Superior system -- reasonably priced
I'm not a musical genius. I do, however, believe that I possess above average auditory taste. I spent the better part of a month researching out the exact system to fit my needs: small room (12 x 14), small shelf area, already-purchased-speakers (that I didn't want to replace), easy to install (I'm kinda old), easy to read instructions, a step up from an archaic 20 year...
cd/dvd player problem
I've had the yamaha 730 cd/dvd player for a couple of weeks, now, and although I'm glad I bought it because it's little and allows me to add external speakers to a tv in a small, spare room, I find that I use a separate dvd player for watching dvds because the yamaha 730 (at least the one I have) makes too much noise when a dvd is played on it. In any quiet scenes the...

I'm not a musical genius. I do, however, believe that I possess above average auditory taste. I spent the better part of a month researching out the exact system to fit my needs: small room (12 x 14), small shelf area, already-purchased-speakers (that I didn't want to replace), easy to install (I'm kinda old), easy to read instructions, a step up from an archaic 20 year old system that I really liked until it died, some modern technology (that wasn't rocket science -- remember I'm kinda old) like the Ipod dock port feature (for seamless large selection listening), and the HDMI out for the HD tv that I don't own yet.... In short I wanted to step into the 21st century with something that wouldn't be obsolete in 5 years (I'm hoping for another 20). Also, AM/FM radio was important (not internet radio, but plain old antena reception radio). After looking at Tivoli: extremely expensive for a bit of style and technology, I finally found what I'm looking for. The fellow above who simply says, "oh God" to describe the sound quality is not exagerating. The DRX-730 is everthing I dreamed of and more. The remote is simple, and even though I would also prefer buttons for the radio on the unit, the remote makes it very convenient. So if you think you're needs are similar, I can tell you with confidence that you'll enjoy this system. Remember that your speakers must handle minimum 6 ohms. And there were no anoying "whiring" sounds during CD/DVD playback.

In any quiet scenes the whirring of the 730 unit is very annoying.
The sound that the unit puts out, though, when playing either of my other dvd players (a Philips multi region unit and a Pioneer unit) is fine. Luckily these other dvd players are satisfyingly quiet. The sound is also fine when I use the unit with the tv on regular cable channels.
For those interested in its other features I haven't tried them.

At the begining I was planning to buy a Onkyo Bose bundle system 2.1 channel for the staying room, however, I began to search around some other manufacturers and found this Yamaha DRX-730, I choose to buy it without the speakers, I bought speakers separately (JBL ES20BK) I received them this week end and ohhh God it is a really really impressing system, the sound is cristal clear or clearer jaja, I believe Gracie, should send back the system to be checked because mine does not show that annoying sound, yesterday I watched Ironman, and now I am watching Terminator 2 and both movies look really really good and the sound, oh my God, I really recomend this system to you if you are plannig to use it in a small room...

We purchased a Yamaha DRX-730BL through Amazon.com dealer Dependable Resource. The first unit was defective out of the box and Dependable Resources shipped out a replacement. The replacement model was also defective right out of the box! We shippped it back requesting a full refund. Either Yamaha has no quality control of these products that are manufactured in Malasya, or Dependable Resources purchases known "seconds" from a NY or Asian clearing house.
