Don't drop it!!!
Really cool product. Couldn't wait to receive it. Love it. It took some figuring out how/when to best use the timers. It seems you can either use it to count down for example when baby last had a diaper change, etc., but if you set a timer for that same event, it erases your previous time when the timer goes off. Biggest thing: DON'T DROP IT!!! I mistakenly had it...

Great product but it doesn't last
Here's the thing you need to know about this product: it works GREAT, especially for a first-time mother, or someone like me, who likes to time everything and have a schedule.
I loved using this item when I had my second baby. I saw it on clearance at Target, so I bought three because I thought it would make a great baby shower gift.

Don't drop it!!!, February 26, 2008
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
Really cool product. Couldn't wait to receive it. Love it. It took some figuring out how/when to best use the timers. It seems you can either use it to count down for example when baby last had a diaper change, etc., but if you set a timer for that same event, it erases your previous time when the timer goes off. Biggest thing: DON'T DROP IT!!! I mistakenly had it clipped to my belt thinking that the belt clip would hold it. I bent down to pick something up, it popped off, hit the floor, and landed it some way so that it broke the back-light button. Took it apart thinking it would pop back out only to find that nothing would work whatsoever when we screwed it back together. I liked the product enough though to order another one. I intend to give these as gifts for baby showers with the caveat to not drop them.

TIME IT RIGHT, March 13, 2009
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
This is a marvelous product, if used at the proper time. With a newborn, this thing will drive you crazy (unless you need the night light) because you'd have to transfer all of the info. There's no way to track even one day's worth of data, so you can't recognize problems, inform your pediatrician (e.g., # of diapers and type, # and length of naps or feedings, etc.) or figure out your baby's patterns (I recommend the Baby Whisperer's E.A.S.Y. Log for that.).
Once your kid reaches about 6-8 weeks and things stabilize a bit, you can rely more on the Itzbeen.
- It's great for handing the kid off to other caregivers, including grandparents (who had no trouble figuring the thing out).
- The timers are cool. They can all be set individually. I use one to remind me to pump between "nursings."
- The beep/blink is useful and it's great that you can turn the sound off (which we do last thing at night).
- Love the multiple colors. My sister's baby is 3 months older than mine and we're together a lot. We never get the blue and green Itzbeens mixed up.
Proposed Improvements:
- Backpack ring in addition to clip
The thinness of the clip is great for clothing (and comfort of the wearer)but not for diaper bags. A ring clip on the side of the unit would give unobstructed options.
- Day's Worth Data Dump
If it would store one day's worth of data that I could download...woo hoo!
- More resistance in L/R indicator
Mine moves too easily.

Must have for 1st time parents!, March 20, 2008
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
We got this as a gift and LOVE it. As new (first time) parents, it just gives you a few less things to think about. So helpful if your pediatrician is (like ours) adament that your baby eats every 2-3 hours (no more, no less). When our daughter is fussy, we can take a quick look at the timer for our first guess about what she needs. 99% of the time, the timer is right!! Get this and the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child" and "Happiest Baby on the Block" for new parents. All genius.

Great product but it doesn't last, June 22, 2009
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
Here's the thing you need to know about this product: it works GREAT, especially for a first-time mother, or someone like me, who likes to time everything and have a schedule.
I loved using this item when I had my second baby. I saw it on clearance at Target, so I bought three because I thought it would make a great baby shower gift.
My first one broke almost right away. I took that back to Target and got a full refund. My second one lasted from the time my son was about a month old to now, and he's almost 11 months. For whatever reason, it decided to quit.
I was hoping to use this timer for other household chores (baking, soaking laundry, etc.), and was bitterly disappointed that it quit working on me.
Although I found this item to be almost impossible to part with, especially when I put myself and my family on a routine, I was disappointed how poorly this timer was constructed. Get it if you're not going to use it for more than 10 months. I'm not a "throw away" consumer, and I would not recommend to another consumer like me.

So useful!, March 29, 2009
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
My husband thinks I'm obsessed with recording baby's diaper changes and feedings (although the word he uses isn't obsessed!). I like knowing how long it's been since he's eaten or been changed - it helps me figure out what he may be fussing about. In addition it's helped me keep really good records about how many feedings per day - how many pees and poops - and I've been able to put together some really clear Excel spreadsheets and charts to trend how much he's eating, how often and whether he's hydrated enough, etc. and also help me figure out if there's anything I need to bring up with his pediatrician on his well-baby visits. Yes, a bit overboard but it makes me feel more confident and that's important too!

Time and time again, August 7, 2008
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
Overall a good addition to new parent's arsenal of weapons to fight fatigue and exhaustion. In the early days of parenthood many things get misplaced, forgotten and dislodged from the mind, and this little gadget can help keep some of them in place.
I was surprised at how small it actually was, given the pictures. It is comparable in size to a cell phone or ipod, and the numbers are small, like a digital watch. If you are diligent, you can get a sense of your baby's schedule, length of time between feedings, periods of sleep, and the ever popular nappy change. But you do have to remember to press the buttons every time you do any of those things, it doesn't reset itself. A written log is probably more practical, and combined, a log and this device can keep you in tune with your baby's needs.
The value of a tool is in it's proper application. So, properly and diligently used, it does make life a bit easier before you get the hang of the whole "baby" thing.

Loved it till it broke, June 10, 2008
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
Update: My brother in law took a look at it and I think he said he had to solder a wire back down. But he got it fixed. I used it for a few months more. My daughter is not 9 months old and I am thinking of using it again to keep track of how long her naps are. I get busy and forget to look at the clock. I do recommend this product very highly, just be warned it can be kind of fragile.
I absolutely love this item. Well that is till it fell off the back of the couch and broke. It fell three feet and now it's dead. I loved it while it worked though. It was so useful to help me keep track of when I fed my newborn and when I took my pain meds and my newborn was in ICU for a few days so I was pumping and it helped me keep track of when I did that too. I am thinking about ordering another one just because of how much it helped me. But not sure if I want to spend the money again if it is so fragile that any kind of bump will break it.

Not just for babies..., May 2, 2008
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
We have this to use when our little girl finally arrives, but I started having contractions during week 32 and used this to time the legnth and time in between. It was really helpful to have the multiple timers going. Ended up having to go to the hospital to stop the contractions, but now I carry in my purse just in case they come back. It was a life saver!

Defective from the get go Revized, May 12, 2008
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
Revision: I actually got a note from the creators of the product offering to replace the product. It does say a lot to see them stand behind it.
The product had a very limited useful life for me -- now that baby is 5 months old I do not use it. Had everything worked properly, however, I would have been happy for the info it provided the first three months and would have ranked it much higher. Again, I would strongly suggest - buy and try in advance.
Original Post:
I hoped to use this thing as soon as I came back from the hospital, so three days before my due date I got it out and tried to make sense how it works only to discover that any time I pressed the second button (the feeding button) the whole thing gets reset and blanks out. Taking the batteries out and placing them back again restarts the thing till the next time you press the same button.
Well, given all time constraints and all you need to do with a newborn who has time to bother with mailing to factory and getting replacement, etc. I wish there was some option to exchange at Babies'r'us or some similar deal but alas -- I am stuck with a defective $25 + item. I do use it and make do using the extra star button as a feeding button, but I quite frankly am annoyed this has to happen -- a simple timer should not be acting up so early on -- not when it is priced as a minor mp3 player. Order well in advance, try using it and take replacement steps before your baby arrives.

Good for "schedule" the baby, March 29, 2008
This review is from: Itzbeen Baby Care Timer - Green (Baby Product)
i had my son on feeding schedule every 4 hours since he was born and i did the same when my daughter arrived 3 weeks ago. with the itzbeen timer is easier for me to remember when it's time and when it's not, having so much to do in the house and with her big brother who keeps my hands full.
it's a good help and yes, very nice baby shower gift.
