Let's see, for $7 you get more content than almost every other PSN game out there: Adventure mode has 80 levels, Puzzle mode has 100, and Challenge mode has... well, I can't remember right now, but it was a lot! And you've got some of the best multiplayer in a puzzle game since Dr. Mario.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good, but should be cheaper!
This is a good game with a few drawbacks, but compared to other PSN titles you can get more fun for less money.

5.0 out of 5 stars This game is a steal!, December 16, 2009
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

Let's see, for $7 you get more content than almost every other PSN game out there: Adventure mode has 80 levels, Puzzle mode has 100, and Challenge mode has... well, I can't remember right now, but it was a lot! And you've got some of the best multiplayer in a puzzle game since Dr. Mario.

The gist of Critter Crunch is that you feed smaller creatures to larger ones to make them explode (and eat the delicious jewels that come out of them). You can do the usual combo thing with games of this type to get big bonuses, which is essential in the frenetic multiplayer. What makes the game so unique is all of the interesting power-ups and special critters that appear later in the game. The writing is also fantastic and hilarious, and you'll find yourself having a good chuckle the whole time you're playing. The main thing I enjoy about this game is that the adventure and multiplayer modes are fast-paced blast, but you also have the slower, more cerebral puzzle mode to slow things down when you need to relax.

This game is a must-own for all PS3 owners, especially those who enjoy puzzle games!

Critter Crunch is a new puzzle game which is based on the somewhat weird premise of feeding smaller critters to big critters. The game has its own brand of quirky, odd humor, which really fits in well with the artistic style of the game. Everything about Critter Crunch exudes quality. The game looks fantastic, the controls are intuitive and precise, the puzzle aspect is quite deep, there's a huge amount of content, and the online multiplayer is handled well.

There are several different gameplay modes in Critter Crunch (adventure, puzzle, challenge, survival, online) which all use the same core mechanics but have different objectives. The difficulty of the game starts out really easy, and adventure mode gently introduces you to new mechanics, but by the end of each of these modes there are genuinely hard levels. The price of the game makes this a great buy for anyone with even a remotely passing interest in puzzle games.

I love puzzle games. Tetris Attack, Bust-a-Move, Chu Chu Rocket, you name it. After downloading the demo for Critter Crunch, I knew I had to buy the full game after the first level tutorial. Now THIS is how to make a new, memorable puzzle game. Eventhough it's still very new, I can see this one having good staying power and getting a few sequels down the road, provided enough people support the game and actually pay for it. And how can you say no to cute, fat little critters?

Critter Crunch is simple to play, but a heck of a lot of fun to learn everything in and out. You play as Biggs- the tubby lil' guy you see in the picture, and you feed critters to other critters. All of the critters are above you in rows, and it kind of plays like Baku Baku or Super Puzzle Fighter. If there's an insect, you feed it to the appropriate critter, and feed that one to another, etc. After feeding two (or another critter that's been fed once) critters to another, that critter blows up, and takes down like-critters with it. As they blow up, they drop crystals that fill up the meter on the screen, and once that's full, you complete the stage. And provided that the requirements are there, you can get some powerful food bonuses like peppers that burn rows of enemies, watermelon seeds that just plain take out enemies with one shot, and more. And of course, if you get a good combo going, you can vomit a rainbow of fluid into your baby's mouth, earning more points. Trust me, it's charming.

There's your standard adventure mode where you complete all the levels on the map, unlocking other modes along the way. There's actually a good number of stages to complete, and this alone makes the game a steal, even at full price, when you consider that there are more levels than those from the old puzzle games that we'd pay a pretty penny for in the 90s. Puzzle mode challenges you to complete a stage by using a predetermined number of moves. Challenge mode has you sticking to specific goals like clearing critters with a combo of 3 and so on. Then there's the online mode where you can complete levels with a partner (online or on the same console) or compete head to head in VS mode. Finally, there are a couple of trophies you can get in Critter Crunch, none of them being too challenging to get, but they're still fun to try for.

The graphics are beautiful and run smoothly. Sometimes it looks like you're watching a cartoon, and not a cheap flash animation-ish one either like you see a lot of these days. There's no slowdown either, and the sound effects match what's going on perfectly. The music's good too, though I didn't pay attention to it most of the time because the game sucks you in so much that all you can pay attention to is potential combos once you get going.

The fact that this game's only being sold for this much is absurd, but I'm not complaining. It's worth even 5 times the standard price. If you like puzzle games and want something new with great presentation, look no further than Critter Crunch.

The fifth star is for the bargain price. This is a very well done game.

It's simple - a basic formula with added twists gradually added - but a very nice combination of outstanding puzzles and 'platform' style gameplay.

It's what you want from this type of game - addicting - and more, diverse with the puzzles. It's great how they've made those puzzles with less frustration - a few moves to solve but fun to determine them.

The games seem to go from 'easy' the first half to 'too hard' about half way through on some levels - where you can beat the earlier levels by playing them, the later ones seem to rely a lot on luck as you try dozens of times waiting for the right random creatures. Some challenge levels can seen neigh impossible.

One tip: the game looks like when you hit a new level, you have to beat the first three 'normal' games to get to the puzzle and 'challenge' games on the right, but you can just skip over to them - and beat any 3 of the 5 games to get past the 5.

The music and sound effects are average, what you would expect. The 'cute' factor is the type present in so many of these games, too much for my taste but no big deal.

Its great things are the addicting 'action' gameplay and - my favorite - the well done puzzles.

I think it's one of the best PS3 bargains I've seen.

Fantastic game, amazing amount of content, addicting and fun to play. A steal at $7 and has more content than some of the $50 games I've purchased.

You know that feeling when a game just flows? When the controls are just right, every button press feels meaty and crisp, and every interaction you make with the game world just has a certain, well, crunch to it? That's where Critter Crunch starts. Its foundations are just spot-on; everything feels exquisitely polished from the little details of your goofily grinning, fuzzy Biggs character to the subtle animations of strange tropical birds singing in the game's lushly illustrated backgrounds. Even the most elementary of puzzle games would be fun if they started out this good.

But Critter Crunch doesn't stop there. It keeps building on its simple premise -- feed small critters to larger critters until they pop so you can collect their delicious crystals (the game has a hilariously madcap nature-documentary theme that attempts, at various points, to explain the biology of this). First it introduces combos, then exploding critters, then combo-linking critters, on to vegetarian critters and toxic critters, all the time adding new dynamics to the gameplay. The later levels get pretty complex, but they never quite cross the line into frustrating, and your mind will be getting a good workout as you rush to build massive chain-reactions of exploding critters.

And you don't have to rush all the time, either. There are relaxed, no-time-limit brainteaser levels, standard, on-your-toes action levels, and frenetic, I-can't-believe-I-just-did-that challenge levels. There's always a gameplay style for how energetic you're feeling when you sit down to play. And the way the levels are structured, you can play for as long as you want. Switch on the PS3 for five minutes before you go out, or stay up for a late night of crunching away at the online rankings. For such an addictive game, Critter Crunch isn't very demanding on your time -- although the ease of fitting it into your schedule makes it all the easier to let the hours stack up with this brilliant game.

Critter Crunch has to be one of the best DLC i've bought. This game will keep you busy and thinking. The game play is simple. The larger animals eat the smaller animals and so on. As you build combos, you clear the board faster, popping a chain of Critters at one shot. I really haven't found any dislikes for this game. It's less than 400MB on the hard drive and I haven't experienced any lagging or glitches.

I just purchased this game 50% off. It was definitely well worth it. I'd say it's even well worth paying the full price. With several great modes of gameplay and beautiful graphics, this is easily one of the best puzzle-type games I've played. Basically, you feed smaller critters to bigger critters to make them pop. There are all sorts of ways to perform combos, as well as interact with other puzzle pieces. Also, you get to barf rainbows. That alone should be enough motivation to buy this game. With its high level of fun and modest price, it's one of the top PSN games out there.
