5.0 out of 5 stars I have 3 dogs and 3 Illusion Collars
Well we have 3 dogs all who pull terribly. I bought 1 collar to try it out on 1 of our dogs before jumping into ordering 3. Well I loved it so much that ordered the other 2 the same day I tried the first collar. And let me tell you dog 1 is a cocker Spaniel, 1 a 60lb Mixed Breed, and a Husky(natual puller). All 3 dogs have made vast improvements. If I walk them 1 at...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good concept - Needs more work
First of all, we marvel at the skills of Caesar Millan and are big fans of the Dog Whisperer TV show.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have 3 dogs and 3 Illusion Collars, March 20, 2008

Well we have 3 dogs all who pull terribly. I bought 1 collar to try it out on 1 of our dogs before jumping into ordering 3. Well I loved it so much that ordered the other 2 the same day I tried the first collar. And let me tell you dog 1 is a cocker Spaniel, 1 a 60lb Mixed Breed, and a Husky(natual puller). All 3 dogs have made vast improvements. If I walk them 1 at a time I get better results but thats because I have to learn how to control one at a time first. I have however ever walked all 3 at once with these collars and it5 did make a huge difference(before I could have never walked all three). Follow the directions and take your time putting on the collar, it takes some practice but gets easier with every use.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good concept - Needs more work, October 30, 2008

First of all, we marvel at the skills of Caesar Millan and are big fans of the Dog Whisperer TV show.

This collar is a good concept using two concentric collars with vertical pieces to separate them. The upper collar is supposed to stay under the chin of the dog and has a tightening rope lead (like a choke chain) integrated into it where you attach the leash. The lower collar is supposed to anchor the unit at the shoulder and keep it from slipping.

With our dogs, we had success in the past with a conventional choke chain snugged up under the dogs chin to keep its head up and deter pulling. So, the concept works, but a conventional collar or choke chain does not stay up under the chin. Unfortunately, this collar does not stay in position on our dog. We properly size the medium collar for our 50 lb mutt, but our dog has a long-ish neck, so the collar slides down. So if your dog has a long neck this collar will not work. As an improvement, I'd like to see the vertical pieces be made of more rigid material and be adjustable, so you could better anchor the collar at the shoulder and be snug under the dog's chin. Maybe the next version...

Bottom line - I would not recommend this collar if your dog has a long neck. We have had more success with a pronged collar.

I ordered this because of the recommendation of Cesar Milan. It works pretty well...My dog does not really like putting it on because it is quite a contraption, but once it is on my dog responds quite well...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool!, August 12, 2008
This review is from: The Illusion Collar and Leash Set By Cesar Millan: RED and Medium Size
I am a faithful dog whisperer fan and I try to follow the instructions Cesar gives, but I was still having trouble walking my dog correctly. The biggest problem was that all the collars I tried did not stay up on his skinny, long neck. This is perfect! If you adjust it properly it will work. You can make a correction with very little effort. In fact, don't pull too tight because it is placed high on the neck as it should be, according to Cesar, and you will make an impact without force. To walk the dog properly you need a shorter leash so the set is nice. I'd have to spend money on a shorter leash anyway so for me, the set was a good deal!

5.0 out of 5 stars works, February 15, 2009

Best collar for dogs that pull when on a leash. It gives complete control because the collar does not slip down on the neck. It stays up behind the head and a gentle jerk when the dog is not walking beside you corrects the problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great training tool, November 14, 2008

After using this collar for several months now I can say it performed exactly as advertised. My dog responds instantly to the slightest tug from me on the leash. He no longer can pull and walks nicely beside me. It was a transformation from the first walk we took. It does not hurt your dog. It makes it uncomfortable them to pull from the top part of the neck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, July 28, 2009

I have a great mixed breed dog (Gabby) who has gone through professional training and is mostly well behaved. However, her Achilles heel is other dogs! On walks, if she sees another dog, she absolutely looses her mind. She foams at the mouth, growls, barks, and dances around on the end of the leash trying to get to the dog. She is far too strong to be physically contained, and she is so crazy that she absolutely does not hear voice commands. We tried everything, including teaching her to focus on us with a treat. This worked if the dog was some distance away, but if it gets close, forget it, you can hold a steak in front of her face, she wouldn't notice. Not only is her behavior very embarrassing, but both myself and my wife have gotten hurt trying to contain her (she doesn't bite, but has actually knocked me over in her craziness). It reached the point where we would actively try to avoid other dog walkers to avoid these scenes. We even considered paying for one-on-one dog training. However, before going that route, we decided to try the Illusion collar. It works like a charm! We had barely started our first walk using the collar when we encountered a friendly, yet unleashed dog who was not listening to voice commands! As the dog approached us, Gabby immediately went into a frenzy. The great news was that the frenzy lasted about five seconds as she realized that she was choking herself. She immediately responded to the "sit" command and calmed down. Her hackles were raised, but no more scene. In fact, another dog went by at this point, and she remained seated. We encountered about four more dogs on the walk, and each time the intensity of her behavior became less, to where we passed the last dog with her only looking back a few times! Clearly the collar does what it is supposed to.

I would say that it probably works better with a trained dog who knows to respond to commands and with an owner who has some idea of how to control their dog and won't rely on choking the dog, but rather will redirect their behavior to something more desirable. Having said that, I would recommend this product to anyone who has a dog that cannot pass other dogs without loosing their marbles and does not respond to other training techniques (believe me, if this is your dog, you know what I am talking about!). I have read many reviews of this product where people rail on users for not using other training techniques, believe me, for some dogs, these don't work in all cases. If this is your dog, this collar is a great. It is a bit of a pain to put on, and you have to make sure that you get it all right, but it is worth it!

With this Illusion collar, my airedale paid better attention to my commands, and she was easier to control. It didn't eliminate the pulling, but it made it much more manageable. I'm sure Caesar could walk her like a charm, but I'm not Caesar! It's worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Illusion collar works better than a traditional choke collar, July 4, 2009

This collar acts as a lead and does offer better control over the dog. I use this and a hiking backpack made for dogs and Baxter is walking on a mission---hes a completely different walking companion.
Dogs really enter into a different mindset when they feel like they are 'working'. I am slowly adding wieght to the pack and his response has been awesome.
Good job on the collar Cesar.
I can only suggest that they offer it in a couple more colors! :)
