Ok set but not great, May 22, 2010
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Dump Truck (Toy)
As many others have commented, this set can be challenging. I got this to supplement the pieces in the 400 piece value tub.
My 5 year old took several hours (spread over a couple of days) to put it together and did get frustrated during the process but managed to complete it by himself. He even commented that he had to be careful and gentle with it. It takes a fair amount of patience so be honest about how much patience you and your child have before buying this. I don't think my 4 year old or I have the patience to mess with it but my 5 year old has always enjoyed challenging puzzles.

The worst crap that you can ever buy, February 12, 2010
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Dump Truck (Toy)
Never stays together. It falls apart while you are trying to build it. I have built many many toys for my son but this totally throws me out of my patient. Even after you are so careful to build it spending almost an hour not to make it fall apart. It takes only a half of a second for your 5 years old son to bring it back to you to build it again.
NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!

Frustrating, November 27, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Dump Truck (Toy)
After my 5 year old had a great experience with the Knex ferris wheel, which uses mainly rod-shaped pieces and not lego-shaped blocks, we tried this set. It is FRAGILE and frustrating. It falls apart at the slightest touch. The only reason I gave this two stars is that my son likes to use the stripped down chassis/motor/wheels assembly to play with, without all the dump truck parts on top.

Poor enough quality to reduce a child to tears, January 3, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Dump Truck (Toy)
My 8-year-old son received this kit for Christmas, and I couldn't be more angry about his experience with it. The pieces hold together so poorly it's nearly impossible to construct any complicated assembly with them. "Legos" this AIN'T. After spending ALL DAY trying to assemble it, he asked me for help and, after 45 minutes trying to piece together his meticulously-constructed subassemblies into a completed whole, I'm prepared to pronounce it impossible.
I'm a professional engineer, and would like to think I have the perception and delicate touch necessary to assemble anything, but I'm at wit's end with the fragility of this product. Frankly, I'm amazed that he accomplished what he did... any time I try to combine two assemblies, regardless of how gingerly, they fall apart at multiple places.
K'nex makes a fine product when they stick to their rod-and-connector basics, but this "would-be-Legos" kit is bad, bad, bad, and I've had to suffer through the 8-year-old's tears of frustration as a result.

Not for 5 year olds, January 3, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Dump Truck (Toy)
My almost-5-year-old son received this toy for Christmas and we tried assembling it together. However, there are so many pieces and most of them very tiny that I ended up just having him find and give me the pieces while I did the assembling. Also, I finally assembled everything (almost 2 hours!) when one little wrong nudge make several pieces loose and come apart! Very flimsy, very frustrating, and really not for kids as young as five (which is what the box says). My son received a playmobil set that has small pieces also but the pieces stay together so much better than this one.

If you want blocks, stick to LEGO, January 25, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Dump Truck (Toy)
I agree with the previous reviews. The instructions are difficult, even for an adult. And the LEGO-like pieces are just a cheap imitation that refuse to stay together. My son loves the rod-and-connector pieces at school, but this one is awfully frustrating.

In the beginning, fun; in the end, horrible, January 19, 2009
A Kid's Review
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Dump Truck (Toy)
My name is Miguel and I am 7 years old. When I first started it seemed really cool. But then when I was kind of in the middle of it, it got really hard. Then I had to put one piece on the truck and it all fell apart. It was impossible to get it all to stay together. And this is supposed to be for five and up!
