5.0 out of 5 stars No leaks!
I have been using Avent bottles for 2 1/2 years. With the original bottles (with BPA) we had occasional leaks of a few drops but otherwise we were very happy. When the orange-tinted BPA free bottles came out we got those, and had more leaks. In fact with #2 flow nipples the leaks were unbearable. We called Avent and they sent us 2 of these new polypropylene bottles to try...

3.0 out of 5 stars more parts than it appears.
We bought these because we were kind of tired of all the parts that are with the Dr. Brown bottles, but there's a little ring that goes between the bottle and the lid. Not that big of a deal, but we keep forgetting to add the little ring, thus pouring formula onto our baby as we tilt her back and turn the bottle upside down to feed her... One more part to keep track of...

5.0 out of 5 stars No leaks!, August 20, 2009

I have been using Avent bottles for 2 1/2 years. With the original bottles (with BPA) we had occasional leaks of a few drops but otherwise we were very happy. When the orange-tinted BPA free bottles came out we got those, and had more leaks. In fact with #2 flow nipples the leaks were unbearable. We called Avent and they sent us 2 of these new polypropylene bottles to try before they were even in stores. The top of the bottle is a little shorter and there's an extra ring that you put onto the bottle before you put the nipple on. I have no idea how that helps, but it doesn't leak at all!! As soon as I saw them in stores I ran out and bought more.
These bottles take the same nipples as the other Avent bottles, so there aren't any compatibility issues. The only potential downside is that polypropylene is a softer plastic so over time these may get scratched up.

For our first baby born in July '07, we used (and loved) the original Polycarbonate Avent bottles the first few months. Then the BPA paranoia overtook us, and we switched to Born Free bottles, which are made of honey-colored Polyether Sulphone (PES). The Born Free bottles worked well enough, but we hated the 2 extra complicated parts per bottle that we had to clean. For our second kid born in Sept '09, we wanted badly to switch back to Avent, but read poor reviews of the PES BPA-free Avent bottles (apparently they leaked for many users). Fortunately, right around that time, Avent introduced a second line of BPA-free bottles made of the cloudy Polypropylene (PPE), and initial reviews indicated that Avent fixed the leaks (by adding a simple removable collar between the bottle and nipple). After 1 month of using these new PPE Avent bottles, I can attest that they indeed don't leak, and I don't need to take special care or do any procedure to make them leak-free. They just don't leak. Yes, the newly added collar is an extra part to clean, but at least it's a simple part that's easy to clean. So for all you Avent fans out there, take heart! Avent fixed the leaks. Tip: the leaky PES honey-colored bottles come in yellow-colored boxes. The new leak-free PPE cloudy bottles come in blue-colored boxes. Buy the blue-colored boxes.

There are alot of negative reviews for these bottles. Let me start by saying THESE DO NOT LEAK. There are two types of Avent bottles. 1 Leaks horribly and 1 doesnt. These do not. The ones that leak are the yellow box with golden nipples. These come in a blue box and have clear nipples. These bottles are great and we havent had any leaks yet. AVOID THE YELLOW ONES BUT BUY THESE!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bottle, March 22, 2010

This review is from: Philips Avent SCF683/27 Classic Polypropylene Bottle 9oz, Dual Pack (Baby Product)
I am an exhaustive researcher and buying all the plethora of baby items before our baby daughter was born was no different for me. Of course when it came to bottle recommendations, every friend, family member and health practitioner had their own personal brand that they swore by. We liked the look at feel of the AVENT bottles but the reviews were horrible. They all said these bottles leaked horribly. We took the plunge and bought a couple two (2) packs of the 4oz bottles anyway. We never had the bottle leak, once - ever. The bottles do not have a bunch of loose parts. Just the bottle, the nipple, collar and a small sleeve that goes into the bottle opening. Very easy and fast to clean. The wide and short shape and size of the 4oz bottles make them a joy to use and again, a joy to clean. We usually wash the bottles by hand and run them in the dishwasher from time to time and they have held up great. After three months, no leaks, cracks or discoloration and the logo is still printed on the bottle perfectly.

Recently our bottle started going on a mini-bottle strike, refusing to drink from the bottle. Thinking it was the AVENT bottle we went out and bought a born free, playtex and dr. browns. She hated all of then equally and only drank from the AVENT (after lots of struggling). So we discovered that after trying all the different bottles, she liked AVENT the best anyway.

Keep in mind our daughter never had issued which colic or gas. She's quite good at burping and passing gas on her own so we've been lucky that way :) For babies with colic issues we have been told anecdotally that Dr. Browns are great. But for us, the AVENT bottles have been fantastic and we are glad we took the initiative (and risk) and bought these as our main bottles when my wife first gave birth. We recently bought four 9oz bottles and some 3m+ nipples as she seems to prefer the increased flow.

As others have stated, we have only carefully sought out and used the bottles in the BLUE packaging (not the yellow). The bottles are made of an opaque plastic. Apparently the yellow boxed ones are honey colored and have an additional vent in the nipples that cause leaking.

4.0 out of 5 stars No leaks, but extra piece to keep track of!, October 7, 2009

These bottles are much better than the tinted bottles if you don't mind the extra "adapter" piece that goes around the collar of the bottle. We have two of them (and I just ordered 4 more) and use them all the time. They have yet to leak whereas the tinted bottles leak ALL the time!

4.0 out of 5 stars no leak, better than the previous yellow-tinted bottles, December 18, 2009

we got the BPA-free, yellow-tinted avent bottles as a gift. like 50% of the reviewers said, they leaked like crazy (both 9-oz and 4-oz), and we wasted a lot of precious breast milk. i was really disappointed and upset, b/c the bottles were made of good quality plastic. however, if 50% of the bottles leak, then it is simply a design flaw, and should be removed from the shelves. we called avent and they sent us the new polypropylene bottles to try out. these work great! they don't leak at all, as long as the adapter ring is put on properly (and no need to make it too tight). since it's just one extra piece and relatively easy to clean, i have no problem w/ this design. another thing i like about the avent bottles is that the measurement print is large and easy to read. however, one thing to note is that on some of the polypropylene bottles, the paint comes off after washing a few times. i have three 4-oz bottles w/ no problem, but on two of my four 9-oz bottles (which were bought later), almost all of the paint has been rubbed off due to washing. i guess this is a hit and miss situation. thus the four star rating.

we also tried dr. brown bottle. at first i liked it, b/c it was leak-proof, and prevented air bubbles going through the nipple. but so many parts! (so many small parts too). i pump exclusively, so the extra cleaning of the parts was too much. the avent bottle also does a great job at keeping gas out of the baby. plus, i like the wide bottle design, b/c it's easier to get in there and clean it thoroughly. we also tried playtex drop-ins, i'm not crazy about these, b/c the air still gets in there, and the drop-ins sometimes will break after heating in a bottle warmer. the only advantage i can think of is to use on a trip for the convenient factor.

5.0 out of 5 stars love these, August 22, 2010
This review is from: Philips Avent SCF683/27 Classic Polypropylene Bottle 9oz, Dual Pack (Baby Product)
We had avent bottles with our first they were the bpa kind. i was a little afraid that I would hate these with the one little extra part but I love them! No leaks and they little ring is not a problem at all. Make sure you read the directions I am sure the people who have had leak problems didnt read the directions. You have to put the ring on the bottle first then screw on the top.

We have been using these bottles for 4 months now. No trouble with leaking, easy to clean, especially after I bought the avent brush. The baby doesn't seem to fuss as much afterward either, though that is relative I am sure. They were recommended to me by my lactation consultant because they are supposed to be more like real nipples. I don't know about that but I would recommend these to anyone. Just make sure you use with the right sized/flow nipples.

These are much better than the honey colored Avent bottles! Initially, I bought 10 of the honey colored Avent bottles to start my collection because I wasn't aware of any differences. They are fine, however, I do experience a leak from time to time with them. I also feel like the outside of the bottle feels a little sticky for some reason. But these Avent bottles are perfect - no issues! No leaks and no sticky feel. I wish I had known about these and bought them from the beginning. I bought 4 of these from Amazon and although I still use the other ones (what else am I going to do with them?) I always reach for these first.

FYI - The little booklet that came with these says that you can get more adapter rings from Avent customer service, so I'm going to call them to see if I can get some of the rings for my honey colored bottles... Maybe that will help with the occasional leaks I experience with those bottles?
