5.0 out of 5 stars Great treadmill, loving it!
*Review is for Sole S77, essentially the same machine, but not folding.*

I got my S77 about 2 months ago, and have used it constantly. It is quiet at anything under 10mph, changes speed and incline fairly quickly, and has quite a long running surface. I am 6'2" and 250lbs, and it has no problem handling me.

There are a few things to keep in mind...

3.0 out of 5 stars Questionable electronics, November 25, 2009

I'm on my third console in 3 years not to mention the fact that I've had to replace the circuit board, front roller assembly, elevation motor assembly, and the wiring cable to the hand controls. The pulse sensor is useless. I do the maintenance on it religiously since I use it so much. Sole has been good about sending the replacement parts but when the warranty runs out I think I'll sell it and try another brand. The console is $369.00 and most are now rebuilt. It's great to run on but the electronics scare me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great treadmill, loving it!, April 23, 2009

*Review is for Sole S77, essentially the same machine, but not folding.*

I got my S77 about 2 months ago, and have used it constantly. It is quiet at anything under 10mph, changes speed and incline fairly quickly, and has quite a long running surface. I am 6'2" and 250lbs, and it has no problem handling me.

There are a few things to keep in mind when looking at the S77, though.

1. The fans blow, and I don't mean air. If you must have airflow, set a fan next to the treadmill and point it at yourself.

2. The speakers are not audiophile quality. They do, however, play music from an ipod, etc. just fine, and plenty loud. You are 15" away from them, it doesn't take much.

3. Hill mode is different than what I expected. It is not a bad thing, just different. On most gym treadmills, i.e. Star Trac, etc. you set a speed, and Hill mode adjusts the incline only. On the S77, you set the MAX speed, and the speed and incline are adjusted together, not always linearly. I ended up liking it better, actually.

As far as emulating normal Hill mode, it is quite easy. Set the program to Manual, choose your speed. Then, use the GIANT incline buttons to select your incline manually, changing it every so often. I am a clock watcher, so regular increments come easy for me, and I don't mind doing this myself.

TLDR - Great treadmill. Awesome treadmill. Consider it fanless, though.

OH YEAH! Yes, the assembly was quite easy. However, have a friend available to help you lug this around. Everything is light, except for the motor/running surface, where 95% of the weight resides.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only one (minor) problem that was insignificant overall, June 5, 2009

Very, very good product. Only thing is, the "STOP" button broke and fell into the console after two (2) days. Fantastic customer service, though, sent us a new console in a couple of days, no hesitation at all. I am sure it was less expensive than attempting to have someone come out and replace the button, as the mounting housing was part of the interior of the console. All said, I would rate a 96 out of 100. Program choices, including two customized programs for User 1 and User 2 (in addition to other programs), plug in for sound, fan, capacity, speed, incline, and easy-to-understand instructions for use and assembly make this a superior choice. The assembly required is minimal and a 12-year-old could (did) follow the instructions. Worth every penny (and yes, it was a fair number of pennies).

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy it, January 28, 2010
By M. Jackson (Seattle) - See all my reviews

I run 25-40 miles a week and have run several marathons. Living in Seattle, I struggle with training in the winter when it is dark and rainy and with a 2-year old son I find the only time I want to run is when he is sleeping. That being said, I decided to pull the trigger on a treadmill that was sturdy enough for running yet didnt break the bank (like a landice). I settled on the sole F85 after months of research and now that I have used it for 4 months I feel qualified to write a review...

First of all the thing weighs a ton (300 lbs actually) so it is worth the extra money to have it moved unless you have at least 3 strong (adult males- no offense) movers to help you. That being said, once it is set up it feels like a tank. This is a high-quality treadmill that feels every bit as sturdy as any of the treadmills I have used in a gym. It is moderately difficult to put together but not impossible and took about 45 minutes.

The ride on the deck is perfect. Not to hard and not to soft or bouncy. The controls on the arms are a must if you plan to change your speed frequently (such as when using the heart rate monitor function and included chest strap which I found to be moderately accurate. The console is great and so far I havent had any problems with the electronics as is described in some of the negative reviews.

Overall the motor, the warranty, the overall quality of this machine is top notch. The only reason I give it 4 stars is the weak little fan! Like other reviewers, it would be so easy with such a big motor on the rollers to just plug it in to make it a decent fan! Such a small thing but had to mention it and it is the ONLY thing wrong so far.

Happy running

5.0 out of 5 stars No problems in over a year., January 16, 2010
This review is from: Sole F85 Treadmill (Sports)
Purchased my F85 in November 09 to train for my first marathon. Since then I've put 56 hours and 387 miles on it without any problems. The deck is quiet and flexes enough for a comfortable run. Speakers are fine for listening as you run, and it folds up into a relatively small footprint. It is easy to move around, even on carpet. I am very happy with this tread.

Pros: Easy to move
Sturdy and flexible deck
No problems in over a year of ownership.
Speakers are fine for running.
Quiet
Cons: The dual fans are worthless. Do not expect anything from them, and you will still be disappointed.

A worthwhile purchase, and I finished Pittsburgh in 3:47. Not bad for a first marathon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good performance and easy to set up, October 31, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Runs great as advertised. Price was in the range of what you would expect for a good home treadmill for running. I was a little worried about having a 380 Lb. packaged delivered to my door, but it worked out just fine. Had the box placed in my living room, cut it open, read the assembly directions, assembled and rolled it to its home location, without assistance....and it did start to run when the key was inserted. No special tools are required to assemble. Have a broom handy to sweep up the belt dust and start off slowly, because it's not like running outdoors.

5.0 out of 5 stars incredible treadmill!!!, March 23, 2009
This review is from: Sole F85 Treadmill (Sports)
After years of using treadmills at gyms and in others homes, I wanted find the right model for me. I'm 6'5";265 pounds and an avid jogger/runner. To keep it simple, this unit is tough, powerful and long enough for someone of my size and work-out schedule. In my research, I was shocked at how many machines were not made for avid jogging/running. This is by far the best bang for my buck! Great machine, outstanding warranty...

5.0 out of 5 stars just as good as everybody says it is, July 19, 2009
This review is from: Sole F85 Treadmill (Sports)
We did tons of research on treadmills, and Sole got hands down the best reviews. People were telling the truth--it is great. Works for me, a 150-lb woman, and for my 260-lb 6ft1 boyfriend. Also, my mom called customer service for something, and a real live English-speaking person answered the phone. Hooray! Seriously this products is great. The treadmill weighs an absolute ton, but is very sturdy and great. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Treadmill, November 7, 2008
By James Gunthrie (Murphreysborough TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sole F85 Treadmill (Sports)
After doing a ton of research on treadmills for months, this treadmill had everything I wanted. The number one feature which led me to this treadmill is the hand controls on the rails to increase and decrease speed and incline. You do not see a lot of treadmills with this feature. I am the kind of person that gets bored easily but not with this treadmill. The display is incredible and very well lit. Very quiet motor - I didn't even have to turn up the radio. Super smooth riding belt. I also love the 20X60 belt. What more can I say except it was money well spent! Sole - Thanks for the wonderful treadmill!

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd NEVER buy another Sole treadmill, September 9, 2009
By Djmpr "djmpr" (Cleveland, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sole F85 Treadmill (Sports)
We've had our Sole F-85 for 4 years now and it's been a huge disappointment, especially given the pricetag. But since Sole has refused to refund our money ("sorry, your one year warranty expired 4 days ago") or replace the one we have, we're stuck with it. We've had numerous repairman here over these years to fix the same ongoing problem....the belt will just come to a dead stop while we're running on it. Not only is this dangerous, but being treadmill-less for lengths of time is quite aggravating particularly since we shelled out $2,244 for this piece. It's needed a new board (the treadmill's CPU) for every year we've had it (seriously, it now needs a 4th), although we've maintained it (lubricated it etc) exactly per the owners manual. My husband whimsically purchased this treadmill without researching first which has proven detrimental. Currently, Sole is in the process of sending us yet ANOTHER board, and with it, more repair bills. Obviously, this is our last Sole product.
