4.0 out of 5 stars Feature Packed
This set is a bit small, but man, is it a looker. It features a built-in HD tuner for digital OTA reception, HDMI & Component connectors for hi-def media players, as well as an SVGA hookup to perform as a computer monitor. The speakers sound a bit "tinny" as could be expected, but the volume can get up fairly loud.

And hard to tell from the pics here, but...

4.0 out of 5 stars Feature Packed, February 21, 2009
This set is a bit small, but man, is it a looker. It features a built-in HD tuner for digital OTA reception, HDMI & Component connectors for hi-def media players, as well as an SVGA hookup to perform as a computer monitor. The speakers sound a bit "tinny" as could be expected, but the volume can get up fairly loud.

And hard to tell from the pics here, but its cabinet and screen have a nice looking glossy finish. The only downside is that is does have a somewhat narrow viewing range (though it has a tilting base). Otherwise, a great little unit with an excellent price tag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatility for a great price., April 2, 2009

In searching for a unit that worked as both a computer monitor and TV, this came up. After reading all of the Amazon reviews, C. Hobb's review was the clincher. I received my Coby HDTV yesterday and it's everything the positive reviews said it was. It works great as a TV and computer monitor. Hook up was a breeze. It's exactly what I was looking for at a great price.

The screen on this "TV" is highly prone to glare and ambient light reflections. Worse than that, the viewing angle is so limited that moving your eyes off axis just a foot or two (whether up or down or side to side) will cause the picture to go negative like it was shot in infrared. To add insult to injury, the included stand is not capable of tilting to a downward angle, so you can't place the TV higher than your eye level without getting the "negative" effect.

But the real insult is that the TV will NOT respond to any other manufacturer's remote control. If you've got a Verizon Set Top Box, there is no way to control the Coby with your Verizon remote. None of the remote codes work. Do a Google search on "Coby TV" and "Remote Code" and you'll learn what I wish I'd known before I bought this cheap piece of junk. You're stuck with using the ugly little grey remote that came with the Coby and if you lose that then you're screwed. If you have a STB, that means it takes two different remotes to turn your TV on and off and control its volume, while your STB remote changes channels. How retro is that?

So don't be penny foolish. Cough up the extra dough and buy a better TV than this COBY.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Viewing with Audio Delay, May 12, 2009
I bought this for the kitchen and never dreamed that this TV could be so bad. The shiny black screen reflects every window and light in the room (almost as good as a mirror).

The viewing angle is just bad. Side to side you only get about 50-60 degrees. This would be ok if you hide this in a corner, but I have it in the center of wall. In about 80% of my kitchen the picture is inverted or not viewable. Even worse is the vertical viewing angle. I have tilted the screen down as far as it will go and if you sit at the table, then the screen is not visible.

Most of my problem with this TV is with the audio video alignment problems. Not noticeable at first, but over time it started to bug me. I finally figured out that the audio was about 1/10th behind the video. This was not every channel, not all of the time. It would come and go. As I started to pay attention to this problem, I noticed that audio could be as much as a 1/4 second either before the video or behind the video. Most noticeable on the big network's digital broadcast (they are using 1920x1080i or 720x480i). I have other digital signal converters and dvd recorders that do not have these delay problems.

This has been returned as a defective unit, but I think that Coby just used cheap electronics. I wish I could select 0 stars for this review :-<

1.0 out of 5 stars not my best buy, to say the least, March 27, 2009

Picture is low quality, but the reason I sent it back was that the remote only worked intermittently. That implies a low standard of quality control.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Small Digital LCD, February 18, 2009
I shopped Walmart, Circuit City, and Best Buy - they had nothing close to this - a small LCD with Digital, with numerous A/V input connections. Good picture quality and sound. Very light weight. And a very good price! Only downside - it's made in China, I'd prefer to buy American.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please, save the money for something better, or get a used one from a reputable brand, May 19, 2009

I will return this one back tomorrow, and swallow the shipping cost. The main complaint, other than the poor picture quality (I expected that with this brand and cost), is that if you live in a rural area, and if you can only rely on antenna, you are doomed with this machine.

As people use antenna may know, each channel has it's own antenna angles. That is, you switch the channel and adjust the antenna. With this TV, it only accepts pre-scanned channels. That is, it scans the whole spectrum with one antenna orientation, save the channels and done. Yes, it is convenient. But after that, you cannot do anything to it. You cannot "enter" a channel (such as 7.1) when the channel number is not previously saved. You cannot try to adjust the antenna to tune in a channel that is not previously saved first. HOW STUPID IS THAT?

But if you have cable service and want to take this one, yes, you can. But for anyone in our situation, please, try something else. Our Sony is much better to allow us enter any channel number we want and it tries to tune in. Even the digital TV converter works better than this Coby TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coby 15-inch LCD - TFTV1524, June 12, 2009
By Jim S (Royal Oak, MI United States) - See all my reviews
Great little LCD HDTV especially for the price. By far the best price I found online and at the local retail level.

I checked specs. for several HDTVs before buying, including substantially more expensive name brands, and they were the same. No, I never had the chance to do a side by side comparison so I can't speak to that.

Screen: Crisp and clear but, like most/all LCDs, still not as bright as the old cathode ray tube monsters that essentially no longer exist.

Sound: Yes they're small speakers but it sounds at least as good as my old 32" monster especially when you adjust the treble, bass, surround sound etc. to your liking.

Mount: Easy mounting using an industry standard VESA wall mount. A table stand is also included.

Use: Straight forward on-screen menus for setup and use.

In box: TV, remote, RCA cable pair, table stand, directions (which really don't offer much but the onscreen programming is fine)

Recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad screen quality, April 5, 2009
By T. Taylor (Denver, CO USA) - See all my reviews

The screen quality of this TV was pretty bad for a flat screen - both from a direct point of view and particularly from a side-angle view (very bad). In fact, the screen quality was the reason I ended up returning this TV and don't plan to purchase a Coby ever again!

I needed a good quality TV for a small space and this Coby is working out fine. I have cable and my WII attached to it and have played DVDs on it as well. I am very pleased with the value for the price.
