger and stiffer than brass. The bristles do not appear to be stainless steel as asserted by other reviewers, since they are strongly attracted to magnets. Weber's web site doesn't claim the bristles are stainless.

The handle should be bent upward more, so you'd be less likely to bang your hand when brushing a grill rack that's still in the barbeque grill.

The 1/4" half-round scraper is the right size for Weber steel grill wire racks. The bristles are numerous, stiff, and plentiful, so they are effective in cleaning the top third or so of the grill rack wires. Competing brushes with fewer bristles or with the bristle bundles further apart can slip down between the grill wires, so they don't work as well.

This tool wouldn't be a good choice for scratch-prone surfaces. However, for the old-style BBQ grills (that use charcoal for fuel), this tool works well and is a good value.

1.0 out of 5 stars Picture looks like brass, but the bristles are steel, June 30, 2009
This review is from: Weber 6422 18-Inch Grill Brush and Scraper (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this brush because it looked like a brass brush in the picture and it was priced like a brass brush. Now I find on the official Weber site that this brush sells for $8. This item is a rip off. It says brush your enameled grill grates with this brush but that is a very bad idea.

Several of the previous reviews indicate this brush has brass bristles but the two they sent me have steel bristles. I have had two of these with brass bristles and thye were good brushes. But like a lot of other things these days they have cheapened the product but are selling the junk at high prices based on a previous product. They have left misleading reviews which discussed a previous product with brass bristles in place without comment. These sellers have the morals of Bernie Madoff although $26 won't make or break my retirement.

So it isn't what it appears to be and it's priced at 50% more than it ought to be. Avoid this item. If you want a steel brush get one for $8 at weber.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything it should be, July 25, 2008

This is my second time buying the identical brush -- we had the last one for several years. It has plenty of brass bristles for good scrubbing without scratching. I don't really use the metal blade scraper, so I can't say yes or no on that. The handle is very well made and sturdy, made of oak, and it's a great length for reaching all the way to the back, and for leverage on tough grill build-up. In another 7 years, I expect to be buying another.

This is a very well-made grill brush. I ordered it because of the Weber name (I have owned two Weber grills over the years), and because of the wood construction. Take it from me, if you sometimes grill over hot charcoal fires, stay away from the cheap plastic-handled brushes, even if they claim to be made from heat-resistant silicone or other such materials. When they melt (and they all will over a hot enough fire - my last one did as I was stoking up a hot fire on my Big Green Egg to sear steaks on), it creates a stinking mess all over the grill where you place your dinner.

The brass bristles are tough and do the job, and as of yet I have not noticed any falling out - a real danger if one were to get on a piece of meat and then swallowed. Nonetheless, I always quickly brush off the grill surface with an old straw whisk broom to clear the grilling surface of any stray bristles (VERY quickly over a hot fire!) just before I plop on the meat.

My only complaint (hence the 4 stars instead of 5) is what another reviewer noted. The stiff metal scraper at the end of the brush could definitely be bigger - especially to reach the sides of the grates on the cast iron grate I use on my Big Green Egg for steaks & chicken. But, this is not a show-stopper as it does an adequate job - it could just do a much better one if the scrapper was about 50% bigger.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it supposed to, July 15, 2010

What can I say... it's a grill brush. Nice heavy wooden handle, not plastic that can melt. Bristles packed very tightly. I generally replace these on a yearly basis, so it's not like I'm looking for any long term performance. Typical Weber quality. As for the rounded scraper not fitting on ceramic grates as others have pointed out... would not attempt to do so anyway as the ceramic finish can chip.

I have owned mine for over a year now. I use it about 5 times a week and you can hardly tell it's been used. I highly recommend this for all grillers.
