Great product
The Leaf Hog is everything it claims to be.
Powerful motor, mulches good and easy to clean.
Would recommend to everyone.

I wish I had read the reviews of the b&d blower/vac before buying one. I used it for 5 minutes and sparks flew out of it. I used a 12 guage extension cord so the problem was with the machine. Buy the newest craftsman blower/vac-better quality. Cost the same as well.

Faulty switch drove me crazy!, October 26, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker BV4000 Leaf Hog 12 amp Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
When it works, the BV4000 is worth the money. But I've owned 2 and both would stop for no reason. I had the switch fixed by B&D and that worked for about a season, then, again the switch problem. Hitting the switch with my hand would solve the problem for about 10 seconds and then it would stop again. The only permanent result was a sore hand. Shaking the unit just made it worse. Let's face it, the switch is poorly made. Buyer Beware!

No replacement bags, September 6, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker BV4000 Leaf Hog 12 amp Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
This unit has worked very well for me EXCEPT for the leaf bag. Its attachment to the blower is flimsy (plastic clips) and it got to the point where it would not hold at all. Black and Decker does not sell replacement bags, so the only option is to buy a new unit. This has me angry enough at the company that I will probably buy a Toro unit!

faulty product, April 5, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker BV4000 Leaf Hog 12 amp Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
I too had sparks flying out after a few minutes of use. Afterwards it stopped working. Very disappointed because I have an older version of it and never had such problems. I returned it and went with the Toro model. No problems yet.

Black & decker sucks, November 8, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker BV4000 Leaf Hog 12 amp Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
We just bought it tonight from ACE hardware and once we got it out it looked used. Like someone returned it and they just boxed it back up. It was working with good power both blowing and mulching but then started to spark inside it. I'm sorry but if something sparks within MINUTES of use.. you should think about recalling it. Taking it back tomorrow and getting a TORO.
I do NOT recommend this product. Go with a TORO, I've heard nothing but GOOD about them. Same speed and power, and $10 cheaper.

Black and Decker Leaf Spark Hog, September 5, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker BV4000 Leaf Hog 12 amp Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
Sparks started flying from the motor after about 15 minutes use in vacuum mode when it was working great, but now the suction and blow are gone. I'm returning it tomorrow. I should have paid more attention to the reviews of these products but was concentrating on getting one that had a metal impeller since that seemed to be important in a bunch of previous reviews.

Leaf collection bag fails, September 4, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker BV4000 Leaf Hog 12 amp Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
I have used the Leaf Hog since 2008, but with use, the plastic clip that holds the collection bag in place has sagged, and debris
comes out while vacuuming leaves. Then after continued use with debris coming out, eventually the bag just separates and blows off.
In addition, the bag appears to not be strong enough for repeated vacuuming, because it developed a hole in it (and not at a seam)
but where the mulched leaves are directed into the bag.
I wanted to buy a replacement bag, as the motor unit itself works well, but Black and Decker doesn't sell a replacement bag that I can find.
I can still use the unit for blowing leaves, but I will have to buy another leaf blower/vacuum unit if I want the vacuuming function. Since
Black and Decker has been a disappointment, I will purchase the Toro model, which has received very good reviews.
