5.0 out of 5 stars Work well with the Foodsaver Freshsaver Unit
I wasn't sure I would buy more bags after initially trying the Freshsaver. I already own the "real" Foodsaver and use it often for freezer storage. But I was looking for something to extend the life of opened packages of cheese, meat, and vegetables in the refrigerator. It does not work as well as the "real" vaccuum packaging, but it does remove enough air to give me a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works well...when the bag works

For everyday use I decided to buy the Foodsaver rechargeable appliance and it's bags and the bags work well...WHEN the bags work. Out of each box I have had several that simply would not maintain a seal even after trying all the hints. I have used the old foodsaver appliance for well over 10 years when I had tons of fruit to put up in the freezer...so I have experience in a similar product.

Since bags are rather pricey...it would be better if the quality control didn't have failures in each box. The majority of the bags have held up to daily use but it sucks to have to lose several bags due to fact they never held the seal. My uses have been primarily for storing my homemade bread...as they extend the days fresh...and better than my bread box with my peasant type breads. Ordinary you would not want to use plastic with homemade breads in such a humid climate but these bags are different. They work well with deli meats and homemade hard cheese. I *thought* when I bought these gallon bags I could use them in the freezer for rolls and pasta...but found out from reading documentation with the bags that these are not for freezer use.

I had a heck of a time trying to get these to work with the meal saver.
It was baffling if the plastic sticker over the vacuum port is supposed to be removed or is part of the port itself.
The booklet does not say anything about it. The bag gives step by step instructions but makes no mention of the sticker.
After calling customer service and waiting through a dozen messages saying "have my product and model number ready", I finally got to talk to a person. Unfortunately, she did not seem aware of the plastic postage stamp sticker on the bags, but told me to remove it before placing the vaccum nozzle on the port. That worked but I had to remove the bag from the counter and hold it while kind of massaging the vaccum nozzle over the port.

After the contents was air tight and the vaccum stopped, I put the bag in the refrigerator only to find that the next time I looked there was air in the bag. The zipper is completely sealed and I've repeated this process a few times, but the bag still lets air in after a few seconds.

I tried another bag and it tore while removing the sticker.
My old hand held unit I bought for about $7.95 had bags with valves that were easy to use and just worked.
Guess I'll stick with that unit and keep extra batteries handy!

They may work, but I got a batch, with quality control from you know where, that were fused at the opening and when you tried to open them the zipper mechanism came unstuck from the bag. That equates a dead bag and the whole box, less one that must have escape the watchful eye of quality control, was useless. WILL NEVER BUY AGAIN!

Not as good as the one from reynolds. Unfortunately can't get bags for that anymore. This was supposed to come with an adapter for containers, it did not.

These bags are not to be used in the freezer or microwave which was not clearly indicated before I purchased them. Of course once they are zipped open they have to be vacuum sealed with the hand held electric sealer again. They do not seem to keep things any fresher than when placed in regular zipper bags. These bags are much less convenient to use than regular zipper bags. For long term storage they may be okay but then the zipper feature is defeated. For long term storage in the freezer or otherwise, regular Food Saver bags are my choice. For short term storage even in the refrigerator, Ziploc brand bags are my choice.

I wasn't sure I would buy more bags after initially trying the Freshsaver. I already own the "real" Foodsaver and use it often for freezer storage. But I was looking for something to extend the life of opened packages of cheese, meat, and vegetables in the refrigerator. It does not work as well as the "real" vaccuum packaging, but it does remove enough air to give me a few more days before something needs to be thrown away. And I can keep re-opening it and closing it throughout the week.

With the price of fresh produce what it is, the cost of the bags is paid for rather quickly, especially if I get a few uses out of them. I have a sort of a system where I use the bag the first time with a dry product that comes out of the bag with little residue. If I am sealing something smelly and kind of moist (like thinly sliced red onions, which I slice once a week and keep for various uses) I grab a used bag because it is going to smell of onions too much to use another time.

That was the long way of saying that I found I missed having them after running out of my sample bags and I re-ordered. I do keep the Freshsaver Unit right out on the countertop plugged in and ready to go. That is the only way to use it- tucked away in a drawer I would never bother to take it out, plug it in and use the bags as intended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs Adapter for use with hose on large FoodSavers, February 23, 2010

This review is from: FoodSaver FSFRBZ0326 1-Gallon Zipper Food-Storage Bags, 22 Count (Kitchen)
The description does not specify that this item needs a hose adapter to work with the countertop versions of Foodsaver. You must purchase a zipper bag/deli container adapter for this to work with a hose. Good luck finding one! I wish this information was noted in the description.

5.0 out of 5 stars FoodSaver Vacuum-sealing Bags, January 30, 2010

These vacuum bags seal the first time and are reusable even after cleaning. A step up from the old Zip Lock vacuum seal system which has been discontinued. Never have had the problem with any bag I've tried to seal being stuck together. The vacuum seal system is great way to stop feeding your garbage can.

These bags work great with bagels. Used to be that they got too hard to eat in a day or two. Have even put a half bagel back in the bag and sealed and kept it just as soft as the day I brought it home.
