5.0 out of 5 stars Get this Ring before any other.
This was the first Ring I ever heard in it's entirety (via radio broadcasts) and it is still the most moving performance of the work I know. Kempe knows how to stir the blood without ever getting pompous or blatant, the main sin of the Solti set. It also has Varnay and Nilsson as extremely involved Bruenhildes (most of a surprise from Nilsson!), granitic Wotans from...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth half a star!
One of the worst 'classical' music recordings I've ever heard, very low signal to noise ratio and there are audience fidgetings (loud coughing and chair creaking) through out the discs. The description here, ' Melodram (Ita) - #10027 / December 15, 1998', might lead you to think it was recorded in 1998 but it was actually recorded in 1960 and clearly not 'ADD'. Another...

This was the first Ring I ever heard in it's entirety (via radio broadcasts) and it is still the most moving performance of the work I know. Kempe knows how to stir the blood without ever getting pompous or blatant, the main sin of the Solti set. It also has Varnay and Nilsson as extremely involved Bruenhildes (most of a surprise from Nilsson!), granitic Wotans from Uhde and Hines, and the most heroic and lovable Siegfried from Hopf. Frick's Hunding and Hagen wipe all others out. I could go on and on, but I'll just say, get this set!

Another disappointment, although admittedly less important, was the flimsy product packaging. It would have been a great improvement to wrap the discs in discarded newspaper and toss them in a plastic sack from the local fish market.
