Portable Sanitizer gets the job done
I love this device. It is hard to tell if it really works by just looking at it. The proof comes from the smell it gives off when you sanitize your linens. Also, if you have allergies, you just might feel a lot better in the morning after sanitizing your pillow.
I read some other reviews that said the switch came on too easily. Mine isn't like that at all...

MUST BE NEW MANUFACTURER - CHEAPER/BAD CONSTRUCTION & DIFFERENT PACKAGING
I have bought a few of these over the years. I would give them a 5 star, but this particular order, the unit arrived in different packaging and compared to an old unit (the bulb burned out, and the cost of a new bulb was much more than buying a whole new product), the switch is really cheap and flimsy, the overall weight it lighter (in a bad cheap plastic way - and the...

I love this device. It is hard to tell if it really works by just looking at it. The proof comes from the smell it gives off when you sanitize your linens. Also, if you have allergies, you just might feel a lot better in the morning after sanitizing your pillow.
I read some other reviews that said the switch came on too easily. Mine isn't like that at all. You have to really slide it to make it come on. The little flash light is a nice bonus. That will come in handy while at hotels.
It is a little cheaply made, thus the 4 stars. For a hand held portable/travel device, this will work great. Some UV-C devices won't let you turn them face up but you can with this one. Those others have a safety feature which will shut off if turned upwards. This one also works continuously until you shut it off.
I purchased this device after getting ill in Mexico. I want to sanitize my room and water on the next trip. I plan on ordering the SteriPEN Classic Handheld Water Purifier next. I am not sure if you can use this device to sterilize orange juice like one review did. The SteriPen says it can only be used on clear water not other beverages. So maybe the same would be true for this device?
Use it for soft and hard surfaces and you'll have peace of mind.

Must work, October 15, 2009

I use this to de-germ my laptop keyboard, cell phone, cordless phone, etc...things you can't really WASH. I guess it works...I have had it about a year and last year was the first time in 5 years that i didn't get sick over the winter.

Pocket UV-C, May 28, 2009

Affordable and useful (4) AA battery operated UV-C light.
PROS: -pocket sized, -replaceable 4 watt bulb, -light weight, -price @$17.00 is a great price. UV-C bulb is 3.75" long - enough to sterilize toothbrushes, dentures, PC or other keyboards etc. -Also good in an emergency kit: could be used to sterilize water or other surfaces etc.
CONS: -on/off switch slides easily,(accidently possible), -*uv-c light reflected back onto hand holding the device, -no carry case included,(can trim and save plastic packaging).
Great product/price with a few concerns*.

I have bought a few of these over the years. I would give them a 5 star, but this particular order, the unit arrived in different packaging and compared to an old unit (the bulb burned out, and the cost of a new bulb was much more than buying a whole new product), the switch is really cheap and flimsy, the overall weight it lighter (in a bad cheap plastic way - and the cord fell off immediately (I've got 3 others, 2 with dead bulbs - for comparison) and if it does break after several uses, I will return this one.
I very recently bought the 'pink' one when it was the cheaper of the two (black/pink) (btw - I lost that one - so had to replace it).
The black is obviously a new manufacturer using the same specs, but with much poorer quality.
I don't not think you 'should' or 'should not' buy this product. Check out my review of the Pink one (which does not look all that bad) which was manufactured with the same packaging and standard of quality for this product I have re-purchased several times over the years. (I paid a lot .... I don't remember how much ... but it was a lot for what was then a 'new' technology).
The current model is just awful. If the bulb works in my old unit, I won't have to return it (the on/off switch slider is really bad), but if you buy it and the switch breaks (or falls off) you will probably have to return it.
I don't mean to fuss over what seems like such a stupid and small issue. But if you can't turn it on (because the switch is broken) it is totally worthless. As a 'tool' I would no longer recommend ordering the black model. The pink I bought may have been the last of the lot from the old manufacturer ... and hence it's then lower sale price, if not, buy the pink model if you want a more durable product.
What a shame.

Don't waste your money!!!, July 31, 2010

This product should never ever be sold anywhere it was broke before I used it so was the second one that was sent. Cheaply made handle like a cheap kiddy toy. Wouldn't light up, batteries kept poppin out. Please don't waste your money find another purifier product.

Cheap Plastic, Horrible Switch, January 30, 2010

The cheap slide switch easily gets pushed to the "on" position with no effort. When this happens (and it will happen), it will eat through its batteries, costing you more than the unit itself in no time. Are disinfection benefits are worthwhile? Maybe, but in most situations Clorox wipes would be a better choice.
