5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Base
This is a great universal friction mount. I used to own a Nuvi 350 with Garmin friction mount. Unfortunately, Garmin friction mount only works with Garmin unit and does not work with my new TomTom One XL-S.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and dangerous
At first, this unit worked great. A couple of weeks later, the Garmin suction unit kept falling off it. Thankfully, my Garmin GPS unit was not on it. This happened more and more as time went on. I finally put tape on the Garmin suction unit to hold it securely onto this base.

Take Garmin's advice and buy one of theirs. It has a fixed mount on the base which...

Take Garmin's advice and buy one of theirs. It has a fixed mount on the base which does not come off. It was too late for me to change the order from Semson (the manufacturer), but Garmin said they would match their price...

i.Trek mount base is heavy and solid. I especially like the universal design. The bottom has rubber anti-skid pad which sticks to my dash better than Garmin friction mount.

Both Garmin and TomTom factory windshield mounts are pretty useless which becomes weak after few weeks of use. I strongly recommend Arkon suction cup windshield mounts. It works great with i.Trek friction mount base. I have not experienced mount falling off even once during past 5 months of use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great friction mount, May 4, 2008
This review is from: HDFMB3: i.Trek Heavy Duty Friction Mount Base for Garmin Nuvi, TomTom, Mio, Magellan GPS Devices (Bulk package)
Very fast shipping by vendor. There were no instructions with this product but if you keep the GPS mounting surface clean, make sure your dash is not dirty and keep the silicon base clean (don't sit it on a dirty floor mat)this product works great. I use it with a Magellan 4250 and it is very stable.

5.0 out of 5 stars California Changes Law, December 26, 2008

For the folks that may be buying a dash mount in California to stay lawful, the law has changed effective January 1, 2009:

"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill allowing drivers to take advantage of technology intended to help with navigation. It takes effect Jan. 1, 2009.

State law now (2008) prohibits anyone from driving with objects or materials placed, displayed, installed, affixed or applied upon windshields. Exceptions are made for such items as rearview mirrors, toll road transponders and small stickers.

The new law, previously SB1567, allows global positioning system devices to be affixed to vehicle windshields in specific locations.

Portable GPS devices will be permitted to be mounted "in the seven-inch square in the lower corner farthest removed from the driver." They also could be installed "in the five-inch square in the lower corner nearest the driver..."

I bought one for a Christmas present for husband. Then my father-in-law saw it, and wanted one. So I bought the second one. Now both won't use their GPS's without the holder!

Functions as promised. You have a sandbag with a flat center so you can mount your garmin on the base instead of sticking it to the windshield. I was actually looking for one that formed a kind of cradle for the Garmin. It was a gift so what the heck. If you are seeking a mount that is removable, this would be excellent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sucks!, July 28, 2008
This review is from: HDFMB3: i.Trek Heavy Duty Friction Mount Base for Garmin Nuvi, TomTom, Mio, Magellan GPS Devices (Bulk package)
This one could not hold on to the GPS at all...
The GPS kept falling, after few times the GPS stopped working and eventually I had to send the GPS for replacement.
Then I bought GPS accessory for holding the GPS, though slightly more expensive than this one, it is worth it.
Instead of wasting money on this one, I advise people to go for original GPS accessory. This one costed me around ~$20 and the one from Garmin costed ~$27 (both with shipping).
Actually I am not able to rate it with zero(0), so I had to give atleast a 1 star to post this comment.

I bought this mainly because I hate that d@mn suction cup! I can now move my Garmin from a 2009 Kia Sportage to a 1997 Chevy Lumina with ease. It stays put on both dashes and eliminates that annoying suction cup marks on the windshield.

5.0 out of 5 stars FRICTION MOUNT BASE, March 30, 2009
This review is from: HDFMB3: i.Trek Heavy Duty Friction Mount Base for Garmin Nuvi, TomTom, Mio, Magellan GPS Devices (Bulk package)
Excellent product and does a great job. Have not had it "slip or slide" at all. Fantastic product and sure beats puting your GPS on the windshield, and leaving a mark on the windshield to tell felons that you have a GPS stashed away in the car.

I highly recommend this product to all.
