5.0 out of 5 stars Great Hepa Filtration unit
I bought this due to my allergies. I run it on turbo when im not at home and med in the room I sleep in. I fully intend on getting another one for the downstairs. It has an odor sensor and remote control. I can tell a difference in the air quality and I have to dust less. 1.0 out of 5 stars Squeaky noise from BOTH of two that I bought new!
I don't know how well these clean the air, I only had them 2 days. I couldn't stand the chirping noise that came from BOTH of them that I bought. It's not very loud, but I had one positioned behind my couch in the living room and one behind my bed (both had ample circulation). I really liked the idea of having them both be so quiet, until about 18 hours into operation,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Hepa Filtration unit, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Electrolux EL490A Oxygen3 PlasmaWave HEPA Air Purifier, Black (Kitchen)
I bought this due to my allergies. I run it on turbo when im not at home and med in the room I sleep in. I fully intend on getting another one for the downstairs. It has an odor sensor and remote control. I can tell a difference in the air quality and I have to dust less. The 3 types of filters are prefilter, true hepa filter and plasmawave technology which means it kills bacteria and viruses with an electromagnetic field. I was happy to get such a nice volume filtration unit at a low price. It is light and fairly slim and really pumps the air through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shhh...I've got a secret!, February 28, 2010
This review is from: Electrolux EL490A Oxygen3 PlasmaWave HEPA Air Purifier, Black (Kitchen)
This air purifier is very nice. it really moves the air on turbo. It does make a little "crackling/hissing" noise coming from the Plasma generator but nothing overwhelming.

Now for the, Shhh....secret
If you do a little research, you'll notice the Electrolux and Winix both use "PlasmaWave" Technology (same company...maybe) That being said, The Winix 5000 filter cartridges fit this purifier perfectly because they use the same body. The only difference is that the Electrolux does not have a dust sensor. So, you can find the replacement cartridges for pretty cheap on auction sites. When you put the 2 together, you get a $400 air purifier for under $150!!!!! (minus the dust sensor) Make sure the cartrige is for the Winix 5000. NOT the 5000s or 5000b. those will not fit, they are too small. Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, clean air, November 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Electrolux EL490A Oxygen3 PlasmaWave HEPA Air Purifier, Black (Kitchen)
One word describes this product: Outstanding. We have it setup in a rec room in our finished basement. We seldom have windows open and during the summer months have to run a dehumidifier. Consequently, we get a lingering "stale air" smell. This unit runs whisper quiet and adjusts its speed automatically. Often, we turn it off over night and just let it run during the day and evening hours. It's been one of those, "what's not to like" purchases.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a difference!, January 19, 2010

This review is from: Electrolux EL490A Oxygen3 PlasmaWave HEPA Air Purifier, Black (Kitchen)
I purchased this unit after reading the reviews, especially the amount of energy it used. It has really made a difference in my breathing quality. We heat with wood, have two dogs and a cat and I have environmental allergies.
Needless to say, I was always stuffed up, sneezing, etc. This unit does an amazing job of clearing smoke, dust and odors from a room. It is very quiet when in the automatic mode. It's light weight and looks good in the room. I have no regrets about my purchase - I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Air Purifier!, January 18, 2010
This review is from: Electrolux EL490A Oxygen3 PlasmaWave HEPA Air Purifier, Black (Kitchen)
I've had this unit for almost 2 weeks now and very satified with performance of this air purifier.
Wait for the deal and you can purchase this under $110 shipped. This is very good unit for such very low price. Its very quite (very important factor), remote control, auto function is just great. I leave it on Auto mode and it runs 24/7 without making much noise. I noticed a significant dust reduction on our rooms. I stronly belive that this will help some of allergy symptoms my kid have. There is no dust sensor but you can't expect that from this price range. Very good for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars EASY FIX FOR THE BRIGHT LIGHTS, April 13, 2010
This review is from: Electrolux EL490A Oxygen3 PlasmaWave HEPA Air Purifier, Black (Kitchen)
I have a pretty easy fix for the lights that looks clean. Remove the front and locate the lights. Tape a small piece of heavy white paper (I used 110 lb cardstock, but notecards will work) over each light area. Pop the front back on and there you go! The lights are muted enough to see during the daylight but also will not cast shadows in a dark room.

Great product... Quiet and efficient.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very High Performance & Quiet!, April 7, 2010

I really like this. It has lowered the overall odor in my home and completely eliminated the pungent odor from daily hookah smoking from my dining and sitting room in about a month running on auto-mode. The 5 speeds it has goes from a soft soft whisper up to a bit of a roar and the amount of air it moves is noticeable too. I've been using it for a nearly 2 months now and believe it's very effective. I have a chronic low level sinus issue where stuff in the air can really bother them and many times don't breathe well at night and wake up very fuzzy-headed, but in the first week of having the 2 different Electrolux purifiers in the house I wake up feeling alert and clear-headed now. I certainly didn't expect that! There are so many fake air purifiers out there and I did some homework on the technologies to weed out the fakes and reading reviews to weed out the ones with issues.

I researched and shopped around for the best purifier at a reasonable cost and this is it in my opinion. I'm a senior electronics technician of over 25 years by occupation in the fields of medical and telecom equipment and good at understanding how technologies whether electrical or mechanical works.

I'm very skeptical about the claims they all make and there are so many of there are so many of these too good to be true purifiers that work by magic or seem to be really leading edge sophisticated technology that's not so much. Honestly when I started educating myself on air purifiers it got confusing. I spent many hours over a month or so looking at all the different makes and trying to eek all the science out of each one. These Electrolux units I think are solid and clean the air with a simple 3 stage process instead of 6 to 9 steps and the extra maintenance and cost that would entail to do maybe as well as this one. I think that this unit does as well or better as some of the ones that go for $500 or more.

This Electrolux is well worth the money if you have a larger area with it's ability to move a lot of air and it's CADR specs are impressively higher than some of these high priced things that rate half as good and do little more than a walk-in closet. Between the HEPA filter and the PlasmaWave ionizer it scrubs the air of everything and it's cool how it senses when the air needs more cleaning and steps the fan speed up to clean more and gives an indication on a 5 segment display. Mostly I just leave it in auto mode and it adjusts as needed to the air quality. The air in the house is not only dust free as in I never see anything floating in the air through the sunlight or a lamp, but the overall odor that the place had has been much neutralized. It does a great job of eliminating cooking odor even if I don't use the kitchen range exhaust fan.

I've figured out that these Electrolux units are built on the same chassis as the Winix 5300, Sharp Plasmacluster, and possibly the Rabbit BioGS. Seriously go look them up and tell me they aren't based on the same unit! But all have wildy varying ratings and prices and the brute performance and low price of theElectrolux makes it for me the cream at the top.

I can't think of anything to ding it on; the quality seems very good and the construction is solid. It's very good and still gets a 5 star over the months I've used it and have highly recommend to my friends. I'll revisit this review later and update it from a longer term perspective.

I also have the EL500AZ that I use downstairs. It's an even more effective unit with an even higher CADR rating, does about 80 sq ft more space for twice the price. My overall impression with this one as well is superb especially for a large area!

4.0 out of 5 stars Minor annoyances, January 15, 2010
By C. Gale (Harrisburg, PA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Electrolux EL490A Oxygen3 PlasmaWave HEPA Air Purifier, Black (Kitchen)
I bought this for my 2nd floor bedrooms, to help alleviate certain odors. Overall the product works great, it does the job and really helps the rooms have fresh circulating air in them. The positive features include 4 operating speeds which includes a quiet mode, for those people who like silence when they sleep. It also has an odor detector, remote control, and replace filter light. Also it is great on energy consumption, which was a big factor in my decision on what model to buy.

The negatives list is very short but also very important. The LED lights on the display panel are very bright. That might not seem like a negative, but when you turn out the lights and climb into bed you might notice your whole room is glowing blue! The other feature that I wish was available on this model, is a timer, not that big of a deal since you can buy outlet appliance timers.

All in all if it wasn't for a no-light feature, it would be a perfect HEPA Air Purifier.

5.0 out of 5 stars I must say I'm impressed!, May 6, 2010

This review is from: Electrolux EL490A Oxygen3 PlasmaWave HEPA Air Purifier, Black (Kitchen)
The unit is looking good (piano black) and designed very well (I'm stating it having engineering background). It's VERY-VERY quiet and powerful! The reason I'll emphasize few points here as people who wrote previous reviews either did not read user manual or do not understand basic engineering designs.

1. Right out of box the unit goes in full automatic mode (three fan speeds, EXCLUDING turbo mode). Level one and level two are quiet enough to fall asleep. Level three is somewhat noticeable louder but definitely not loud!!!! Level three is quite powerfull and good/quiet enough to be in living or family room without distracting from any activity (like watching TV, etc...)

2. For the night time you MUST select Quiet Mode. It will force the fan to the quietest mode and it will DIM front panel. Some one complaint about lights are being too bright at night - they are only bright in auto and turbo modes, and not in Quiet mode!

3. Some one mentioned that intakes are too small. Quoted: There are only four tiny slits along the front cover". Well it a basic design used in any vacuum cleaner - small intakes creates huge vacuum suction!!!! This unit will pick up and clean very large particles like pet's hair, etc... AND WILL NOT LOOSE SUCTION over time, when filters gets covered with dust. It also intake air from the bottom!

4. And last but not least. Turbo mode is quite loud but meant to be used during the parties, when loud and people are smoking, etc. or when no one around during the day. I put my device in this mode when I'm going to work. It produces as much air flow (I would say "wind") as my 12,000 BTU air conditioner and definitely cleans room very well from dust, pet's hair, lint or any other large particles in the air or on the floor (light stuff, of course).

The remote is very basic, quite comfortable in size and does everything needed.

Hope it helps. Definitely recommend!

This machine transformed the life of my little kitty with asthma. I can't believe the difference in our home air. I sleep better and will never live without a home air purifier again.
