Decent phone marred by two major flaws
I recently became eligible for a phone upgrade and instead of going with the free option like I usually do, I decided to spend the extra fifty bucks and purchase the LG enV2. Yeah it had several features that I probably would never use, like the music player and the VZ Navigator, but it also came with a QWERTY keyboard which I'd been wanting.

I did not buy this from Amazon as I took advantage of a discount through my employer, but after a week now I am thrilled with the coverage and with the phone. Coverage area is Charlotte, NC/Fort Mill, SC.
Love the phone! Sleek, small but not too tiny and with a very solid feel to it, esp. when opening the phone up. Like the 2-stage opening, up to 180 degrees. Making calls is easy, speakerphone is clear as is all-round call quality. Camera does pretty well for what it is. Video is a little weak, but this is a phone, after all. VZ Navigator works well, keyboard is great for mobile emailing. I have the maroon color and have had several compliments on this.
In short, this is a great little phone. I am neither a heavy texter nor a techie, but am finding myself easily enjoying the various abilities of this little phone. Very impressed with the ENV2 and would certainly recommend it!

I was one of the few people in the world who LOVED their Motorola RAZR. So when it came time to upgrade, I was hesitant because I was afraid anything I bought would be a downgrade. The LG EnV2 proved me wrong! I am a heavy text-er so the qwerty keyboard is great (even though I have long nails its still easy to use!) The sound quality of the phone on both ends is exceptional. The user-interface on the phone is very friendly. There are a lot of surprise features like how the phone will read your incoming text messages outloud at the touch of a button! The screen on the front is small, but it is surprising how many functions it is capable of. The ringtones selection is great and they sound good on the phone. The one negative I would have to say is the placement of the camera on the back of the phone. The lens is positioned right where your hand needs to be to take the picture. However, I purchased this phone for its powerful texting ability and it has not let me down. The battery life is AMAZING. I'm going on about 85+ hours straight right now and I'm only down one battery bar. That is with constant playing with my new toy! If you are looking for something small, sturdy, relatively light weight with a qwerty keyboard you can't possibly go wrong with this phone!

Okay, so it looks like a "calculator" from the front, but there's so much more to it. I've had this phone for about 2 weeks, upgrading from the Motorola krazr. At first, I had to get used to the QWERTY keyboard, which is little compact, but pretty cool. The Fn key is handy for setting up to 10 short cuts. The directional pad is easier for even more shorcuts!
Battery life: lasts 2-3 days, lasts 1-2 days if frequently using vcast extras.
Screen[s]: External: A little small, not a lot of menu options. "locks" itself every 7 seconds or whatever you set it to. you see yourself constantly pressing the OK key.
Internal: pretty large at 2.4 inches. no problems. very clear.
Camera [2.0MP]: on the external screen, when you take a picture it cuts off part of what your taking a picture of, but when you flip it open, it has the rest of the picture.
It's sometimes frustrating to take pictures because you end up having to flip it after you take it. Besides that, great quality images.
options of: nighttime mode, different color settings, brightness, white balances, and quality size.
Media:can have access vcast and stream videos. has a slot for a micro SD card [up to 8gb].
The speakers on this thing are amazing for such a tiny device, they are very loud, only downside is that when you plug headphones(2.5mm) into it it's extremely loud because of only 6 volume settings.
Overall: everything is sleekly designed, with a music button in the front and everything is flush. There is so much too this phone, I've recommended it to several of my friends who have gotten it and they love it too! If you think this is the phone for you, I would suggest going to the verizon store and playing with it for a while before you buy.

After activating it and getting it home, I sat for a while and got myself acclimated to the functions. Quickly I realized that a GPS-enabled music and video player was more of a phone than I really needed. In fact, I probably would never use most of the features included. I use a phone for making calls and texting, that's it. But I loved the keyboard and figured that would make it worthwhile. The next day I went out about my business, ready to enjoy my new device, when I discovered the two problems that would quickly become dealbreakers for me.
First, the vibrate mode is so weak that while going about with the phone in my pocket, I was totally unaware of ANY calls that came through. Realizing this, I had my wife call me several times and I still didn't feel the phone vibrating, even though I was expecting it. I thought maybe it was just because I was walking and took a moment to sit still with the phone pressed against my thigh and waited for her to call again. I felt it, but it was so faint it still took me a moment to be sure it was the phone and not some random muscle twitch. Maybe I'm just spoiled by my previous phone which buzzed so hard it was like a power tool in my pocket. Whatever the case, a phone that isn't able to adequately alert me to incoming calls is a poor performer in my book.
The second problem is even bigger: The exterior keypad lock. I read a couple of people complaining about this in other reviews but I went with the phone anyway, saying to myself "how bad could it be?" Well, it's really bad, actually. While carrying the phone in my pocket I somehow managed to activate it and make calls, one of which lasted 16 minutes before I noticed it. I'd accidentally dialed my wife. The problem is she never picked up the phone and my phone didn't disengage. I could have burned through a couple of hours of minutes if I hadn't noticed when I did. The so-called keypad lock is really poorly designed and, in addition to not working, is a hassle to manipulate.
So now I find myself with a mobile phone that I feel compelled to check every five or ten minutes because I'm paranoid that I'm either missing calls or inadvertently dialing contacts and eating up minutes. These flaws vastly outweigh the convenience of having a QWERTY keyboard, and considering my disinterest in the other functions, I've decided to return this phone and go with the simpler free flip phone I originally intended to get.
I'm sure this model would be great for people who are more inclined to use the many features and who opt to walk around with their phones in pouches on their hips; but for a guy who just wants to make and receive calls along with the occasional text, the LG enV2 is just not practical or user-friendly.

At first I wasn't too excited about the keypad because I thought it looked funny, but after getting used to that, I love this little phone.
Here's what I like:
-Traditional Keypad, on the outside of the phone. Easy to make calls.
-Bluetooth, love it!
-QWERTY Keyboard on the inside. I have teenagers who love to text me. This makes it easy for Mom to respond in kind.
-VCast, videos, games, music and Internet. I didn't think I would use it, but it's actually fun. Shh, don't tell my kids, I blocked the service on their phones!!
Here's what I wish were better.
-Camera, doesn't really take the best pictures. Not easy to point and shoot especially using the view finder on the outside (cuts off your view.) The camera on my last cheapie LG was way better.
-Same for the video recorder. I tried capturing video of my kid's basketball game, it was not great quality. Too small to really see well anyway. Not really worth having these two features.
-I have a little difficulty hearing if I just use this without the blue tooth.
But in spite of that, it's a fun little phone and I really enjoy it.

Up until about a week ago I had the LG Chocolate and was miserable. It was the original, that they no longer sell, and I was counting down the days until my upgrade. It was the longest two years.
From having that phone I was able to determine that I really wanted a QWERTY Keyboard, and I had really wanted the original EnV because I know several people who have it and say it's fantastic. About a week prior to my upgrade they introduced the EnV2 and I was concerned that the new one wouldn't be as reliable as the old one, but I didn't want to get the Voyager because I thought it was too bulky. So that left me with either a blackberry or the new EnV2.
Since we don't subscribe to the internet service or email, I thought the blackberry would be a waste. The EnV2 is a nice upgrade from a normal phone, but not as advanced as the blackberry. I have not regretted my decision one bit. The EnV2 is a nice almost smart phone upgrade. I love the keyboard for texting and reminders. And I also love that it closes to just looking like a normal number pad. There are some issues with pocket dialing but I was able to solve that problem with a case. It is taking some getting used to answering wise because when the phone is closed you have to hit the send button to answer class and for some reason that big OK button seems the logical key to press so I get a little confused sometimes but its nothing that time can't fix. It's a wonderful phone and I haven't been this happy with a phone since I first subscribed to Verizon Services.
The picture quality is pretty good - and the videos are as well. This phone has met all of my expectations and even exceeded them.

I went from a first-generation Razr to this phone, so it was a definite upgrade for me. I don't know if I would buy it again unless it had a few more items for the same low price. But I love the color and QWERTY very much. Being an avid texter, that keyboard is great.
I love the fact that you can put in a micro card and get your items without paying a data transfer fee (I refuse to pay $1.99 per image). Since no card or USB cord comes with the phone, I bought them here from independent sellers (unfortunately, the USB cord isn't recognized by my computer and the San-Disk card had a bad adapter, so I'm 0 for 2 with sellers here). The pictures are really promising but the video quality is just as bad as my Razr.
The alarm has a mon-fri setting, weekends, daily, etc. Definitely nice. But the volume on the alarm is the same as the volume for calls and you can't change it just for the alarm. I have a loud volume while at work, but that same volume sounds like a nuclear weapon when you're asleep at 6am. And on that subject, there is no "quiet" ring. It goes from loud to vibrate, to off. Since when does the lowest setting still mean "loud"?
The book included is practically useless. I still cannot figure out how to answer call-waiting without hanging up on both people. The little symbols on the screen have no definitions, so I have no idea what they all mean. It could be telling me I'm on hold with Pakistan and I'd never know.
After hating on the book, I realized that what ISN'T in there is stuff you CAN'T do (novel concept) like changing the time. WHY? Why can't I decide to program my phone 5 minutes fast, or exactly the time of my child's school bell? Irritating. I almost returned the phone for that exact reason.
No speakerphone with the clamshell closed. And the speaker will stay on afterwards unless you manually turn it off- closing the clamshell doesn't turn it off. It is easier to make a peanut butter sandwich while driving than to make a hands-free call at the wheel. I haven't found the shortcuts to calling someone while the clamshell is open (see "useless book" above), so I use the voice command. That little feature does work well.
So on that note, USING SPEAKERPHONE WHILE DRIVING. Since this is apparently not only my bane, but others too, here's what I do: push the CLR/microphone button on the keypad (you can hear the voice command with the clamshell closed), tell it whom to call, and then after a second or so, open the clamshell. I'm sure there must be a better way, but the book... well, you know.
The keypad lock is very poor. You need to push the OK button to unlock the phone, but this button is in the center of the keypad and the same height as all the others. My dog laid on the phone one day and managed to call people. I'm afraid to put it in my purse or back pocket lest it call Pakistan without me knowing it.
I didn't have to enter a password when calling my voicemail with my Razr, so having to do it now stinks. You have to press # after the password, which requires more than a few keystrokes with the clamshell open. So checking voicemail via speakerphone is terrible. I think LG wants to get all people hands-free whether they like it or not.
Whomever positioned the camera lens where it is needs to go back to school. My finger is in so many pictures I feel like a painter. But the camera does come with different settings that are very nice (the nighttime setting made a huge difference on some of my photos).
I pretty much wanted a QWERTY and good picture quality. I got both of those. The sound quality is good, so overall I like it ok. However I will be changing it to something else once my contract expires.

Once my contract with T-Mobile expired, I was free to finally browse other carriers and their cell phones. I had wanted to give Verizon Wireless a whirl. I wanted something to make calls and send/receive text messages, but also to browse the web, listen to music, store pictures and get some neat applications. The LG enV2 seemed like an ideal choice for me. Plus, the maroon-colored one seemed like a fashionable, sexy choice for a geek chic such as myself. :)
Well... after using this phone for about a week, the inconveniences outweighed the good stuff. The calls sounded clear and the Qwerty keyboard, while small, was great for texting, and the phone does have a nice look to it, but the good things end there.
* The phone's volume isn't high enough for me. And when I have to constantly tell the people on the other line to speak up, it just becomes annoying. Can you hear me now indeed!
* The lock feature is a big nuisance. You cannot hesitate to type in a number or look up a number for one second because that's all it takes for the keys to lock up. You will have to unlock the keypad more times than what is considered normal.
* The front screen is too small. I thought it wouldn't matter to me. After all, it does have a larger screen when you flip it open on the side, but it nevertheless became a deal-breaker as I continued to use it.
* The web browser isn't so great, and neither is the phone's interface.
* The phone doesn't come with an USB cord. You have to buy it separately. You also have to buy the memory card (expandable to 8GB) separately. Both of these things would've been fine had this phone been compatible with a Mac...
* It's not compatible with a Mac. I couldn't synch all of my pictures, music, contact and other important stuff into this. Why oh why do I have to bother with boot camp and special Verizon software just to do this?!?
* I have to use Verizon's crappy V-Cast software to do everything from downloading music, videos to changing the phone's wallpaper.
* Don't like the built-in camera. Positioning the phone to take a picture is troublesome and awkward.
And so, those were the reasons why I returned the LG enV2 to Verizon. (You can only do this during the 30-day trial.) I got the LG Dare afterwards, which I also returned. (More on that on another review.) I ended up going to AT&T and getting the iPhone 3G instead, which suits me perfectly. (I might end up getting a VZ account to get a BB Curve or Storm to separate work contacts with personal and work contacts that I'd want to be in touch with all the time.) The LG enV2 just wasn't my cup of tea. If I am wrong about the features, or if there is some sort of solution for the problems I had with it and wish to share it for any interested buyers, feel free to do so. These, however, are my reasons for disliking the phone and I stand by my review. Good luck!

I switched to this phone because I wanted a phone where I could read the font when texting as my previous LG phone had a small font that you could not change. I read a lot of reviews, mostly positive and my thoughts are mostly positive. I do have to agree with some of the reviewers about the "pocket calls." I opened my phone to find the message: "message failed" which meant I apparently tried to send a text message while the phone was in my pocket. I looked at the number and it was *'s and #'s, with numbers that were random, so thankfully, no message actually went anywhere! Later, I got a call from a family member asking if I had just called and I said, "no." However, after looking at my phone, it looked as if I had called the person. I hadn't placed a call, but while the phone was in my pocket, the unlock key had obviously been pressed accidentally and then probably a speed dial number which led to my family member getting a call from my phone. I have found myself looking at my phone all day long, if it is in my pocket, to make sure I haven't called someone! I may have to use the security feature which will be a pain. Other than that, I haven't had any problems with the phone, the QWERTY keys are great for texting, I can adjust the font so I can see what is being sent to and from me. The calls are clear and it was easy to sync with my handsfree Parrot in my car. I do wish I could find a case that would allow me to put it in my pocket so it doesn't fall out (which it hasn't, yet), but most of the cases are bulky or unattractive.
STOPPED THE POCKET CALLS! After dealing with too many pocket calls, I started looking at the security lock and other things to see if I could stop the pocket calls. I found the answer for me and it will probably work for others experiencing the same problem.
On the front of the phone, hit "ok" to unlock the keyguard. Hit "ok" again to see the menu, scroll down to keyguard settings. You will see the choice for keyguard timer and then "unlock options." Scroll to the "unlock options" and hit "ok." You will see 2 choices, "one step unlock" and "two step unlock." I chose "two step unlock" and since then I haven't had one pocket call. Instead of hitting "ok" for a call to go out, you have to hit "ok" then "clr" to make a call. Might be a hassle if you are in a hurry to make a call, but it's just one more click and it prevents those unwanted outgoing calls!!!! I had bought a case for this phone, but it proved useless as far as preventing those pocket calls. So, give this 2 step unlock feature a try, it might solve the problem for those of you that had problems with pocket calls!

I've had this phone one week (upgrade from Motorola RAZR) and I'm really pleased with it. Texting is so easy. The external screen is small but does what it needs to do. I love the external keypad - its so large. In total, I'm so happy to have a QWERTY phone - and its less bulky than I thought it would be. I haven't had issues with the phone coming unlocked in my purse/pocket at all...
