VERY COOL!
Great fun for my 5 year old grandson. He plays with this all the time, loving the color changing cars. It involves hot and ice cold water, which is easily spilled, should be set up on an easily cleanable surface. All in all, a great toy for a child who loves Hot Wheels.

This toy is useless
This is the worst toy my son has ever had. The color changing car works great, but the waterfall is impossible to set off and runs out so quickly that unless your timing is perfect, you'll miss it. The blaster only works about one out of every five times, making it even more difficult to change the car under the waterfall. We've never achieved it. I am actually offended...

I am actually offended that Hot Wheels is selling this. I don't see how ours could be defective considering how wide-ranging the problems are.

Doesn't do what its supposed to, but still a little fun, November 11, 2009

The waterfall that's supposed to change the color never makes it on time. SO that never works. However, my son still thinks the toy is fun.

This toy is awesome - Don't believe other reviews, December 25, 2009

I really debated as to whether or not to get this for my son for Christmas after reading the two poor reviews on this site. However, he wanted it so I bought it. Let me tell you, this toy is awesome! The waterfall works great. I don't know if the other two reviewers got duds, but my sons works great. He giggled all afternoon watching the cars change color as they jumped through the waterfall. My only recommendation is to use ice cold water in the water fall chamber as this makes the car change color faster. Highly recommended.

Believe the bad reviews!, April 4, 2010
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Hot Wheels Color Shifters Custom Color Shop (Toy)
This toy is probably the worst toy my 3-year-old son has ever received. So bad that I am taking the time to write the FIRST product review of my life. His grandmother gave it to him this morning as an Easter gift thinking it would be a quality toy considering the Hot Wheels name. I grew up with Hot Wheels, and we have several of the other Hot Wheels toy sets, and they are all great. But I can not believe Mattel released this one for sale. Like everyone says, the cars are fine. Ice cold water changes the color, and warm water changes it back. But the "Custom Color Shop" is useless. The launcher is a bad design. You have to smack it down with exactly the right amount of force so that it passes under the waterfall at exactly the right time. Too little force, and the waterfall empties and the car doesn't make it up the ramp to hit the water. Too much force, and the waterfall empties but the car slams into the track entrance, or jumps the track. Each time it doesn't work, you have to fill the ice water tank and try again. Some of the other sets have rubber-band powered launchers. I think that would solve the problem with this toy because it could be designed to exert the correct amount of force each time so that the car will shoot up the ramp at the correct speed to hit the waterfall at the right time. Anyway, after playing with this toy for about 15 minutes, and probably 10 attempts, we got it to work as advertised one time . . ONE TIME! Fortunately we were able to see how it is supposed to work, and when it works, it is cool, but it is too frustrating to keep refilling the tank and keep trying it over and over with a slim chance of it working. And yes, as you would suspect, water DOES get everywhere. Shame on Mattel for tarnishing the Hot Wheels name with this piece of junk.

Big dissapointment, March 22, 2010
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Hot Wheels Color Shifters Custom Color Shop (Toy)
The track is too fragile, the car did not change color and the launcher works every one in ten tries maybe.
Not worth it. I did not get the car to go under the waterfall once.

Disappointed, November 29, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:

This really was a disappointment for my son and I. The release button to launch the car only works once in a while and usually misses the waterfall, which changes the color of the car. The color changing cars are great, but this product is definately not worth the price.

Hot Wheels Should Be Ashamed!!, April 24, 2010
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Hot Wheels Color Shifters Custom Color Shop (Toy)
I bought this son for my 4 year old. He cried and complained about it from the time I put it together until the 30 minutes it took me to put it back in the box from whence it came. For starters, the car that came w/the track was too big to fit in the hot/cold compartments. It was extremely difficult to get the car to launch off the launcher as shown on TV commercials and advertisements. You know its bad when your 4 year old screams "take this toy back to Walmart" This gadget was a HOT MESS!!!
I suggest that you by your child the individual color changing cars, get you some cups of water or put some water in a sink, and have a blast. Plz don't waste your time or the gas it takes to ride to the store to buy this toy.

Great buy, January 7, 2010
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Hot Wheels Color Shifters Custom Color Shop (Toy)
I am very suprised at how well this Hot Wheels works. I have learned over the years (having a 9 and 6 year old boys)that they really like the idea of the Hot Wheels sets but then get bored right away because it never works the way the commercial shows! Wow, this set works. I also bought extra cars for a total of 4 cars and they all change color perfectly. Very cold water works best but warm works fine to change color back (water does not need to be hot). To cut down on water mess, this is also a fun bath toy, although I don't recommend putting the dryer part in bath (there is a fair amount of metal).

Disappointed, December 30, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Hot Wheels Color Shifters Custom Color Shop (Toy)
My son, who is 6 almost 7, received the Custom Color Shop for Christmas and 3 color changing cars. I got around to setting this toy up for him this morning. The set-up is easy enough. The cars are cool and the kids love seeing them change color.
The custom shop however is useless. The launcher only gets the car around the loops 1 out of every 5 times. Which is frustrating by itself. But then you add in that when you hit the launch button the waterfall is activated. The waterfall has to be reset before you try to launch the car again (which means pouring water back into the tank). My son and I had to reset the waterfall three times before the car ever launched properly. My son has to hit the launcher pretty hard to get the car to jump the track and I suspect it will break within the hour.
The waterfall is activated when the launch button is pressed (slammed in our case). By the time the car gets around to the fall the water is already gone. Unless it misses the ramp and falls into the blue water bucket the car won't get wet.
The part of this toy that should drop the car into warm water doesn't work for us unless I rig it.
I could have saved myself $30 and a big water mess by putting out a couple of bowls of water and letting the kids play with their cars in them. The kids would probably have had more fun than this toy has provided.
