I bought this a few weeks ago. I really have no complaints. The volume is plenty loud. I like the remote. And the screen is huge! It does have two "dead" pixels on the screen though. Little white dots. They are on the very left side, and not in the main viewing screen, so I don't notice it. Still, I could have gotten unlucky and they could have been in the center...

I bought this DVD player as a Christmas gift in Nov 08. I gave it to my husband as a gift and it stopped working in Mar 09. It would say it was loading the DVD and never advanced. We got about three months of use out of the player. I e-mailed Coby with no success. They never responded to my e-mail. I called and waited on hold for 20 minutes only to find out I had the serial number and not the model number. I called back a second time with the model number and waited on hold for 20 minutes before being cut off. I called a third time and waited on hold for over 20 minutes only to be told it was more than 90 days and there was nothing they could do to help me. I loved the thing for the three months it worked. I hated that it only worked for three months and the customer support was terrible.

I think it is well worth the price overall though, and if this lasts longer than a year the way I use it, then I would have paid more. I use it every night, and fall asleep with it on. I don' travel with it, so I can't say for sure how long the battery life really is.

Purchased this dvd player to replace an older one with a smaller screen. Was not really excited about it being from Coby, from whom I had previously purchased another product which was complete trash, but was intrigued by the features, the positive reviews on this board, and the deep dish discount from Amazon with free shipping throw in. Now, some two months since purchase, I remain very pleased with the product. Screen image is pretty decent for a portable. The sound from the speakers when you are not using headphones will not blow you away, but is acceptable if you are up close. (I have actually been successful in using a double male connector to attach my Altec Lansing in Motion iM413 Portable Audio System for Sansa to produce expanded sound). Controls are well organized and function well. Swivel part of the machine is a bit odd, as you can only swivel clockwise and the machine sits better and image shows better with the swivel not in use. Machine is very handsome but a bit light and seems fragile, although it has borne up well so far. Probably needs a padded protective case to survive any travel usage. All in all a good value and probably the best buy in its portable size category.
As of April 8, 2010, approximately one year out, still going strong and giving good service.

After looking at several different brands of portable DVD players, I thought I'd take a chance with a not-so-famous brand like Coby. We've now owned it for about 4 months and put well over 100 hours of usage and still no signs of breakage or repairs. We even connected it to our flat-screen TV for some time while we were still unpacking. Not HD quality, but definitely versatile.
Pros:
* Price is very affordable, especially considering the 10.2" screen.
* Picture resolution is impressive for the size, (perfect quality can't be expected with these!). You can still see the picture well even in bright settings.
* Sound volume is good, not tinny or low.
* Easy for kids to use.
* Accessories included. Saves the headache of shopping for them later.
Cons:
* You can't control the volume using the remote.
* The battery doesn't hold charge for more than one movie.
* You have to restart the movie if you turn it off.
* Headrest harness is kind of a pain to use if you have to constantly change DVDs.
* The plastic casing does feel a little cheap, but it has endured the wear and tear of an active 3-year old.
I would recommend this product to anyone looking for something to distract kids with on a long car ride. Since we bought it, I've compared it to others displayed at the stores, and only Sony seems to have a better picture. It blows other low-range and mid-range brand DVD players out of the water.

This is an excellent DVD player. I was skeptical at buying a Coby but so far, I have not had any problems. The 10.5 inch screen is awesome and being able to swivel in any direction makes this machine almost perfect.
The only thing I do not like is the finish of the player. Shows fingerprints and is hard to clean, but these things are minor.
I would recommend this product to anyone.

This is a great product, nice clear wide screen, very adapdable for viewing and easy to carry in your briefcase for airplane travel. The ability for two listener's is great as well as the easy control both via remote and on the unit. One significant draw back is the battery life. The battery life is 2.5 hrs max and in that respect is very disappointing. There are players out here with up to 10 hrs battery life, but don't possess the features and price of the Colby.

The picture isn't as crisp as other DVD player's I've owned. The only problem I have is the on and off switch, it doesn't switch on as smoothly as it should, usually have to tinker with it 2 or 3 times before it will come on.

This has a nice screen for viewing DVD's. However, it needs to be kept mostly stable. I have had it stall when I moved it while watching. This seems to require turning off / turning back on the "on/off" switch to get back to viewing. The cord to electric outlet falls of the device port easily, and the battery does not seems to get through a standard DVD movie before notification of low battery, even when fully charged. Still it beats the TV screens sticking up all over the place. It folds up nice and tidy out of sight until use. The device comes with 2 folding headsets with two plug in ports which is a really nice feature.

The 10.2 inch screen is very good. It has a good picture. When you pause it will only pause for 5mins and then you will have to start the movie over again. The volume at full power is still not too loud. Other than that, it is an awesome DVD player.

EXTREMELY happy with this purchase ... I'm normally a name-brand only buyer and crossed my fingers on this one after reading all the reviews for all of the other manufacturers ... each one has at least one thing that everyone wishes was better so why pay the premium price for a product that doesn't live up to the premium. I'm glad I took the gamble ... it is a beautiful player and it works with every format of disc I've thrown at it so far. Screen resolution is great for a portable and you can't get this price for a ten-inch screen from any other brand. Definitely glad I went with the 10 inch ... seems like anything smaller wouldn't do. Purchased for a 12 hour car trip we have coming up with our 19 month old daughter ... she's going to love being able to watch all of her favorite PBS shows on the road! I do wish the screen rotated 180 in both directions instead of just to the left, but I'm being picky. Got the Vogel's EMC5000 DVDock Car Headrest Mount for Portable DVD Players to go along with it since the included headrest mount doesn't fit my 2007 CR-V headrests. All in all great buy.
