Great for the iTouch!
I bought these specifically for my Ipod Touch, 2G. Sound quality is good, they are basically the standard Ipod ear buds. If you're interested in making Voip calls through your touch, then these are a must. I use them for making phone calls through Skype (using the Fring app). They work perfectly out of the box (and yes, it is hard to open!) I called my husband's cell...

Worked for a month
I bought this to replace my daughter's original Nano 3rd Gen headphones. I already knew that the functions wouldn't work since these were made to work with the 4gen nano's. This wasn't going to be a problem anyway, she only wanted it to listen to her music.
It worked fine for about 2 weeks then it started going in and out on each side of the headphones. Then...

I bought this product initially for my iPod Touch 2nd Gen to use with new iPod Touch Skype application. I am a heavy user of Skype and was missing mobility feature of Skype and mic in iPod Touch. Now both are full filled. I can now receive and make VOIP calls using Skype from my iPod Touch and Apple earphone Remote with Mic. The best part is, I also have a MacBook Aluminum (late 2008), when I plugged the headphone into MacBook, it worked flawlessly. Now I can even control iTunes (volume, paly/pause and track forward only) from the little remote and can use the mic with Skype, Yahoo Messenger, GTalk and other audio related application. Initially I was planning to buy Apple in-ear headphone with remote & mic, which costs $80. Then thought it's not worth it, as by paying $20 more I can buy a Bose in-ear headphone. But this $30 Apple Earphone is really 4 in 1 - Headphone + Remote + Microphone + Spare headphone for iPod Touch. Recommend this product if you have iPod Touch 2nd Gen and/or MacBook/Pro Aluminum. Don't buy it if you have iPod Touch 1st Gen or MacBook white, it won't work.

I got these for my ipod touch 2G and they work like a charm. I needed something that would allow me to use the nike + ipod application AND not having to go crazy about clicking the right controls on the ipod. With a couple clicks you can FFW/RWD a song, pause and +/- the volume. The nike ipod app for the touch needs a little improvement to work as well as the nano did but this headphones help a lot.
ALSO, you can use your ipod touch as a Skype phone with these headphones. Very convenient!

Alas, these earphones did not ship with the second-generation Apple refurbished iPod touch that I got at an excellent price, I had to buy them here, making the traditional Apple earphones that shipped with it a waste.
POSITIVES
1. You get a microphone for recording memos or using VoIP applications such as Skype. If you are traveling, services like Skype provide a cost-free way to talk to friends from anywhere that you can get access to WiFi.
2. Control iTunes playback without pulling the touch out of your pocket. Since the touch does not have VoiceOver, you don't get all the features you get with an iPod shuttle, but you can do this:
* Play/Pause: Click once in the center of the slender control device dangling near your mouth to pause and resume playing.
* Change the volume: Click at the top of the device to raise the volume, at the bottom to lower it.
* Next track: Double-click very quickly in the center. (I found my natural click rate was too slow.)
* Previous track or start of track: Triple-click very quickly in the center. If you've just started playing a track, that takes you to the previous track. If you've been playing it for more than 6 seconds, it will take you to the start of that track.
* Fast-forward: Double-click very quickly the center, holding down the second click. You can usually comprehend enough of the speeded up sound to spot where to stop. Release to play from that point on. It's great for skipping through parts of podcasts that don't interest you.
* Fast-rewind: Triple-click very quickly in the center, holding down the third click. Again you'll hear the sound speeded up but, since it is in reverse, you'll only be able to spot major changes.
NEGATIVES
These earphones don't appear to be as rugged as I might like, but they're built like the standard Apple earphones, and none of those have given me any trouble despite hundreds of hours of use, so I suspect I have no reason to complain there.
My more serious complaint is the color--the usual Apple iPod white that says to all who see you, "I have an iPod. Aren't I cool!" I'd rather we had the choice of some dark color such as black, so what I'm doing isn't so obvious. I don't worry about that leading to my getting mugged, although some do. I think it makes other people less likely to talk with you. It hangs up a "Do not disturb" sign that I'd rather not have.

It worked fine for about 2 weeks then it started going in and out on each side of the headphones. Then about 2 weeks later one side completely stopped working. I checked to make sure that the wires weren't bent out of shape and they looked perfect, just like they did out of the box. I was truly disappointed.

OK, if I had really dug around I would have noticed this before purchasing -- the volume controls don't work with the iPhone 3G (and according to the Apple page I have since discovered, neither does the mic input).
So it's more or less useless to me since the mic and volume control are the two useful features of having a headset with my iphone (I use it to listen to music on the bus, answer phone calls while walking, etc). This seems to be the standard Apple iPhone headset, at least that's available via Amazon -- yet its key features don't work for the largest portion of iPhone users?!
Stupid move by Apple. Avoid if you have a 3G. I know it's at the end of the details about the headset, but I'm sure that I'm not the only one who might guess that the remote and mic might actually work on "Apple Earphones with Remote & Mic"

I bought these headphones for my iPod Touch 2nd Generation and they are amazing. They work great and are perfect for running and making phone calls (VoIP and Skype). They may be a little expensive but totally worth the money!!!

These are expensive, but they work great with the iPod Touch. If you're listening to music, you can quickly decrease or increase the volume, move between tracks, or pause (a great feature if you're a frequent traveler and need to quickly pause to hear an announcement on a plane). Out for a walk or run? Set up your playlist and leave the iPod in your pocket. Don't like the song that's playing? Just reach up to the microphone/controller to go to the next track.
Want to tape a college class, or remind yourself to pick up pizza on the way home? Just download the free "Record" application and you have a built-in voice recorder.
I was initially interested in this product when I read an article about how you can use Skype to make VoIP calls from the Touch. I haven't tried it yet, but reviews indicate that it works well. Sound quality? Same as standard iPod earbuds -- average. If you're an audiophile you may not be impressed, but I'm happy, and they earbuds are comfortable!

I got these headphones as a replacement for my iPhone headphones, those lasted for about 10 months. These only lasted 2 months!
Sound quality wasn't that bad but it wasn't great either, ease of use was ok but after only 2 months of regular use they started acting up. I'd get calls and I could answer them but they couldn't hear me on the other end. I didn't expose them to water, pull them, yank them, twist them or put them in a position where they would become damaged. So, what's up with these headphones! And also, it's not like they're [...] bucks each! For $[...] + I should get some quality in exchange don't you think?
Now I need to replace this piece of crap and get me some headphones that work and last. I strongly suggest you stay away from these headphones if you plan on using them for more than 2 months.
