5.0 out of 5 stars Bang for the buck leader
I bought this TV elsewhere for $1499 + Tax. At this price I got a 60" Plasma with a beautiful stark look with invisible speakers. Since the ISF Expert options are open and not hidden in some service menu, I was able to calibrate it to my heart's content with the help of a light meter. Once calibrated, this bad boy provided a 3000:1 On-Off Contrast Ratio, somewhat...

3.0 out of 5 stars I'd look for a better one for another $200 but not much more than that.
Considering other units, whether they might be Plasma or LCD or DLP or LED this is just a nice unit for the price. The pioture isn't as bright as higher priced ones, black isn't as black, etc. If your just wanting a good picture for as little money as possible, then this is a good purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bang for the buck leader, August 26, 2009
This review is from: LG 60PS11 - 60" plasma TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) (Electronics)
I bought this TV elsewhere for $1499 + Tax. At this price I got a 60" Plasma with a beautiful stark look with invisible speakers. Since the ISF Expert options are open and not hidden in some service menu, I was able to calibrate it to my heart's content with the help of a light meter. Once calibrated, this bad boy provided a 3000:1 On-Off Contrast Ratio, somewhat inaccurate, but highly realistic colors, 6500 degree color temperature, and a very good 2.12 gamma. This is not a reference quality display, or a PQ leader by any stretch of the imagination. But at a price point significantly below the competition and a picture good enough for a discerning consumer like me, I wholeheartedly love this TV. The price it can be had at is DLP territory for the screen size, while the PQ far exceeds any rear projector.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 60inch plasma for the money, July 1, 2009
This review is from: LG 60PS11 - 60" plasma TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) (Electronics)
First the impotant stuff Yes its a great plasma tv for the money. The picture quality is excellent. On-screen menus are easy and intuitive. The LG actually detects device connection and ask for your input(NICE). One minor gripe would be the internal speakers really wont work as a primary sound source. But since I like most people have an external srs sound system so this is of little concern.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best TV value, period., January 28, 2010
By YarDost (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: LG 60PS11 - 60" plasma TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) (Electronics)
As usual, people get caught up with the hype such as black levels, 120Hz LCD vs 600Hz Plasma, on and on. The reality is that unless a comparison is done in a lab setting, most TVs from reputable manufacturers with updated specs have pictures that are indistinguishable and any comments on them are simply subjective. We bought this TV for $959 as an open box item with full warranty, which is 1 year parts and labor and 2 years screen, and we love it. The picture is bright and colors are accurate. For that price, there is no beating the value of this TV. Best TV for $1500 or less. Of course, as I said, this is just my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it!, January 22, 2010

This is my first HDTV and like everyone else in this type of situation, I did a tremendous amount of research. Plasma vs LCD vs LED? 55 inch or 58 inch or 60 inch? Purchasing online versus at a store?....

It has been a week since my TV was delivered and I like it very much. The picture quality through cablevision is pretty good. I learnt that I did not have to pay anything extra for the HD service. That was sweet. The set up was straight forward and I hooked it up to a 7 year old Sony AV receiver. Similar to other people's comments, I think you will need a home theater or AV receiver for good sound quality.

I purchased the TV at PCRichard for less than [...]. They had a special for [...] which was less than sale prices at online retailers. The lowest price I could find online was [...] last week. The message is that you can bargain at this store. I took a chance and said that I will take the TV if they will give it to me for [...]. And I got about [...] bucks off the sale price plus another [...] off the TV stand. I think its a nice deal. Shipping is free.

Overall, I am pretty pleased with the purchase so far.

I have only one complaint about this television. The screen flickers and I don't mean when I turn it on it starts as dull then grows brighter. At random times while watching it the screen goes dim then brightens back up about five minutes later. It's slightly annoying and messes with my eyes, I wonder if it's a defect or something that is common?

4.0 out of 5 stars Great plasma compared to smaller LCD's, January 31, 2010
This review is from: LG 60PS11 - 60" plasma TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) (Electronics)
If you're looking to pay $1300 or more for this TV then I think you should look elsewhere. If you can get it for less then I would highly recommend it. I paid $1199 for it and absolutely love it.

Pros; It's huge for the price! In this price range you are lucky to get a 50-52" 120Hz LCD. The menus are large and easy to use. After changing the video settings the colors are beautiful and the black is deep. HDMI self detection is cool, kind of like windows USB. I'm using a DirecTV HD DVR and the channels are very nice even at 1080i. Blu ray movies are phenomenal! PS3 games are intense. If you are a sports fan then you want to buy the highest Hz set you can for faster refresh rate and this set is great at 600Hz.

Cons; The main reason for only 4 stars is the glare on this TV, because of the glossy screen it reflects even the lowest light. It's heavy at 117 lbs. The sound sucks but doesn't matter if you're using a surround system like most people do. It could use another HDMI input but once again if you are using a home theater system with HDMI then you can pass through it instead and only need one input on the TV.

Other thoughts; Here's my video settings if you are interested.

1. Turn off the "energy save" feature.

2. Use 'expert' mode:
contrast: 90
brightness: 60
H Sharp: 50
V Sharp: 50
Color: 70
Tint: 0
Expert mode:
Dynamic contrast: High
Noise Reduction: Off
Gamma: High
Black Level: Low (Yes, Low!)
Film Mode: Off
Edge Enhancer: Off
White Balance: Medium
Method: 20 Point IRE
Pattern: Outer
IRE: 5
Red: 9
Green: 0
Blue: 10
Color Management System: All values = 0

Hope you like these

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Nice TV, January 20, 2010

Picked this up at Fry's for 1,099. It was a steal(I had no intention of buying a TV). The picture is great. Stylish look, you cant beat this TV. I also bought the LG 977 Theater in a box. Paired together, they are amazing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blacks are awful on this set, January 21, 2010

I studied this TV extensively when I found out it was on sale at a local outlet, and when I finally went to check it out I was extremely disappointed. I had the chance to buy this for $999 and still passed. The blacks are the worst I've seen, an incredible failure for a plasma TV. Everything else about it was fine, except the TV won't recognize HDMI 2 or HDMI 3 slots unless something is plugged into them and powered up - unheard of in today's TV world.

My decision was based on not settling on garbage when you could save up a few hundred bucks more and get a much better TV from Panasonic or even Samsung.
