I use this projector mainly for watching movies/tv on the "big screen," so it's important for me to have picture quality that compliments this. I spent a lot of time fiddling around with the projector's settings (easily changed by using the included remote), because the unit's provided settings leave something to be desired.

I wanted to post these on Amazon in the hope that it would help others trying to optimize their picture quality. The biggest thing for me was the saturation of the color red. The way the unit comes wired, "red" scenes in movies are ridiculously over-saturated.

Here are my settings for playing non-3d content:

Reference Mode: Movie
Brightness: 48 (the unit seemed way too bright to me. Good for 3d, though)
Contrast: 55
Color Setting: Red - Saturation: 98 Gain: 118
White Intensity: 4
Gamma: 1 (seemed to capture the most background detail)

Also, you have to mute the audio in "audio settings" if you don't want it coming out of the projector itself (which, connected to my home theater, I don't).

As far as the 3d-ready feature... it works great! I've paired the projector with the Viewsonic Vp3d1 Converter Box and they work together beautifully.

Bottom line: great projector, but you definitely have to fiddle around with it to suit your own needs. I hope this was helpful!!

I've had this projector for a week and it is amazing. I spent a lot of time researching projectors that were cheap but still high quality. This projector was $431 after tax and shipping when I bought it on Bestbuy.com and it has done nothing but impress me. Here's a youtube video of what it looks like on our wall without a screen with a 91 inch diagonal image.

I would highly recommend this projector for anyone looking not to spend $1,000 and still get an HD projector.

I have owned this projector for about a year now. I have had many outdoor movie nights and they are always a big hit! The picture is super sharp, especially with native 1080p. Really great for the price. the only drawback is the the 1/8" stereo out is a bit on the weak side. Just make sure you have a decent sized amp or boom box to run it through. For a good while we were shooting it on the side of our house with no screen - the picture was great. Then I bought some white sheets and put them up and wow.. amazing. By the way our screen size is 12' X 8' and still bright and sharp.

I have had this projector for 2 days and I am amazed at the picture quality you get for such a low price. Its not HD of course, if you are looking for HD this is not the projector for you. I am running windows 8 and it allows for all kinds of resolution options far beyond 1024x768. best res setting for this projector IMO 1280x768. for 62'' @16:9. I noticed a few reviews that mention that these PJD series are difficult to set up (due to lacking instructions). these people obviously never had to adjust settings on their television sets before. as with any projector, some initial fine tuning is required, its on screen set up is very self explanatory. took me 15 minutes to get superb picture and that is only because i am a perfectionist, this would probably take even less time for the average joe. colors are brighter and more vibrant than my brand new laptop screen, even in a well lit room! yes the fans make a tiny bit of noise...its a projector, they get hot, they need fans to cool., turn the volume up if it bothers you! i don't even notice. ive always wanted a movie theater in my house, but i could never come up with a grand to make it happen. this thing is well built and parts are reasonably priced. i landed a refurb. for 272.99! well done veiwsonlc!

I don't use this projector that often. When I do, I am still amazed by the quality and brightness of the display. I have seen full 1080P projectors that cost $1500 not look much better. Before I bought iy, I compared various makes and models for 6 months. I definitely made the right choice. It only has one flaw in my opinion: it needs a couple of HDMI and a mini HDMI input so I can plug my tablet computer to it directly. Even with this issue, I am still giving it a 5 star because the picture is just that good!
