5.0 out of 5 stars Great Chinese handwritting tool for Intel Mac..., February 21, 2008
This review is from: Tooya Pro Graphics Tablet (Windows/Mac) (Electronics)
I purchased this mainly to replace the old PenPower tablet that I had used before for Chinese handwriting on my PPC Mac, which I found out later that the software wouldn't work on Intel Mac. Fortunately, this table, along with the updated Chinese handwriting software that can be downloaded from PenPower's website, has brought Chinese handwriting recognition to Intel Mac and it works very well. The catch here is that the new Chinese handwriting software only works with this tablet. Sure hope that Apple can license this software (which is no bigger than 30MB) and make it part of OS X... Having said all this, this is a great (and only) Chinese handwriting tool if you have an Intel Mac and want to input Chinese without having to learned various keyboard input methods.

4.0 out of 5 stars wide tablet, very sensitive, January 4, 2008

i had a Genius MousePen 8X6 wich worked just fine, and the size is more practical for general drawing. Tough the big size of tooya's tablet may come handy for special cases, when you have to draw and change from several tools, you'll need to strech your hand all over the tablet or have a usb mouse near for easy tool navegation. The advantage of tooya is the wide range of pressure sensibility, which works wonderfully with brushes and artistic tools like photoshop & others. Otherwise when you're drawing vectors, there's no effect of pressure on the line's width, at least there's no choice for using this feature in illustrator cs2 vectors (i dont know if it works in coreldraw) indeed, if you don't soften the pressure settings, when drawing vector lines, they could break at any weak point, so experiment with pressure settings. If You get to draw your inky sketches for any vector output, do it in a painted (rasterized) mode in Photoshop or similar, then vectorize it if you need to keep the inky feel. hope this helps

I have had my tablet for almost 6 months now. The Tooya replaced an Aiptek. The only reason I did not say this is an excellant product is because I had originally tried to use it on a Vista Home Premium PC. Not a good idea. Since that time I loaded it on an XP Media Edition and it works great. This is a superior product to the Aiptek with a lot more control over the line (I use this to draw)

2.0 out of 5 stars It's no Wacom, April 5, 2008

I purchased this because I needed a replacement for my Wacom tablet, which was starting to jump around randomly. Wacoms are way too expensive, so I figured I'd check out another brand. This tablet doesn't come close to a Wacom. If you're doing any kind of graphics work, then just put the money down on a Wacom. The movement and lines come out a lot cleaner, and the pressure sensitivity feels right. I did a side by side comparison, drawing a sphere or even squiggly lines and the Tooya's lines had a lot more jitter than the Wacom's. You have to really push down on the Tooya as well to reach the higher pressure levels, which just feels unnatural.

Even the pen stinks in comparison. First off, it requires a battery, so prepare to be changing that thing out. I returned the tablet before the battery ran out (had it for a day) so I don't know how long it will last. The pen feels terrible too. It's too thick, it feels like you're drawing with a highlighter, and there is no ergonomic grip. Overall, the whole package seems very cheap. The tablet itself feels thin and flimsy as well.

I wanted to like this tablet, and I was hoping it would be a good replacement for a Wacom. I'm kind of sick of Wacom having a monopoly on the graphics tablets industry and driving prices way up. This, however, is not that replacement. Even for the money, spend the extra 30 bucks and get a bamboo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the low price, July 8, 2008
This review is from: Tooya Pro Graphics Tablet (Windows/Mac) (Electronics)
For the size 10x6.25, you can't ask for more for the price. It will cost probably twice as much to purchase a wacom. For all purposes, tooya tablet is a great purchase. I like the stylus, it feels so comfortable. It is thicker than many other styluses. It has a real feel like those good ol fountain pens. If you work for Disney or Pixar, you might not need it. For the rest of us mortals, go for it by all means.

Tooya Pro is a graphics tablet, it doesn't come with a handwriting recognition software. If you want such software, buy it from another vendor.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, April 24, 2009

I read reviews of all similar products, and I choose this one. I was so excited as I waited for the shipment to arrive. But after a couple uses, my enthusiasm sank into disappointment.

The tablet is sensitive to varrying pressue, so that part is all right. But it has a major flaw. If you draw a quick line that leaves the surface and want to repeat this motion as several quick flicks, it creates new random lines in different directions. The tablet is obviously confused. It assumes that you are going to be drawing one continuous line, or that there will be a substantial amount of time between the end of one line and the start of another. this is ridiculous.

As an artist, I know that your drawing gets it's energy from your line quality. Several quick lines can be used for drawing hair, grass, motion lines etc. But the product was evidently created by engineers without this type of artistic flair. they are measured and calculated with their lines, so I bet they are clueless to this issue even existing.

So it depends on your uses. If you are going to do slow calculated lines, or at least never need to lift the pen off the tablet, this product should work for you fine. But if you are an artist planning on drawing with energy, then I strongly suggest you find a way to demo this thing before you spend your money on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good performance with very reasonable price., May 26, 2010
This review is from: Tooya Pro Graphics Tablet (Windows/Mac) (Electronics)
As an art school student, I have a lot of the projects and need to deal with drawing. I found Tooya Pro and wasn't sure the quality of this brand name. However, I gave it a try. Amazingly, this product works perfectly for all my projects. The drawing pad is very sensitive, and larger drawing area makes it so much easier for me to draw larger pictures, very practical usage. I love it so much. This tool fits the need of a student like me! It even works for my Macbook as well, it is such an incredible digital graphic tablet, with very reasonable price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly as represented, June 3, 2008
This review is from: Tooya Pro Graphics Tablet (Windows/Mac) (Electronics)
Purchased this product with the intention of downloading, per customer Frank Su's review, the Chinese handwriting recognition software from PenPower's website. Having installed the software but was unable to get the pen to 'write' on the tablet, nor find the purported Chinese software download, I spoke to PenPower. As this package is right now, all it is is a mouse. The Chinese software has to be purchased for about $30 (though I couldn't find the product on the website and the PenP person was no help), AND just simply writing in English, using the tablet, requires a software that has to be purchased. Without additional buys, this tablet right now does - nothing. Its function as a mouse is not smooth - wouldn't recommend for that purpose. There is a small test window for writing and I found the pen too wide, not ergonomic (as another reviewer wrote). Even though I set the sensitive to highest, you have to write very large for the tablet to recognize. As the other reviewer wrote, items are flimsy and poorly-made. Returning it right away!

I bought this tablet mainly for chinese writing input, yes, the chinese software has to be purchased separately. I found one in Ebay for less than $30. not bad.

the tablet is big to this first time user. Since I use it mainly for Chinese input, I wish they had a Mac version from the smaller Windows based model.
