3.0 out of 5 stars Beware: digital tuning only
Ok. I love this TV and I wanted to keep it. The main problem is that when used with my cable it only sees digital stations because it is an ATSC tuner only. I compared this side by side with the Haier 7" and the Haier could tune in my cable company analog and digital stations. The Viore is only digital so no analog stations came in. 4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised, June 12, 2009

I wanted to replace my old portable TV with a digital one. I tried out one from Best Buy about a year ago and ended up returning it a few days later. I took a chance on this TV and was surprised to find also had a USB and SD slot capable of playing MP3s, Photos and Movies including Divx and Xvid. TV wise it picked up everything in my area and even has an electronic program guide. Picture is nice for SD stations, HD stations are ok considering this is not an HDTV. Sound is pretty good for the included speakers. Not much bass but you can't really expect tiny speakers to boom. You can plug in headphones if you want better sound. The buttons on the unit are simple and easy to use. There is also a remote you can use if you want to control the TV at a distance. As a TV it does a good job. As a media player I was surprised how versatile it was. It played everything I threw at it and the video looked great. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Pros: Good picture and sound. Plays DTV and other Media. Unit allows for software upgrades so the company can constantly improve the functionality. Antenna cord is fairly long and has a magnetic mount. When there is nothing on TV you can always watch other media via USB or SD card.

Now here are the cons. Battery life is only about 1½ hours and there is no way to tell how much charge is on the battery. The USB port is a mini port that requires an adapter (included) to plug a USB stick into the unit. While the unit does come with a kick stand there is no way to mount it to a tripod or base. The unit only comes with an AC adapter so if you want to charge it in your car you need to buy a DC adapter.

Overall it's a good little TV/Media Player for around $100

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly High Quality TV - A Best Buy, September 1, 2009
By J. Turner (Dublin, OH USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
The Viore PLC7V95 TV has exceeded all my expectations. Read all the reviews for this TV as well as those for other portable TVs such as the Axion, Haier, New Digital Image, Supersonic, etc. None of these units had a 4½ or 5-Star rating. As a small portable digital TV, the Viore is suprisingly high quality with excellent performance for such a low price. Similar units that I found elsewhare were in a much higher price range of $150 to $350.

I have a policy of not buying any electronic unless I am able to discuss it with the manufacturer's tech support staff. This TV is now on Viore's website and its tech support was very responsive and easy to contact. None of the other vendors such as Axion, Haier, New Digital Image, etc. would respond to my emails or phone calls. The only exception was Tivax which was responsive.

Pros:
* LCD screen resolution is very high for a 7" portable TV. The Viore (1,440 x 234) resolution has a pixel density that is 3-times greater than Axion's, Haier's & Tivax's (480 x 234). Although not HD, its resolution is outstanding.
* Viewing angle horizontally is wide . . easy to view when off to either side.
* Station reception. This has been a consistent problem for many users. I played with the antenna and its location and found that it is more than adequate. Proper use requires extending the cord its full length since it is part of the reception capability and locating it where there is less interference. When not properly position, I could not get any stations. When positioned at full wire length and near a window, I received 10-digital stations which is double of what I supposted to get according to signal strength ratings. When connected to my TV cable, I was able to receive all digital stations.
Note: Digital TV has a weaker signal than analog. The digital mobile TV standards are still being established. Within the next couple of years we should have portable TVs available that are truly mobile.
* Full functioning controls similar to my Samsung HDTVs . . screen and sound adjustments, etc. wheather using the remote control or controls on the unit.
* Has an excellent electronic program guide that provides actual programming by station.
* Both the USB and 3 in 1 card reader work as expected for pictures, videos and sound. Just need to have your files in proper file format.
* Although stereo speakers are small, the sound may be adjusted to avoid sounding tinny. I just maximize base and minimize treble. The sound is very good with earphones.
* Battery duration. The specs say it has about a 90-minute charge for portable use. I got about 100-minutes. My main use is as a desktop unit using the AC adapter.
* Battery recharging is relatively fast with a red light while charging and turns green when fully charged.

Cons:
* Car adapter is not supplied; however, I had one from an analog portable TV and it worked well. You can buy one for about $10 from RadioShack.
* Remote control is acceptable; however, it has a relatively narrow angle of view. I use it as my primary control since it is easy to use and fully functional. Once you realize is limitations, it works well.
* The kick stand cannot be adjusted for verticle angle of viewing. I resolved the problem by buying a small attractive display stand for about $4 locally. Now I can adjust the viewing angle as I want. The small display stand can be purchased from Amazon.com. It is a Gibson Holders "1 Pl" with a clear plastic base and a white plastic coated wire support.

Highly recommend the Viore as an outstanding buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steal of a Deal!!!, July 2, 2009
This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
I purchased this unit and I wanted to share a couple of observations with those of you trying to decide what to buy.

- Picture quality was really good

- I like the USB and SD card reader functions (this is really nice and I didn't see this option on the other 7" units on Amazon)

- Remote control is nice not high end but it works just fine

- Sound was pretty good. I really didn't expect much but I was impressed

- You have to remove the plastic protective film from this unit. I noticed a couple of other customers complained about scratched screens and I thought I might have the same problem but when I took a good look at the TV I noticed the protective plastic cover and once I removed this everything was good to go. They probably should have put a little tab that said pull here or something.

- I was able to get several channels so I thought the reception was pretty good

I gave it 5 stars. Good little TV and it looks like it will do what I need it to do. Oh yeah, make sure you go to the menu and scan for channels. You have to do this in order to find channels using the antenna. I hate reading manuals but I really didn't have a choice when I first set this bad boy up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware: digital tuning only, June 21, 2009
This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
If you are going to use without cable or you don't care about analog, it is a great TV and I recommend it. I just wanted to get as many stations as possible as my cable company still has analog plus digital. One other thing about the TV that is painful is that the cable connector is recessed and it makes it hard to get a cable connector screwed onto it. But you probably only do this a little so maybe it is not a big deal. The digital tuner does do a good job getting rid of no-op stations. The Haier did not do very good getting rid of no-op stations. I ended up returning this just because of the no analog support. Picture quality is good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 7" TV for the price!!!, June 16, 2009

This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Portable LCD TV with Built-in Tuner Purchased this unit to use around the house and for emergency situations. The screen is very clear and the picture is pretty impressive for a 7" TV. You can also watch movies from an SD card or USB drive which makes this unit very functional. I was able to find about 12 channels with the external antenna and I was very surprised at how well this piece worked. It isn't going to replace a much larger TV but if you want something that is portable to watch while you are cooking, grilling, etc. this is a great unit. I have two labs and I can be outside with them while they play and still watch TV. The price is also better than the other units on amazon. I was so impressed that I'm going to purchase one for my dad for father's day. Thanks amazon!

3.0 out of 5 stars Partial Mea Culpa - Amended Review, June 24, 2009
By G. Olson (Lake Oswego, OR USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
I ordered the TV as a gift to give, and when it arrived in an unsealed (Viore not Amazon shipping) box, I was immediately concerned. Upon examining it, like yO "yobridge12" , I found the TV was badly scratched. My assumption is that it was used and returned merchandise. Because of the damage, I returned it the same day for a replacement. The TV itself seems to work well with an impressively sharp picture and good volume for such a small device.

Amendment:

I had complained, as did others, that the TV arrived with a scratched screen. It actually came with a thin film over the entire front of the TV, instead of just over the LCD, as I expected. Hopefully others can now avoid my embarrassment. It did, however, arrive with a broken antenna.

It appears that the cord that comes with the included antenna functions as a major part of it. Without extending the cord (as is mentioned in the manual) reception is poor. In this respect it operates similar to FM radio reception on many MP3 players.

With a simple set of rabbit ears (from an old analog portable TV) I get all 22 of the local digital channels. Need to rescan after swapping antennas.

Playback of media on an SD card worked well: music, photos & video. Note "Super" is a good (free) PC utility to convert formats. I used avi as the container, divx as the video format, and mp3 as the audio format.

It also works with a 12v car adapter I already have.

Overall I'm very happy with this TV. I'd now give it 4 stars if Amazon would let me change the rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this TV w/ SD card reader, June 30, 2009
This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
I was looking to replace an older portable TV that had stopped working with the digital transition so I decided to purchase this unit. I have been pleasantly surprised with the picture quality. I really like that it has a built in SD card reader and the ability to play media from a USB drive. The antenna is external and has a magnetic bottom and seems to work well. I noticed that the number of channels I was able to receive really depended on my physical location. I am sure would be able to receive additional channels if I purchased a better antenna but the one that came in the box seems to do a good enough job for me. I would recommend this unit to others and I am glad I decided to purchase this particular device. There are a lot of 7" TVs to choose from but this unit looked the most attractive and I seemed to have lucked out.

Couple of Pros and Cons:

Pros
Picture quality is really nice, SD card reader, external antenna ( I was told by a buddy that the units with an attached antenna do not get nearly as good of a signal), remote control, pretty easy to scan for channels, battery life was about 1.5 hours (not too shabby).

Cons
I did not like how the cable jack on the side was recessed. This is not a huge deal but it makes it a little difficult to access.

Conclusion: Good picture and nice little portable TV

4.0 out of 5 stars A cool little TV, August 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
First the good stuff... I acquired this Viore PLC7V95 7 Inch TV to pass the time when we lose power in South Florida. Like all digital TVs the picture is really pretty good. It is not HD of course, but it will receive HD stations and display the picture on its wide screen. One thing that really impressed me is the TV can make almost every adjustment my Samsung HD TV can make. It even has a signal strength meter which really comes in handy with the little antenna that came with the unit. The remote control is full function. Why there is even a remote control at all is a good question because most people will watch the TV with it sitting on their lap and you can easily make adjustments using the buttons on the TV. It did not come with a cigarette lighter adapter so it can be run off a car battery, but I found one for sale at Radio Shack that cost only $9. I can also hook it up to my PC UPS system using the supplied transformer.

Now the bad... This particular unit appears to have a problem with the SD card and USB inputs. The USB input doesn't work at all and it will not play any movies on an SD card (it does display JPG files). I'm hoping the Viore support will resolve these issues shortly, otherwise I'll be forced to return it to Amazon. One thing the TV will not do automatically is adjust the aspect ratio to match the TV signal. A button is provided for that purpose. Another thing it lacks that several competitors apparently have is the means to connect it to a standard tripod. As for the sound, it is stereo but the speakers are about the size of quarters so don't expect to be impressed unless you hook up a good pair of earphones. Finally the instruction manual is a joke. Fortunately most controls are so intuitive a manual isn't really necessary.

4.0 out of 5 stars I think it's a keeper, June 17, 2009
By jeanhs (DFW, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
I bought this at Fry's, a chain of gadget superstores.

My previous kitchen/bathtub/camping/portable/convenience tv was one of those little casio LC 2.5-inch TVs that I really got along with and was quite sturdy. But now it's only digital, so....

My expectations were an optimistic neutral, and not just because I've never heard of the brand Viore.

I continue to be pleased.

I assume I have to be careful with this because it seems a bit more delicate than the previous casio, but perhaps I'm being paranoid and protective, and a bit pessimistic? Maybe not so much delicate but maybe less forgiving? The casing seems sound if a bit heavy and a bit plasticy. Probably not a bad thing at all, though looks a bit toy-ish next to a slick big LCD tv.

The included antenna reception is very finicky, but I sort-of knew to expect that. Volume's not so much, but a bit more than my understandably low expectation. Remote is also a bit finicky which I wasn't expecting. I'm sure there's a trick to how/where/when to aim at what, and I've not quite gotten that right.

It seems to properly detect and display format for digital SD vs digital HD and it has the expected aspect button settings. The picture quality seems perfectly decent, perhaps better. I've really only watched reruns and evening sitcoms. And I only have roof-top antenna (when I choose to connect it that way), so I'm not able to judge it for National Geographic or NFL channel quality programming or whatever. And like all digital TV now, if it gets the signal, it's clear. (Warning: be a bit patient with the finicky nature of portale/telescoping antennas, as always.)

I converted a dvd (one episode of hitchcock TV reruns on DVD) to avi (mp4, too), put it on an SD card, played fine. Finicky about the avi/mp4 format, but that's quite common gadgets of all types. Haven't tested the USB.

It even has the program guide that lists the last several and next several shows of the same channel, not just the "currently watching" sort-of fake program guide.

The battery life seems fair, at maybe 90 minutes? I've not actually timed it. I was hoping for like 8 hours. Who was I kidding?

Another warning: the manual is a wreck, what there is of it. And I don't see this product on the viore website. Surprising but not freakout-worthy.

If it breaks after maybe 1 year I'll probably still think it was a good buy at $99 plus tax. More toy than tool, but that's how I've treated my portable tvs for years.

1.0 out of 5 stars A headache!!, January 3, 2010
This review is from: Viore PLC7V95 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with Built-in Tuner (Electronics)
I purchased this TV from Blockbusters and spent several hours trying to eliminate the constant static that is ever present. The voice quality is good, so if you just want to listen to the FEW stations it picks up, then buy it. The picture is never clear. The antenna is worthless for accessing channels. I returned it to Blockbusters where I bought it. The manager presented me with this poster size rule page stating that Blockbusters would not take it back. I would have to return it to the manufacturer. He did not give me an address. He gave a phone to call. I swapped it for another Viore TV just like it. Took it home and it did not work either. I am sending it back to the manufacturer. Whereever you buy this piece of junk, the store will refuse to take it back. DON'T WASTE YOU MONEY AND TIME ON THIS LEMON.
