cleans the pool perfectly
This is a good product. the only problem is that all of the internal parts are plastic (which don't last long). My last Hayward I used to take apart and relpace parts, such as the A-frame, almost weekly. And the parts are very expensive. So, it cleans the pool beautifully but it is not built to last. And do not buy your replacement parts from Leslie's Pool supply because...

constantly needs repairs, September 28, 2009
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
I have had my Hayward pool vac for about 3 years now. This pool cleaner requires constant maintenance. There are so many moving parts and they all wear out and are quite expensive to replace. At this point the pool cleaner just sits in one spot in my pool. I have tried adjusting the settings, rearranging the hose, replacing the feet and adjusting the pool suction. Its time to replace it and I wish I would have done it a long time ago because I have already spent more than what it would cost to replace with repairs.

cleans the pool perfectly, March 2, 2009
This is a good product. the only problem is that all of the internal parts are plastic (which don't last long). My last Hayward I used to take apart and relpace parts, such as the A-frame, almost weekly. And the parts are very expensive. So, it cleans the pool beautifully but it is not built to last. And do not buy your replacement parts from Leslie's Pool supply because these parts were really poor quality and would last a month (at the MOST) before needing replacement. Hope this helps.

Works for about 3 years, March 15, 2010
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
I've bought 2 of these units. They last about 3 years and after that the many moving plastic parts start to wear out and become brittle. When it's working, it did a great job cleaning both of my pools without getting stuck. It also covered more area than the cheap "tic, tic, tic" style of pool vacs I tried to replace the Hayward with over the years. It's just that there are many $50 parts bags needed to fix it when it finally gives out. The included hose is excellent and I've been using the same hose for almost 10 years.
I'm using a manual vac now, but my pool is a mess. I plan on trying out the Polaris ATV next month.

Great....if you want to clean your drain, October 21, 2009
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
When it is moving, the cleaner does a fine job. The problem is that its internal turning mechanisms like to circle the steep walls on the deep side of the pool. Invariably, it crosses the pool drain where it looses suction and gets stuck. I have set multiple start/stop times during the night just to cause the water pressure to "kick" the sweeper off the drain. Despite that, I get up in the morning and there it is.....sweeping the drain. Don't buy one; even if your drain is a mess, it is cheaper just to swim down and clean it yourself.

Great, but kind of high maintenance, January 2, 2010
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
This is really a great vacuum and the only one that will clean our kidney shaped pool properly. However, as the other reviewer notes there are little parts that need repair/replacement often. On the other hand, given that mine runs on concrete 8 hours/day year round it is probably reasonable that the parts that are in contact with the concrete wear down.

$400 paper weight, July 25, 2010
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
The local pool store said this was the best, so over the years it is all I had tried (two different ones). Thank God I recently discovered the Kreepy Krauly Sand Shark, which is MUCH better than anything from Hayward. Haywards have too many moving parts (at least ten different gear wheels that all have to fit together perfectly), something that always has to be refurbished or replaced (feet, wings, the aforementioned gear wheels, etc), and is a totally poor design. I can't believe I wasted money buying two of these things. The Sand Shark is simpler and a much better design without so many different parts. The Hayward would always get stuck in one corner of the pool, and also had to be set --perfectly-- for the vacuum pressure. Too little pressure and the Hayward would get stuck, too much and it would climb the wall, suck in air, turn on its side and die. I also had to direct a lot of the suction away from the skimmer in order to get just the minimum acceptable amount for the Hayward. The Sand Shark has not gotten stuck one single time, climbs walls right to the water line and then the balance on the top front of it makes it turn around (it has not sucked in air ONCE), and requires less suction to be directed away from the skimmer. I ditched the Hayward after two hours of tearing it down and trying to clean all the parts, and then it getting jammed again within half an hour in the pool. I can rely on the Sand Shark to do a perfect job every time without me constantly having to "help" it, replace worn parts, or other annoyances of the Hayward. Hayward should make a much better quality product for the money. My old Hayward is now an expensive paper weight.

Too expensive to maintain, July 22, 2010
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
After several years of replacing the hoses (which BTW, grow algae like crazy on the outside and $13 each) and shoes, I put $150 to fix the unit, only to have it no better than before. You'd think the pool store would warn people about this. They work great while they work, but due to the expensive plastic parts, they are, in effect, disposable after three years.

Works great for first two years, then not so much, May 29, 2010
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
Be warned: This unit works great for the first couple years but, as some reviewers noted, plan to pay to have it rebuilt come the third year. We run our vac 3 hours a day in the summer and an hour daily in winter months (we have a pool cover that keeps most debris out in winter) so it is disappointing to have to spend $150 or more to have it rebuilt every couple years. We bought our current Pool Vac Ultra in May 2008 and now, in May 2010, we're told it is worn out and needs rebuilding. That's just unacceptable for a unit this expensive that isn't run for long periods of time. There are a lot of moving plastic parts inside that simply aren't durable enough, so we just can't recommend it. We're dumping it and going for a different brand, preferably one with fewer moving parts.

Hayward Ultra, May 6, 2010
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
Great pool cleaner. Parts need to be changed often. However small 3/8" rocks can sometimes wedge itself into the suction turbine and cause the machine to stop moving. Rebuild kit is available to change all the moving parts.

Great experience for 4 years running, March 14, 2010
This review is from: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra 2025CS Automatic Pool Cleaner for Concrete Pools (Lawn & Patio)
My Hayward has been running daily for about 7 hours a day for 4 years. I've had to replace the feet and flappers a couple of times due to expected wear, but this is a simple matter either DIY or at a local Pinch-A-Penny store.
After some unusual situations where debris like rocks have entered the pool, it's seized up inside, but it's not that hard to take it apart and clean. Otherwise I haven't had the same wear & replacement issues other posters have mentioned. (My pool is under screen, so maybe that helps.)
Other than tossing in chemicals, this has reduced pool maintenance to sweeping the side of the pool about once a month or less.
For me, this product's performance has been outstanding.
