Pleased, With Small Gripes.
I searched and compared projectors for a long time before settling on this one. I need a highly portable, easily set-up, projector for slideshows, movies, presentations, and the occasional killer gaming session. I'm not using it for home theatre or anything high-tech. Disappointed

I searched and compared projectors for a long time before settling on this one. I need a highly portable, easily set-up, projector for slideshows, movies, presentations, and the occasional killer gaming session. I'm not using it for home theatre or anything high-tech. So far I'm very satisfied. It's easy to set up with basic electronic A/V knowledge. It's less confusing than other projectors I've worked with, and the A/V mute and instant on/off are particularly handy. The remote does just about everything too. My big problem is that it has USB connectivity to a computer, Plug-n-play!!, but only for PCs! As a Mac user I was frustrated that it did not say ANYTHING about this in the specs until I opened the box. Especially frustrating is that earlier models seemed to have good connectivity with Macs, so I don't know what happened. However, no biggie because it still connects with the component cable, and even to my iPod with the help of the iPod A/V cable. All-in-all a good purchase, especially for the price.

I got this projector for use on projector cart for the K-8 school where I work. The ability of the device to turn on quickly, to identify the correct video source, automatically, and to shut down quickly is really valuable in an environment where harried teachers may not always be patient enough to follow instructions. Easy setup, easy switching among devices, a bright image even in a partially lit classroom makes for a great choice. We have two other Epson projectors (Epson PowerLite 77c 2200 Lumen Multimedia Projector) which are nearly identical to the EX30 except for the larger number of interface options including HDMI.
The short throw of the projector does mean that the cart needs to be pretty close to the projection surface. This can be inconvenient on a cart because the projector needs to be in front of the students, but we have small class sizes, so this is not a major problem. As a ceiling mount, this is an ideal solution (our ultimate goal is to have projectors ceiling-mounted in each classroom).

I purchased this projector for our company and have used it several times now. The picture is great, from close and further away. It has been easy to use and the instructions were easy to follow (although I have some experience with using projectors). I would recommend this product to others in business or for home use as well.

After my high-end Optima finally died after six years of unreliable and shaky service, I struck out on my own (without my AV savvy friend) to find a projector to replace it. I first brought home a Samsung L220...it was promptly returned as the image would not fit my screen ( due to no optical zoom) and the image quality was poor.
Because this Epson does not have optical zoom either (its only downfall), I lucked out with the throw distance. Needless to say, I was amazed when I saw the picture quality, ease of use and, most of all, the price!! My Optima was $4000 (yes, three zeros) and this projector beats it hands down any day. It operates at a whisper and the picture quality is stunning for a unit this price. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a great projector for a home theater, but not wanting to pay the unjustified price of the high-end models.

This is a good starter projector for those who just want to show movies or do presentation. I am using it mainly for watching movies and I have it connected to my DVD player and laptop for watching movies and songs form utube. Overall I am preety happy with the purchase as this fits into your budget perfectly and also shows you the quality of the video that you DVD player will output. All in all a good buy

I bought this projector just a few weeks ago maybe a month and half ago. Its great I use it to watch movies and play xbox on it. To play xbox I suggest getting a HD VGA coard and theyre pretty cheap off of ebay so thats no big deal. I have noticed that the projector gets really hot and the exhaust is extremely hot thus heating up the room, but i mean you can get used to that. My only real problem is that there are no auxilary inputs thus I cant hook speakers up to it directly so I had to buy a series of connecters to make that work. If you're by yourself the speakers in the projector rock theyre awesome, but since I do a movie night every friday night outside I have to some speakers that pack a little punch. Overall this product is awesome, im sure the 1k+ projectors are better. BUT for the money youre spending on this I dont think you can find anything better

The projector was easy to use and lightweight to carry. It hooked up easily to a VCR and pc computer. Only 2 drawbacks: 1. Sound could be louder for classroom sized room with 40 - 50 people; and 2. USB did not work with my Mac computer; I had to procure a pc laptop for my presentation.

We thought this projector seemed a good value and had really great customer reviews so we felt confident about getting it. I don't think we took enough consideration in looking at the resolution. We were very disappointed when we tried it out. The resolution wasn't that great and the image wasn't as detailed as we wanted it. It was also hard to see in a lighted room. But the biggest problem was fuzzy spots that appeared on the projected image. We called Epson and the customer service rep after walking us through some tests and asking some questions determined that the lens was probably scratched or had dust inside it. The lens did look like it was scratched. Because we were disappointed in other things besides the scratches we returned this project and got another one with a higher resolution and more lumens for a higher price. The second projector was SO much clearer - much more detailed and brightness. In this case, I'd say that spending extra money was worth it.
