This TV is great. The picture is beautiful. I shopped around in stores and on the internet. Get this TV, you won't be sorry. The HDTV channels are stunning. And, the Standard Definition channels are good. It seems that technology has surpassed technology with HDTV. I was talking to a TV salesman the other day and he stated that three years ago he had five HDTV channels on his TV, today direct TV has over 90. I believe by the end of the year their will be more. The tecnnical specifications on Amazon list this TV as having 8ms response time when in fact it is 5ms. The blacks are really black and the brightness is great. Buy this TV!!!

I purchased the Philips 47" LCD TV, item # 47PFL3603D/27 in December 2008. A few months ago the picture started to go black, this is something that happens several times a day. I contacted Philips about it and they told me to read the FAQ's on their website, but this problem was not listed there. On Nov 21, 2010 a white flash of light went across our screen, the TV made a loud static sound and then smoke started coming out of the back of the TV.

Researching this problem I have found many other consumer complaints about this same problem on Philips TV's. Philips is not willing to provide service do to the warranty being up. They gave us a name of a local service center that wants to charge $40 just to look at the TV and we have to take it to them.

Almost $1000 for a TV that last 23 months, this is not acceptable, warranty or not.

I do not recommend anybody to purchase this TV.

Bought this TV in Febuary of 2009 and it lasted until March 2011. It has never been on a stand. Bought it and mounted on wall on day one. Never had a problem with it. But after 2 years the TV made a loud pop and started smoking from the upper right hand corner. Had a tv repair man come out and looked at it and told me that the power circuit board went out. I was about to buy another tv other than Philips but decided to try and fix it myself because philips would not replace or fix tv. I ended up buying a power circuit board online and replaced the blown one. It has been working since then with no problems. I believe this is an issue with this particular tv made by philips/magnavox. Here is a picture of the power circuit board and the blown capacitor/transistor.

I bought the 47PFL3603D/27 LCD TV Feb 2009 and the picture started to go out after six months but the audio would remain. Philips said to upgrade the firmware. This fixed it for six months and now goes blank many times a day. I emailed them many times with no response. I call them however they pretend there are no known issues. Philips has washed their hands of the TV and is telling me I must pay a repair shop to fix. It will cost [...] to fix! Philips made a defective product and will not admit it. I found 100's of complaints like mine, stay away from Philips![...] See this link for 100's of complaints [...]

I purchased this TV in 2008 also first the HDMI went out while it was steal under warrenty they told me that they didn't have another one in stock that they would send me two TV's that would equal 47 in.'s...I told them that if I wanted a small screen Tv I wouldn't have bought a big one ..then they offered to refund my money. but I would have to send the TV back and there tech would have to look at it and then send me a check. In other words I would have to do with out my TV till they made there determanation. The porgressive scan still worked so I told them to forget it. Then just the other day I turned it off and now it want come back one..I would "NOT" recommend this to anyone and if there was a lower rating then one star I would give it.There warrenty aint worth the effert.

We have had problems off and on for the past year with the screen going black but the sound still working. Most of the time it will power back on but sometimes it takes a bit before it will come back on. We like the tv except for that part. A tv of this price shouldn't go bad in less than 2 years.

OMG - we have had this tv for awhile. All of a sudden this a.m. I'm watching it with my 4 y.o. and a big loud noise, a flash and something that looked like a fire was about to happen. It just smells like plastic, I pulled from the walls. I see others have the same issue BUT doesn't look like Phillips does anything about it.

I purchased a Phillips 47PFL3603D/27 TV in the fall of 2009. I loved its picture, and the thing worked great until a few months ago.

First, as others have mentioned, the screen would black out and I'd have to power it off and back on to resume watching. Last night it began making crackling noises and then a horrible burning smell filled my apartment and took a few hours to air out.

Today we turned it on and it began making the static/crackling noises right away, then the smell came and wisps of thick, white smoke began oozing from the back.

I'm hoping the manufacturer provides some sort of remedy, because it is unlikely I'll afford another and I really need it to keep my kids entertained while I work on homework!

Many people are having problems with this tv. After just a couple of years, it begins to go black and you have to turn the tv off, then back on to get a picture. It lasts like this for a few months, then finally burns out on you. There is a replacement part that you can buy on the internet for about $125 bucks to repair, but who wants to repair an expensive tv in just a couple of years use. DO NOT BUY this tv. Phillips will not do anything about this problem.

Great deal at $1300, lots of picture adjustments, but useless for my home theater as it only has one digital audio coax output, which my newer audio reciever doesn't have. Philips just trying to cut corners- parent company LG's equivalent 47" LCD has audio outputs of digital coax, fiber optic, and L,R RCA which most home entertainment centers still have. Unfortunately there's no compatibility with any type of box for converting the audio signal from digital to analog.
