The Movie was an explosion of action and special effects! But......
Yesterday, I received my 2 disc edition of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and I looked over the sleeve and it looked nice and got me all excited, reminded me of the G.I. Joe days of when I was a kid watching the cartoon! Then, I later last night put the second disc in to check out the extras! HA that was a joke! The only extras on this 2 disc is the making of the movie,...
REAL AMERICAN HERO............NOT ANYMORE!!!!
Remember the GIJOE you loved in your youth? A real American hero? Forget it! What used to be patriotic is now pathetic. The new international heroes will save us all (yawn)! This movie is only loosely based on the GIJOE I remember, and if you are a hardcore old school fan like I am you will not like this. Transformers was at least true to its roots fun and entertaining. The only extras on this 2 disc is the making of the movie, and the special effects behind the scenes thing. Now granted those were cool, but the only real reason for the second disc is for the digital copy! I honestly think this movie is not worth [...] at all, maybe 16.99! Big deal you get the digital copy! How many of us out there really use the digital copy? Where was the deleted and alternate scenes? Is it really coming to the point where things are going to Blu Ray and not to regular dvd which their are a heck of a lot more dvd player owners then blu ray! I say if you are looking at this review on deciding whether to purchase the 2 disc, wait till it goes cheaper and get it! Don't spend over 10 bucks for it! Thanks for your time I hope this helps!

I had low expectations of the film after hearing some of the many disappointments. But to my surprise, I found it very entertaining. It was a fun and had great martial arts sequences, good action scenes and a nice sense of humor to it. The story line for an action flick kept me attentive as well. The plot moved along well and didn't feel like there were any slow moments. I wasn't comparing it too hard to the original cartoon because it's a different time now and artists can have some creative liberty. It was still fun to see some of the old familiar characters. Great job with Snake Eyes. Overall, good entertainment.

Anymore, this sounds like a perfect mix for a summer blockbuster. Studio executives sitting in the board room...."what is the next steaming pile we can make out of a comic book/video game/toy/existing movie?" Who cares? People are gonna shell out money no matter what it is: Indiana Jones 4, Transformers 2, Wolverine, etc..
Have Voltron and Thundercats been green-lighted for a summer release yet?

Hopefully the next one has more storyline and also hope Marlon Wayans stars in it as well cause he was good and serious(prefer him over Shawn anytime anyday!)

G.I. Joe is an icon I have grown up with. It was very exciting to see it go to the big screen. As a fan of G.I. Joe I have to say great job. Hope to see a sequel.

Okay, let's make things clear: This movie isn't perfect. It's a big bloated explod-a-thon, similar to the Transformers movies. It should have been MUCH better, considering the source material.
That said, it IS pretty good. If you go into it expecting it to be just as good as the movie in your head when you read the comics, you will be disappointed. But, it's far less cheesy than the cartoon, and hits a bunch of little easter eggs for fans of the comic. A few examples: In a flashback, we see Storm Shadow fleeing after 'killing' the Hard Master - except that we don't actually see him make the kill. We just see him running away, and he could easily have been chasing someone.
Another tiny little nod - Breaker steals a piece of double-bubble gum from Duke. It makes no sense in the movie, unless you know that Breaker eats bubble gum in the comic, and they constantly had ads for double-bubble within it's pages.
There are lots of others like that. In fact my one big beef with the movie is their handling of the Baroness at the end, and mainly because it completely violates the established canon. The Baroness is supposed to be evil, without excuses. They make her only evil because she has been 'brainwashed.' Insulting to the character.
Still, for Joe fans, it was certainly worthy of the name, and I hope they make the sequel better still.
