Great value! Great picture!
I've had this TV for a 1 1/2 months now and it has been amazing. The picture quality is outstanding - the only way you are going to get better picture is to buy an LED TV, but those have their downside as well.
The built-in speakers are very weak and the audio level sometimes fluctuates a bit. That being said, if you hook it up to an external sound system...
Worked OK for a day, then died.
After waiting a bit to receive the TV (super saver shipping), I scheduled a delivery and it arrived on a Monday. On Monday I hooked up everything and the TV was able to detect the proper ATSC channels (I have a large antenna) for me to receive over the air HDTV. Sound (through my surround sound) was good and everything looked OK. On Tuesday, I plugged my computer into...

This TV works extremely well with my cable box, DVD player and even my Nintendo Wii.
Highly recommended.

Was going to get a phillips tv but was sold out so I looked at the vizio. build quality looked solid and everything worked as it should. Havent had any issues thus far. Only thing that will ever show that the tv was cheaper then normal is the manual with its cheap photos but thats nothing to complain about.
Also to fix the change in volume from the speakers turn off the srs true volume. It tends to over correct the volume and thus creates the random volume levels.

I tried really hard to find a comparable difference between SONY , SAMSUNG, VIZIO on tvs under 800 dollars. I couldn't find one. I stared at all three televisions for 45 minutes straight...not a considerable difference. For the money, you can't go wrong. its the right balance of size, picture quality and price. I hooked up my ps3 to compare the quality between this tv and a 46" xbr from SONY. I was shocked to see that this tv had by far produced a better picture (although the sony is 2 years old). Audio is poor and does fluctuate from time to time. I've had it for a month and cant say that I've seen any green lines or issues. If you wan't a television under 1000 dollars, i would highly recommend you take a look at this vizio. I don't think vizio can hold a candle when it gets to the higher priced tv's, but when it competes in this price range...it excels

This is my first LCD and first Visio. I must say it is all I expected in an LCD. This VT420M satisfies my thirst for viewing movies at home. It doesn't have a whole lot of bells and whistles, but the picture is awesome.

My Vizio 42" HDTV is just the right size for my living room. Picture quality is excellent for HD programs and very good on others. I purchased a Vizio soundbar and sub-woofer to provide a fuller sound, and I am very satisfied with the results. I had planned to purchase a Sony Bravia, but it has a lot more features that I didn't need and didn't want to pay for. I'm happy with my Vizio.

On Tuesday, I plugged my computer into the VGA port, and after a short interval, the backlight went out. I called Vizio support and after I got through to a representative, we walked through a few steps to determine that the backlight was dead and the TV would need to be replaced. He gave me a case number, instructed me to send them an e-mail, and indicated that they would respond in 24-48 hours with instructions on how I could replace the TV. By Friday (60 hours later), I had heard nothing, so I called Amazon to arrange to return the TV and get a different one.
Overall, the Vizio support was fairly prompt, but they did not execute on what I would consider the "useful" part of support. The TV itself was pretty good (decent picture, easy setup), but if the support is that awful, I would not want to see what would happen if there was a problem after the 30-day Amazon return window.
The Amazon support, on the other hand, was quick, to the point, and I have already put another TV on order that will be swapped with my defective one when the new one arrives (all arranged in just a few minutes on the phone with Amazon).

My old Sony Trinitron XBR finally died and I needed an affordable new TV. This Vizio fit the bill nicely. I picked it up from Walmart for $698.
The picture is crisp and clear, no blurring is apparent and black levels appear excellent in our living room. I haven't used the onboard sound so I'm uncertain how that is.
I've had the TV for only about two weeks, but everyone in my home is thrilled with it. It's connected to FIOS HD via a Yamaha receiver that supports HDMI. With the money that I saved, I bought a Panasonic Blu-ray with internet connectivity.
Very easy to setup, lightweight, reasonably well balanced on its stand.

Vizio generally produces a pretty decent LCD television for a fraction of what you would pay for a big name set. However, I have now owned two Vizio LCD sets and have had issues with both of them. The first set, a 37" model I bought in 2006, couldn't toggle between HD and non-HD programming. The 42" Java finished model will produce an annoying vertical green line on the right side of the viewing area when connected to an HDMI source. The picture will also pixelate on the upper edge of the screen when not on an HD channel. I read a lot of online complaints about this model when looking for a fix. Some people complained of an issue with firmware on the HD cable box from the cable company. I checked that out, and that wasn't my issue. It certainly might be part of it, but I just returned the Vizio, bought a Samsung, and have no issues.
My advice, if you can afford to spend the extra $200 to buy a Sony or Samsung, spend the money.
