I bought this computer directly from Lenovo a bit over a month ago. As a whole, I'm quite happy, particularly because I was patient and by poking around the Lenovo web site, I was able to buy the computer during one of their "special offers" for an additional $200 off. As a result, in the end, I think I got a great price for a very good computer.
My biggest hangup with this computer is that there was a significant delay in getting it to me. Whereas they were supposed to have it to me within 5 days, it took over a month - and repeated phone calls to Lenovo, for me to get my computer. This was quite frustrating since our old laptop was as slow as molasses and we really wanted to upgrade. On the plus side, when I called Lenovo I was quickly put in touch with a customer service representative rather than waiting on hold forever.
I've largely forgotten the poor customer service getting the computer to us. The computer itself is quite quick both in startup and in operating, has ample memory for our purposes (we are not hard core gamers, nor do we use the computer for film editing or similar high-performance needs). It is easy to set up, and for a windows computer, easy to use. The 17" screen is really nice, and the laptop itself is lightweight, but has a nice keyboard and feel that you sometimes don't get with laptops. It comes with most of the software we need for home/casual purposes, and we've already used the photo software repeatedly and found it satisfactory.
I have talked with a couple IT professionals, and Lenovo in general has a decent reputation. While maybe an Apple computer would be better, I also suspect that a comparable Mac would cost considerably more than we paid. That being said, given our problems getting the new computer shipped to us, I suspect that getting service might not be as easy or as satisfactory a process as we'd like. I hope we don't need to find that out.
If someone is willing to put up with these customer service issues, I'd say this is a good computer for the money, particularly if someone is willing to monitor Lenovo's hourly special offers like I did. For the money, I believe we got a very good deal.
