5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing set of accessories
We've owned 3 portable DVD players over the past few years. They tend to last a couple of years and for <$100, used routinely by children, moved about, rattled, run on Car and AC current, that seems acceptable to us. Sure beats having to take the entire car in for service because the DVD player that's built in is acting up ;->

This player is a no-name "Brand" - Coby. We got a Coby DVD player for free with a purchase a year ago and I gave it to my mother-in-law. She watches movies 3-4 nights a week with it and loves it. So, when I saw this tablet version from Coby that had all the features I wanted and was around $100, even though its a no-name brand, I bought it.

Wow, the description did not cover what comes with the player:
- remote w/ batteries
- 2 corded sets of headphones (the player has 2 headphone jacks!)
- AC power
- Car charger power cord
- headrest bag with attachments
- Cassette connector and cords for running audio through the cars audio
- A/V cords

It started right up, played without a hitch, has a nice picture, remote works like a charm, headphones both work and inserting them (in either outlet) cuts off the speakers (plus), easy controls on front, and the case is built to hold the player while revealing all the essential buttons-knobs-controls.

Only downside, so far, is that the cords are a wee but on the short side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't be beat, November 2, 2008

Can't be beat...even though that's exactly what my special-needs son does to it. And it lasts for at least 6 months of daily abuse. Imagine how many years of service it would provide under normal conditions. The picture is gorgeous and there is more volume available with this version than with some earlier models. It's super easy to use and comes with more accessories than you can shake a stick at! Travels great. Can't imagine anyone not loving it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good Deal, February 4, 2009

This was just a really good deal for the money, honestly for any money as far as I can tell. I have had this since before Christmas 2008 and have not had one complaint. The accessories; 2 head phones, car jack, house jack, a TV jack, a holder for stapping to a head rest or even a visor in my truck and a remote control! I guess the only downside is the holder covers the speakers so sound is a little muffled for road use. The holder even holds it in a grocery cart for a peaceful shopping trip. OH and when you turn off the player with a movie in view it saves the place so when you hit the switch it comes right back on to the spot you left off! The only thing that would make this better is a carrying case for all the stuff! I would never pay to have one of those dvd player factory installed on my vehicle with these things around! Did I mention my 6 year old boy was operating this?

This was great at first. As previous reviewers stated, the accessories were great, the picture was fine.. we loved it. For a month. Then it quit working.

I called Coby customer service and they said they would email me instructions on how to return the item. In this email they request a cashiers check for $15. PLUS I had to pay for the shipping back to them. SO, in order to get my DEFECTIVE product repaired I was going to have to pay in excess of $20 when I'd only paid $80 for the whole thing.

I called and complained about this policy but was basically told "too bad". I let them know that my first order of business was to come here and share my story and I was told "okay". SO here it is,, Buyer Beware. I'm not willing to spend $20 to ship back something that might conk out again as soon as we get it back. We are the proud owners of an $80 paper weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very very happy, February 12, 2009

Well, this is the first review I have written, so sorry if it is to long or short. The reviews I read on this portable DVD/CD player convinced we that it would be worth a try. It was/is worth every penny. I use it to play CD books from the library and my wife uses it to play DVD courses from the Teaching Company. I was happy when my wife said the really liked the unit. One note, if you use the headphones, the sound is great. But the built in speakers are just what you would expect for the price. Also, the headphones that come with the unit are the type that have the bridge across the back of the head and not the top, so some people will want to use their own headphones for comfort. Also the FF and REV control is just a little different than I am use to, but I will attribut this to me, not the user interface design as this is my first DVD player.

1.0 out of 5 stars COBY DOES NOT BACK ITS PRODUCTS!!!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Coby TFDVD7051 7-Inch Portable Tablet Style DVD/CD/MP3 Player, Silver (Electronics)
We purchased a Coby portable DVD Player in June of 2009. It lasted until November before it quit working. The warranty states that labor is covered for 90 days and parts are covered for 1 year. When we contacted Coby they said that the player itself is only covered for 90 days. They said that the player is not considered a part. They tried to claim that the player itself is only covered under labor. We are still confused by the whole conversation. Bottom line COBY DOES NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTYS. If you divide the cost of this product by the number of DVDs we played on it cost us about $15.00 per use before itself destructed.
On top of the problem that we had with the device failing after a few short months of little use, the product itself is not that impressive. It is complicated to navigate the menus and is not designed for use by children, so be ready to crawl in the back seat to change DVDs. To change a DVD, you must disconnect all 5 wires that are connected to the main devise, remove it from its clumsy pouch, insert the new DVD, and then put it all back together again. The product is also bulky and has wire running in every direction. Poor design and cheat construction. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. IT WILL ONLY STRESS YOU OUT AND MAKE YOUR CHILDEREN SAD. If I can save one person the stress that a Coby product would bring, then this posting would have been worth my time and effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice product, value for money, March 19, 2009
This review is from: Coby TFDVD7051 7-Inch Portable Tablet Style DVD/CD/MP3 Player, Silver (Electronics)
Great product for price point. Decent sound and works great with all DVDs. Could not forward or skip home made DVD but it could be issue how DVD was prepared. Picture is good and controls are easy to follow. the slick design has a cone of its own. You have to remove the unit from car head rest holder to put new DVD in, when you do that the buttons on side may move making AV out to AV in and then you wonder why your DVD is not running. Move AV button back to out and you are good to go. This happens because unit fits snugly in the car head rest holder that comes with it.
Overall, all car charger, cables and remote included. Great purchase so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, February 2, 2009

We bought this portable dvd player to help entertain our three year old on the plane over the holidays. We have only used a few times so far, but the picture is very good and the battery life has been pretty consistently around 3.5 hours (movie watching exclusively). This player is also very light weight and not too bulky, making it very easy to travel with. It comes with a fairly cheap, but adequate case to attach to the headrest of a seat for car viewing. It also has a cheap plastic flip-out piece to allow this "tablet style" unit to stand up on a table for easier viewing. While this piece hasn't broken yet, it certainly seems like it could fairly easily. This unit also came with a charging cord, a car charger power cord, a remote with batteries, two sets of headphones, av cords, and a few other items. We bought this player to replace an 8.5" Polaroid player that, after less than two years, won't hold a charge much more than 30 minutes, figuring that spending around $90 on this player would at the very least be worth the money for the plane rides over the holidays. This Coby player is considerably better than the Polaroid, and I would highly recommend this unit to anyone in the market for a portable dvd player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Saver, March 14, 2009

This review is from: Coby TFDVD7051 7-Inch Portable Tablet Style DVD/CD/MP3 Player, Silver (Electronics)
My little girl just turned 18 months and now when we go on long trips she can be a "bear." I looked all over for portable DVD players and will say that nothing could compete with this one when considering the price and quality of product. I comes with a mount for installing on your headrest (with other ones you would have to buy that mount separatly and they can be bulky). The sound was much louder than an Audiovox that we bought earlier from Walmart and later returned. This one comes with 2 headphones, a car charger, and to my delight a cassette which you can put in your cassette player and conect the sound to your car's stereo. Our car's cd player broke, but now we can play cd's on this Coby and run the sound through our car speakers. For us and our family this has been an awesome product. If it breaks I will let you know, but for now, I would say that this is the best value.

This product just broke, after 16 months of light use it won't read DVD's.
