4.0 out of 5 stars Great Item
This item works great. I recently had a party and placed one speaker on the second floor for the guests to enjoy, and brought one into the basement for the rest of the party. The wireless connection went through two floors! Sound quality is good, not great...but I expected that since it is a smaller dock station. It works perfectly for background music at a party! I...

My first problem with this product is that it is NOT "the freedom of ultimate stereo" as described here. When I opened and listened, I could not detect stereo separation. My first problem with this product is that it is NOT "the freedom of ultimate stereo" as described here. When I opened and listened, I could not detect stereo separation. I looked in all their literature and did not see the word "stereo". I looked at their website and did not see the word "stereo." I wrote to customer service and got a vague replay back telling me everything I had read. I wrote back again and I asked if the speakers had "Stereo separation". The reply was "Thank you for your continued correspondence. There is no separation between the left and right sides. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
HMDX Audio Representative

Now that I feel that I have corrected the misstatement above, I can tell you what I feel about the speakers. They are great if you are not looking for a stereo or even a great system for sound fidelity. They do however, work wonderfully if you need all of your sound in different locations. For me, putting a speaker at each end of a board table while I project a video is perfect as it gets the best sound to all, in a very light, portable , system. Some of the music was distorted, but speaking voices are excellent. I am keeping the system because it does serve a purpose. Also, it is great for bringing a speaker outside with one inside since each speaker contains all the sound.

I will however, purchase another system for my ipod that has better fidelity and stereo separation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad... could be better.., May 16, 2009
This review is from: Homedics HMDX-S50 Wireless Speaker System and Dock for iPod (Health and Beauty)
This is a descent little speaker dock for the ipod. IPOD though. NOT Iphone!. You can plug your 2g or 3g iphone into this dock fine but it must go into "airplane" mode. Meaning your phone is off just so it can play music. SO when your friends call you, it will goto voice mail instead of ringing. It will charge either of the iphones as well. If you don't put it into airplane mode then the data transmissions cause pops and snaps in the speakers and loss of audio. The speakers last about 4 hours on a charge. Will go about 100+ ish feet. Each speaker has a "on/off/volume" control on them. The speakers are nothing to write home about. They're not tinny. They're not anything that could be considered "premium" quality either. They're very much vanilla. What you see is what you get. The bass response is lacking. If you enjoy anything with a good strong punchy bass line then you will find it lacking. If it had more support for the iphone. It would have been 4 stars. Another product that if they had spent another 10 minutes working on would have been a real stand out product instead of a middle of the pack.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Parties, August 18, 2010

Everything came shipped in great condition. The system is small and lightweight, which makes it easy to move around. The rechargeable wireless speakers are great for parties. The speakers, however, do suffer from static when a barrier is put between them and the base of the unit. Also, the speakers are not stereo (meaning that each speaker plays all layers of music and does not switch from speaker to speaker like surround sound). It's affordable and convenient.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped Working after 5 months, January 3, 2010

The speakers worked great at first and I was really excited. But after 3 months one of the speakers wasn't working. It would cut in & out and I had to have the volume at a certain level in order for it to play. Then 2 months later the entire unit just stopped working. Everything turns on and adjusts, but there is absolutely no sound coming out of the speakers & I have tried a lot of different things to fix it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not long lasting, August 29, 2009

don't know what the problem is with the person that wanted it to be "stereo". it is not stereo. if the speakers had different sounds from one to the other (stereo), they would be useless as remote speakers. that said, I bought these speakers about six or eight months ago. I have it plugged into my laptop and play my iPod shuffle on it daily. The sound is very good. It does have a lot of distortion at high volume, but it can get very loud before the distortion starts. I listen to online radio programs that I download daily. I download on iTunes, synch to my shuffle, or play directly from the computer and carry the speaker around with me while I do my chores and listen to the radio. I use these every day for three or four hours a day. The problem I have found is that after about six months, one of the speakers stopped re-charging while sitting in the charger, so I only have one portable speaker now. it does run for four or five hours on a charge, as the dead one did until it stopped holding a charge over a week's time and now does not recharge at all. I have not found a place to replace a single speaker, and probably will not buy another of these units to replace the one that is conking out after less than a year. I expect the remaining speaker to stop recharging soon, and when that happens, it will all go in the trash. If you use it less than several hours a day, or if you don't need the speakers to work at a distance(it works fine in the charger without being recharged) it is not a bad little system for the price. There might be speakers out there that are more reliable for recharging and keeping the charge. I have not looked yet because I can listen remotely with one speaker for the moment. Overall, the sound is good, reception throughout the house and yard is good, but the lifespan of the system is not.
