Cool Toy but Kids Lost Interest Fast
This is a cool toy that walks around, makes sounds, chomps and responds if you press one of the sensors on it. I am only giving it four stars because my kids, who really like dinosaurs, lost interest in this after a week or two. When they do play with it, they don't turn it on. Overall it is well made and has held up well. The outside is made of a cloth like material...

Nice quality, kind of boring.
My in-laws bought this for my son's third birthday. He's pretty cool - makes lots of sounds, has a lot of different trigger points to get him to activate, is well made and durable enough to take the abuse of the average toddler. The only problem is that this toy gets boring really, really quickly. We changed his batteries thinking that maybe he was walking so slow due to...

This is a cool toy that walks around, makes sounds, chomps and responds if you press one of the sensors on it. I am only giving it four stars because my kids, who really like dinosaurs, lost interest in this after a week or two. When they do play with it, they don't turn it on. Overall it is well made and has held up well. The outside is made of a cloth like material which is soft. It looks a lot like a t-rex but the feet are really big. We paid about fifty five dollars for it.

This is a LONG review, but well worth your time.I thoroughly researched between Monty Rex, D Rex and Spike the Ultra Dinosaur, for my 2 year old son, and by far, MONTY REX wins hands down. I want realstic features, sounds and movements, but VERY tough and durable material and robotic bones. D Rex is cute, but the latex like skin is so fragile, and the demo dino's skin was peeling off. Upon close inspection, i can see glue seams, and i just know it wouldn't hold to continual use, and hard core treatment. My 2 year old will pick up this toy by the skin, and i can see it just ripping off...also, I think a 2 year old could have fun with D rex, with his reactive sensors, but controlling the other features with the remote would be to advanced for him...My opinion, D Rex is too fragile and complex for a 2 year. D rex is my next favortite, but for older children. I would still be cautious of the skin and battery usage. Next, Spike the Ultra Dino. I really liked this one at first, but during my research of other dinos, he fell to the very bottom of my list for my PERSONAL reasons which are: TOO LOUD. too big, could be too scary. not very realistc to a dinosaur. looks more like a dragon to me. lights down the back are kinda cheesy. remote controlled. maybe a 2 year old could use the remote, but i think it's better for a 3 or 4 year old. also, many reviews about the robotic mechanisims breaking. my 2 year old son is VERY rough with his toys with no intention...non the less, must withstand a 2 year old boy. Spike is also the MOST expensive. and i think he looks like 3 dinos morphed into one. Not my fav anymore. I will add about a dino, Pleo, that i found. If your pocket can dig deep enough for $350 yes that's right, $350 dollars!! This dino is the cute, sweet dino, who responds emotionally, and is like an artifical intelligent dino robot. The smallest of these other dinos, i've read reviews about it's skin being very fragile also. Finally, after tossing back and forth between the above...Monty Rex wins! Santa is delivering him to my son on Christmas, so we haven't played with him out of the "box" but we have played with him several times at the store. The dino is in test mode, and in "box" but we touched him, and saw what he can do...if he's this great in a basic demo mode, i know he's gonna be awesome out of the box. He's TOUGH and durable. I tried to bend and pull open the mouth, and it felt strong, and not very breakable. The skin is a tough, soft material, with textile textures like scales. His tail is strong, and will withstand many pulls. He also roars when you pull his tail, as if you're hurting him. He puuuurrrs, if you rub his chin, maybe not very "dino" like, but cute for a 2 year old, he sniffs, he walks, he wags his tail, and i like that he is more preschool like than the other dinos in the sense that he plays music. I really think this is the PERFECT dino for a 2 year old. Srong. Realistic. VERY Interactive. He has just the right look that a t-rex should have, with just the right touch of "softness" for a young toddler. And my son, just loves to play with him. He cares for nothing else in the store than MOnty Rex..and when we leave...the cries this boy screams sounds like his soul has been ripped right from his chest! We LOVE MONTY REX!

My in-laws bought this for my son's third birthday. He's pretty cool - makes lots of sounds, has a lot of different trigger points to get him to activate, is well made and durable enough to take the abuse of the average toddler. The only problem is that this toy gets boring really, really quickly. We changed his batteries thinking that maybe he was walking so slow due to not enough juice, but no dice. He walks around a dozen steps in a space of a couple of minutes, traveling around a foot total. My son has only had this toy for 24 hours and has already lost interest in him unless we prod him into playing with it.

Great Dino, Lots of fun, November 22, 2009

My husband and I bought this Dino for our twins son's birthday just yesterday. He turned 3 and he loves it. Also, our older boy who's 5 is in love with it. I think there may be a second one of these under the Christmas tree next month. We've only had it for 24 hours, but it's one of his favorite toys. I'm a little bit worried about how long it'll last with my kids, but I guess time will tell. The dino roars back at us when you roar at it. The longer you 'talk' the longer it talks in return. It also plays some 'dino' music which is really cute when it walks. It also purr's if you pet it's chin. Overall, a VERY cute toy, worth the money. I'd recommend it for any dino lover.

I bought this toy for my 3-year-old son for Christmas. He hasn't received it yet but has played with it at the PX for countless hours already so I know he's going to be thrilled that he now has his own MONTY-REX dinosaur.

I just got Monty Rex and I love him!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is the best toy ever. He is very durable and cool. And I love the color red.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love how he walks and talks.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All my other stuffed animals are so scared of him. I think everyone should have one. I am six years old and I am a girl!!!

One of my son's favorite toy, August 9, 2010

When we first got this, my 2+ year old son was intrigued but scared. The former feeling prevailed and within 2 days, he was playing with it endlessly. We've had the toy now for 8 months and my son still comes back to it for a few minutes almost every day. He shows it off to all visitors and all the boys (up to age 6) want to check it out. It seems quite life like in terms of it's stomping walk and roar. My husband likes to show others how it sneezes (not sure if that's what it's really doing but it seems like it). It's obviously a slow moving creature so you'll find my son either on his stomach making the dinosaur do it's stuff or standing next to it stomping along. Very durable.

My 3 year old got this for his birthday, and just loves it. Its his pet, which is a big deal because he's allergic to all "real" pets!! They both play with it, and it makes my husband and I laugh too. Great toy.

My 5-year-old son got this for Christmas and fell in love with it. It's big, fuzzy, moves and makes noise, and is actually cute-looking(dinosaurs aren't often "cute"): it's like a pet. He has lots of dinosaur toys but this is by far the most fun for him. It was rather expensive (I got it before it went on sale), but worth it. It seems plenty durable- nothing has broken or gone wrong in the two months that he's been playing with it. Also, this is a dinosaur toy that I think little girls would really enjoy, with it's fuzziness and cuteness.
