5.0 out of 5 stars Nice USB drive
Huge capacity for such a small USB (it's smaller than I thought, which is great). It comes with a lanyard that can be unattached on the USB-end, which can be convenient. I haven't used the features with a CD that came along with it, so no comment on that. The only negative side of it, I think it takes longer time to save files than my old USB.

4.0 out of 5 stars Transcend 4 GB USB Stick - Not Bad At All, June 18, 2008
By Mark "Technology, Music and Movies" (East Coast) - See all my reviews
(TOP 10 REVIEWER)    (VINE VOICE)    (2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)
Transcend flash memory sure is becoming more common these days. This is a nice USB stick, somehow smaller in your hand than the pictures show. The small hole for attaching a ring or lanyard is very small but well designed into the body.

As far as the Jetflash software is concerned I have simply reformatted this guy and I am not using it. It wasn't terrible, but I have no need for it. I am not a fan of Sandisk's U3 software and this stuff isn't changing my mind (actually has less in terms of features). Once again, it worked ok, I tested it once just out of curiousity. But ultimately, I'll stick to copying and pasting files to this guy and using a seperate software for encryption.

As far as the price, you really can't argue with this. The value is great for the capacity. While this guy is slow, all my USB sticks are slow. Till something faster comes out, it's a good idea to just get the biggest drive you can.

This guy has one of those caps that is easily lost if you're not careful. The SanDisk 4 GB Cruzer Micro USB Flash Drive with U3 (SDCZ6-4096-A11) has the advantage of the retractable USB connector so you never have to worry about the cap. It does run about 10 bucks more though.

As far as reputation, Transcend still has a track record to establish. So far so good.

Good luck with your new memory stick.

Enjoy.

I have tried it on other PCs & laptops, and am able to use the ports with other flash drives, so it is definitely a problem with the drive. For the month it was working, I absolutely loved it, it is extremely fast. I don't know how frequently those that have given this drive great reviews were using it, but this is the first drive I have ever had that has completely failed to respond, and as I said, I was using it for multiple hours daily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great, very small, November 29, 2008
This drive is quite zippy and very small. It plugs in and just works.

The encryption and security software are optional so you do not have to have it on your drive.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it is very easy to lose the cap.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice design, reliability questionable, August 31, 2009
I really like the design/styling of the Transcend JetFlash V30. The color coding for memory capacity is a nice touch, nothing new, but helpful. As beautiful as they are, they do scuff up quickly.

Speed wise, no complaints. Reasonable performance for price. They seem to be at least as fast as my OCZ Rally2, which claims to be fast.

My biggest concern is reliability. I've bought 2 and 4 GB versions of the JetFlash. I've checked both regularly with Apple's Disk Utility prior to storing data on them and both have required minor "repairs" twice in under a month. This is troubling as I haven't used them a lot and the most physical abuse they've experienced with being carried in a shirt pocket.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow to write small files, May 10, 2007

It's fast at reading all files, and fast at writing large files, but slow at writing a large number of small ones. It took me over 1 hour to copy abt 500kB of small files.

I left a msg with techsupp on their website months ago but heard nothing. Yet, I found other users on their website with the same complaint. Not sure if other mfgrs do much better, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars JetFlash V30, March 23, 2007

I'm very impressed with this drive. I had originally bought a pair of 256MB drives in order to back up private information. I realized I needed more room to store my files on and decided on a 2GB Drive. Because of the price I ended up buying 2 of them and keep one on me at all times, the other is stored at home with files I don't keep on the PC.

If you're looking to buy a drive, you can't go wrong with this one. It's small, comes with a handy strap necklace that can be detached near the drive and the hole in the drive is small and very secure. It also comes with some great software including email, favorites, password protection and much more!

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap cost, cheap materials, cheap quality., November 11, 2008
When I first got the item I thought the materials used and overall feel were "cheap", but for around $10 I wasn't complaining. But then, less than a week after getting it, it stopped working. Two different PC's and my PS3 would not recognize anything on the drive. Windows would detect the USB device when connected but would not recognize anything in the device so I couldn't even try to a format. $10 should have bought me more than a 1 week worth of use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Caveat emptor, December 24, 2008
This drive was a huge disappointment. I bought it some months ago because it was on sale, opened it and let it sit. The first time I tried to use it - NOTHING. Tried to format it, and even though it shows up in Explorer as "Removable Disk", formatting fails with a "There is no disk in Drive G:" "Insert a disk and try again". No recovery software, no fix software, no help on the Transcend web site, and a manual that appears to have been written by accident.
BUY SOMETHING ELSE!
