4.0 out of 5 stars SSD very good
this is very good drive. I ran this drive under vista with optimizations, but it runs better under XP(without page file and no optimizing). This is on an Asus N10 Netbook. The real random access transfer rate is about 18mb/sec. this is less than what is stated, but still very good.

Vista Timings

HDD win startup 48 sec
hibernation...

1.0 out of 5 stars misleading advertising-returning.
The ad says the "elite series" which is a total different model than this. In addition the published specs differ greatly than the pkg. What I rcd reads.-240.1MB/sec seq read. 160.8MB/sec seq wt. Random read=102.1 and write is 23.2(QUITE A DIFFERENCE FROM WHAT'S LISTED)
I feel like a bait n switch hass been pulled and I paid 369!! Anyone would be pissed.

1.0 out of 5 stars cheap quality..., January 12, 2010

Product Link: Cavalry Storage Pelican Elite Series 64 GB SATA II 2.5-Inch Internal Solid State Drive - SLC performance at MLC pricing - CASD0064P2

After reading the review given by various customers, i thought i have made a good decision on buying the Cavalry Elite SSD, but not...

(1) The over all build quality looks like a cheap quality one.
(2) Does not exactly fit into the laptop HDD compartment [XPS M1210, had to remove the brand label from from the SSD and apply force to push it into the HHD compartment.
(3) After installing the OS [Win XP] i observed that the BIOS does not always detect this SSD [no bootable device found]
(4) Produces lot of heat than traditional HDD's.
(5) Though i haven't checked the actual performance of the SSD yet, but looks like there will not be much difference between the traditional HHD and the SSD.
(6) I am not sure whether i received a Pelican or Pelican Elite SSD, the package had the label of Pelican Elite SSD but the SSD Label read Pelican SSD [which is much slower and available at lower cost]. Should be a Elite SSD as the Mini USB port on the SSD is missing.

On the whole this product is definitely not worth buying if you are looking for performance enhancement.

5.0 out of 5 stars sweet spot, April 2, 2009

i purchased this and a caxe37500 to upgrade my laptop. i figured 128gb would be enough to run my OS and some other key programs. i must say that i'm VERY happy with my purchase. the ssd cuts my boot times by more than 1/2 and although i haven't tested an SLC ssd, i'm quite confident this product would measure up any day. despite the price being so high compared to traditional notebook drives, i couldn't resist buying. i've been reading so much about ssds and i thought, what the heck, i'm paying for better performance, no noise, lower heat, and lower power consumption. thanks to amazon for the fast shipping and great packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Performs great -- For a soild-state this drive rocks!, June 28, 2009

I wanted a drive that could be plugged in 24-7 with low power consumtion and no moving parts to break down. Since I intended to use it to record satillite programming, I needed a drive fast enough using USB2 (using a drive enclosure)to record HD quality that I could later burn to DVD on my PC. Standard USB thumb drives simply are NOT fast enough reading or writing to maintain the demanding HD MB per second required for stable "no tearing" picture.
Adding this drive to a laptop as a second DATA drive would be great BUT I caution a person that makes this a main "bootable" drive because as fast as this drive is--it still is slower the a disk based drive. Everything depends on the application you have in mind. Remember, always research!!!!

I've always heard about hard drives going bad but this was the first time I experienced it. First, several apps starting crashing which is when I figured some sectors were going bad. Sure enough a few hours later, kernel panic. It then wouldn't start up. Bummer. I love the SSD. They truly are worth it for the speed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Fast SSD!, June 26, 2009
I bought this drive to replace the hard drive in my VAIO laptop, and I couldn't be happier. My computer boots up SO much faster, and access times are noticeably cut down. It's like going from a 56.6k modem to DSL!

The drive is light but feels very solid. It also doesn't spin like my old hard drive did when I read files, so there's no noise, and I think that helps my laptop's battery life too.

Get this SSD! Cavalry made a great product here, no complaints here.
