Great simple fax machine!
This is a great little machine for what it's worth. I purchased from newegg for $49.99. Easy setup, small footprint. Copies could be a little better, but for the price, they are actually pretty darn good. Speed is pretty good too. Maybe the only small problem is the price on replacement ink cartridges ($30.00+), but one should know that going into the purchase of this fax...
Not so hot
It is a plain paper fax... yes. This machine will not interface with my multi extension phone system and answering machine. I must leave it off; and turn it on only when sending or when I know I will be receiving a fax. If it stays on all the time, it answers with fax tones on every type of call (fax calls and voice calls).

This is exactly what I was looking for. I just needed a simple fax machine for my home office. It's small, so it doesn't take up much desk space. And it's super easy to use. Love it, love it!

My old fax was still working, but it seemed like It was getting paper jams every other sheet. It also didn't have an attached phone.....so when I saw this one and read the reviews, I thoguht I'd give it a chance. Not only that, but I got one heck of a deal via Amazon.com and one of their suppliers. I was offered through BUY.COM for $28.99 and they were including FREE SHIPPING!!! Maybe they had a special, because I see the price is back up. Anyway, got it within 5 days of ordering it via UPS. Set up is a breeze. Ink that comes with it is MINIMAL... so if you do a lot of printing, buy another cartridge right away. After reading the instructions, I FINALLY DISCOVERED WHY I MIGHT HAVE BEEN GETTING PAPER JAMS USING MY OLD MACHINE..... It's the paper!!! I typically use Office Depot or Office Max 113 or 115 brightness grade/ 24 pound paper which has a very smooth surface. IF YOU DONT "FAN" YOUR SHEETS BEFORE YOU PUT IT IN THE HOLDER.......THEY TEND TO STICK TOGETHER AND WILL JAM THE MACHINE!!! I tried that technique with my old fax machine......and presto.....no more jams!!! I could just kick myself. I guess it pays to read the instructions.
Anyway, It does an OK job of producing copies...Not as sharp/crisp as my old Canon Fax/Printer/Copier. So if you're using a poor copy to begin with, what you copy from that will be worse. That's why I gave it 4 of 5 stars. I just dont think it will be good for someone having to print or copy graphics or photos. Phone has a good "sound" to it. Other down side is there ins't any paper catch.....so you need to set it on wide table to catch what comes out.

Received yesterday, and set up easy. One thing I did incorrectly was try and reuse the old telco mounting cord, different type, use the new cord. I wish it had, besides a tray for receives, is auto self redial on a busy signal. Smaller than my old machine, like that.

It's a bit 'high end' for our home fax use, but H/P 2140 was on sale. It's simple to set up, easy to use and the H/P free dial-up testing is a big help. No need to use a friend to see if the fax is working. Over-all we're very pleased.

Have had this machine for a few weeks now and use it often. It is perfect for sending documents, etc. to and from Doctors or Businesses that require a FAX or that can not send you an e-mail due to confidentiality rules. The only drawback that I have found is the included ink cartridge is only a starter so I had to buy a regular one. It should last a very long time but HP could do better by including a real one with the FAX. Had one like this at my office and it never gave any trouble so I purchased it to use here at home. The quality is excellent on the output print and the features are all useful. It does not have a "received tray" but a cardboard tab to catch the incoming FAX under the machine does the job if it's on a shelf. On a table or desk, that is no issue. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone needing a home FAX machine at a reasonable cost. Just go ahead and bite the bullet and buy a regular cartridge when you get it and you're done.

The fax machine itself is easy to set up and use, but at this two person office, we hardly ever send or get faxes anymore, and the ink cartridge still ran out after about 6 weeks. Probably 20 pages printed. This is unacceptable to me, since the cartridges cost $30 each. I would not buy this machine again for this reason. Our operating costs are going to run $250/year for a $100 machine.

This is a great fax machine. It's sleek, and compact, making it easy to place on any desk. It's made by HP, people known to make printers (in fact, my current all in one printer is by HP), so you know you're getting a good fax machine. The price! It's one of the main things that drew me in! It's so darn cheap for what it is! Ok, perhaps this isn't a high end office fax, but for home, this thing is near perfect! It even uses printer ink cartridges which are easy to buy and find, instead of those fax printing films that are expensive and can be found in certain places. Not to mention they print real quick; receives and sends faxes in a instant, while keeping quiet! Now for the cons. The fax can only hold 15 8.5x11 standard papers. That may seem a bit on the low side for some people. Also, it has a small LCD screen and a few buttons for system navigation. This perhaps maybe very frustrating. Especially for those that aren't on the machine/computer literate side. Lastly, there's no answering machine. I suppose this is optional, but I was so use to my old fax machine having one, that I was kinda disappointed to find that this one didn't have one. Overall though, it's for home faxing, I must say, this thing is a steal
