1.0 out of 5 stars DIY Wireless Home Alarm System
BUYER BEWARE. This item is neither a DIY nor a true wireless. This is falsified advertising.

All wired alarm systems I have used in the past have full battery back up. This is very important because if the thief shuts off you electricity you still have a fully functional alarm for 2 to 6 hours. In this case the system has a battery back up BUT only for the...

Took a risk with this alarm system w/o knowing much of the seller and the few technical specs provided. Well after receiving and testing a while it has met my expectations...especially for the price.
Some things to note which the seller forgot to mention. It comes w/ 2 horns which is essential for any alarm system (one outdoor for your neighbors to hear and one indoor for yourself). The installation instructions are sparse and seem hand made in a personal computer but it is clear enough so I haven't needed to contact them.
Of all the 30 plus components I received, 1 of the 5 motion detectors wasn't working. I didn't contact the seller to replace it since 4 is more than enough.
Programming the unit took less than an hour. Because all the units are wireless, you will need to replace batteries on everything which will be a real pain. The instructions don't say how long they last. But its better than running wires all over the house.
All in all, its everything I expected to provide a good deterrent from your opportunistic thieves. One of the reviewers here gave it only 1 star since it isn't foolproof. Well what do you expect from a $320 system? Yes, if a thief breaks a window and the alarm sounds, he can start searching the house for the keypad and horns and disable them, but I'm guessing they'd just split instead of taking the chance of getting caught (unless you live in the boondocks where neighbors will not here the alarm). You also get a phone call from the system that the alarms went off, so you can take appropriate action. Yes a pro will be able to disable it but i bet he can disable most of the other alarm systems out there as well...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality, December 16, 2009
By Carmel Beetle (Carmel, ME United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: AAS 600 Wireless Home Security Alarm System Kit DIY (R)
I purchased the AAS-500 system, which appears to be the same as the 600, but with fewer sensors. The installation instructions were perfectly clear. All the door sensors came with the batteries already installed, which was nice. The motion detectors came with the (9v) batteries, and were easily installed. I got this system to replace a 1996 system from Radio Shack which had failed. A major difference with this system (in addition to the much better quality) is that the outside siren can be mounted without worrying about physically connecting it to the console.

Prior to installing sensors I read the entire instruction manual then made a list (map) of what was going to be installed, and where, and numbered each sensor per the instructions. I wrote the numbers on each sensor. I then activated each one and tested them, one by one to make sure everything worked properly. Then, I mounted each sensor per the map I had made. One of the door sensors failed to work. This is when I discovered that the magnet must be placed on the right side of the sensor containing the antenna. I removed the sensor and replaced the backing with one of the extra sensors and mounted it with the antenna pointing down. I should have tested this aspect before actually mounting it and ruining the sticky tape.

The motion detectors have a one page instruction sheet, which really does not need to be read. If you do read it, you will find it pretty choppy; very poor English.

In summary, this is an excellent product, very good quality, good instructions and a major step forward in terms of technology over the system I was previously using.

I purchased the AAS Wireless 600 as a cost effective method of protecting my property without the cost of a monthly charge and to get the components I really wanted. I got enough components to have some spares, should they be necessary in the future. The system arrived in a timely manner and I made a general map of where I wanted the components installed. I laid the system out on the kitchen table and labeled them so that I knew exactly where they were to go. The programming of the controller was extremely easy and the installation was straightforward. The system performs better than I expected and I am more than satisfied with my purchase. I really like the fact that the system will call my cell from the land line in the house and tell me that something has set the system off. The American Alarm System rewards customers for a 4 star or 5 star rating, but I am truly satisfied with system and recommend it to my friends and family. I think it is every bit as good as the expensive systems, without the monthly charge and contracts..

I purchased this product and it is above and beyond it's price! Unbelievable how inexpensive this product is and yet amazingly good! So many features and so easy to install and work with that it makes monitoring my house wonderful. I have looked around for other wireless alarm systems but none is comparable to this one. This one gives 25 door/window elements which is gr8 since I have many doors and windows. Other ones were so expensive. The only thing I would like to see is the small high pitched alarm wireless instead of wired to the control pad, but it does come with a less decibel alarm wireless.
Thank you for a GREAT product. Just don't increase the price any more because I bought this one for 250 2 months ago and raved about it to my friends but they said that the price went up.

I was unsure if I could put this system in our house. It came with good directions on how to program the alarm system, but nothing to tell me what each component did and how and where to put the sensors. But not to worry, with the toll free number, the dealer was most helpful in educating me as how to do everything and make it work. The alarm works great, sometimes we forget to turn it off with the remote and it goes off when the door is opened. "Extremely LOUD". I like the way it lets you hook it up to the phone and it calls you when in alarm condition. No phone call all day, then everything is ok and secure. The sensors and motion detector even work in the storage building I have over 100 feet from the house. By numbering the sensors you know where the alarm is, as it appears on the alarm system panel. This is a good value alarm for the low price. I would recommend it to anyone.

System was simple to set up and works well. Did have a problem with the keypad siren, but the company expediciously send a replacement part to resolve the problem. For the price it appears to be a very good value and a good system. I believe I will be well pleased with it and would recommend it to any do it your selfer.

This is a great security system. It has enough sensors for small homes as well as large ones. It allows you to monitor your home with a microphone while you are away. The sensors pick up the slightest motions. I haven't had any false alarms since installation.

1.0 out of 5 stars DIY Wireless Home Alarm System, December 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AAS 600 Wireless Home Security Alarm System Kit DIY (R)
BUYER BEWARE. This item is neither a DIY nor a true wireless. This is falsified advertising.

All wired alarm systems I have used in the past have full battery back up. This is very important because if the thief shuts off you electricity you still have a fully functional alarm for 2 to 6 hours. In this case the system has a battery back up BUT only for the operation panel. The exterior horn which actually does the alerting of neighborhood in-case-of is a wired unit. That poses two problems. One you need to install an exterior power outlet or use an extension cord (as suggested by seller) and announce to the bugler you have a dummy disable-able system.

Before I go further, I must advise you negative feed backs on this review are being installed by by the seller to further fool you. These people that get paid 50 cents to a dollar can be found on the internet sites that will willingly click anything for a buck. BUYER BEWARE.

Secondly during the break-in your horn is dead. Period. So if you bought this system you are under a false pretend of protection.

This system does not have exterior horn with a battery back up which is essential as a part of wireless system.

The instruction that come with the unit are mostly text. So if you are a DIY you will be running in circles. Also, instructions on individual item boxes are hand written.

The battery in all the units are recommended to be replaced every 8 to 10 months. The seller recommends that they change theirs every 6 months? Also the window units are cumbersome to open and attach only with two face tape. I don't know about you but all my items that I have used two face tapes on have hardly lasted 6 months. Then consider jiggling the unit struggling to open them to replace the battery every 6 months in 25 units.
In other words stick your car remote control with a two face tape and then try to open it to replace the battery.

This is falsely advertised as DIY wireless system. As you see it is not and frankly a useless system.
Its like ordering a Laptop computer and you receive one that has no battery. Period.

BUYER BEWARE. This item is neither a DIY nor a true wireless. This is falsified advertising.

My husband and I had been wanting an alarm system for the house we live in an area where there is a house every two acres and is very lonely. But with the economy we had cut back on a lot of stuff which we couldnt afford a monthly payment for an alarm service. We ordered the AAS 600 Alarm. He was able to install it fairly fast within 1 1/2hrs. I like the fact that it has a horn you can install outside for the neighboors to be alerted. It has the IN HOME feature so you can turn on the alarm while in the house so we can sleep and feel safe. It will call up to 6 of the numbers of your choice if the alarm goes off. I have it set up to call us first and then to a couple of relatives. We are all about 10 min away. We can go and check the house and call the cops if we need to. Any ways we know "one" she says that Burglary Alarms calls are not an emergency and when called they will get there when they get there, you know what I mean. Don't pay for an alarm service if you are able to do it yourself.

The only issue we have right now is the double sided tape on the sensors may not be strong enough so we are figuring out what to use.
