Excellent toy at the sale price
I bought this bionic eye at its full price $40 last year, that was after I almost paid $400 for a similar system at LA science museum. I think it well worth it if you plan to introduce some basic science knowledge to your kids at home.
Having that said, as the other reviewer also noted, my 4 years old showed little interest. It's tricky to focus and hold...

it actually is a pretty decent video microscope. you view on your TV. the trick is to get it focused on the item you want to look at. I spent a few hours total playing with it. The kids spent maybe 5 minutes...

Having that said, as the other reviewer also noted, my 4 years old showed little interest. It's tricky to focus and hold the sensor steadily so that you have a meaningful image on the TV screen.
They know have a second generation item which comes with its own LCD display. I bought that too, immediately, but it still sat in the box after about a year. I am still waiting for my child to develop interests and curiosity in exploring unknowns.
At today's sale price of $5, it definitely worth every penny. I am going to buy a few to donate to daycares in the area.

love it love it, December 18, 2009

Ideal toy for winter time. You can sit inside and zoom every thing to your big screen TV. Any thing like Ants, buttons, hair can be viewed in vivid detail. Love amazon for the super single digit pricing. Very easy to use, hook up the set to the TV and start using it. There are few cons, it doesnt work well in dark. You will need good light in the room to get all the details properly. You can use a torch or a book light to augment your room light to get good picture. I wish it had a SD card adapter to save the files, I can use my PC capture card to save the video out.
If you find it again on Amazon at sale prices grab one. From the day it arrived in our house it has been a perennial favorite. Moment the kids the see a new thing in our house they want it to be zoomed and researched thoroughly. Cut paper, carpet, towel every thing... goes through this one first before being used for any other purpose. Loads and Loads of fun.

Lots of fun, easy to use, and educational, too!, December 26, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:

We received both a traditional microscope and this Bionic Eye for Christmas, and we haven't even opened the microscope yet! I know that we will, but for now, the Bionic Eye is so much fun! The detail is so alarmingly clear that you can literally examine a skin mole using it! A hair on your arm looks like a thick piece of pipe! We looked close-up at a dollar bill, coins, food, little cars, etc.
We got it for a really great price (single digit price, not sure if I'm allowed to say here how much or not?) and it was a great purchase. Highly recommend it!

I purchased this for a close friend's daughter and it turned out to be the only toy if you can call it that - that she continues to play with and learn things at her young age. Great for the parents too.

Stuff looks pretty cool blown up on the TV but I liked the other version with the LCD screen better, which of course I gave away as a christmas gift. got this one as the price was good and wanted to have once when I played with the once I gave away.
only thing i dont like is that it takes 5 AA batteries to use it. If you are using it near your tv why not have an AC adapter?

Hours of fun!, February 18, 2010
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Eyeclops Bionic Eye SE (Toy)
I bought this for my 7 year old grandson for Christmas. He really likes it, and he is entertained for hours. It is amazing what things can look like magnified that many times, especially when viewed on a big screen TV. My 13 year old granddaughter really liked it also, I wish I would have bought her one also.

should have paid attention to the neg. reviews., February 14, 2010
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Eyeclops Bionic Eye SE (Toy)
Most disappointing purchase I've made in yrs. What's w/the +++reviews? I can't imagine any child playing w/this for more than a few minutes. It's difficult to get focused on completely flat objects(book, $bill), forget about magnifying anything that's not. Even with optimum focus colors bleed & image is poor(even for a toy). Magnification's strong but of little value w/such bad picture. This toy should come free in a box of cereal. Save your money & get something else. The Digital Blue microscopes are 100% better.

My son loves using this to look at anything he can find. It's simple to use and fun to show kids that everything is made of smaller things.
